Manoknok, problem with a layer of elf flesh over black is that it has godawful coverage. Elf flesh is in general quite see through, so you are left with a slightly blotchy look and very dark shadows.
Weetys advice is great there so thats a good way to improve on flesh. Using Tallarn flesh foundation is also a god send. A slightly watered layer of it as a base coat with a heavy wash of mud/ogryn will leave you with a great base to then highlight up to whatever flesh tone you want.
On the subject of sealers, the only thing available in shops around here that I have any amount of trust in is purity seal, by gw sadly. Expensive but rarely leaves a powdery effect. It does however murder any shine or metall on a model, as a it dulls everything it touches.

I will try that next model. Currently I do Tallarn flesh and then wash with a sort of watery brown.
Btw...weety...I think you might like this...I am going to get some at Xmas....for you Squats...

Bob Olley actually did must of the Squats and a lot of the cool miniatures from yesterdecade. I think the Beastmen, Iron Claw, Space Pirates.
I love his miniatures.

The latest offering. He is one of my mercs. The mini is a bit of a mystery. A quick scan of the RT imperial and mercenary sections at solelegends shows up nothing and his tab is completely blank. he was sold to me as a chainsaw warrior. His gun and the general style of the sculpt are blatantly 1980s citadel miniatures.
Anyways - face is washed with a very watered down red wash, armour is ultramarines blue, mask; blood angels red and I made up my own colour for the leather from yellow, skin tone and brown. bit of a greeny brown wash over a grey base for the legs and arms and chainmail over greay followed by several thinck armour washes for the gun. More mercs are on the way and I have an RT techpriest in the post!! which makes me very happy Automatically Appended Next Post: He kinda reminds me of captain america but without the big shield

I like that star is that handpainted? very neat work if it is! i have a version of this mini on my blog , although i converted him to a catachan vet. i think there have being several versions of the chainsaw warrior mini ,from the original sculpt, and they have being sold as space pirates imperial guard and chainsaw warrior respectively. As far as i can tell, probably even more as well, I really like his guns, especially the big ripper autogun type one! He kind of reminds me of an American superhero, with that face mask and red white and blue scheme with stars and stripes, i guess that was the intention.
The red hood and green eyes work extreemley well together!
But if i was to critique i would have liked him in white pants and red gloves , to go the whole nine yards! looking forward to the RT techpriest , i dont think i remeber ever seeing one in the flesh as it were!

A lot of their mass produced stuff is soulless these days but I have seen it converted to good effect. Forge world is pretty damn good though. Far too expensive for my megre pittance.
Thanks for the heads up santobell - still winning it so far.
thats my best ever free-hand star neil101. Others previous have been a bit wonky. Really pleased with that one though! I kind of agree about the white pants and red gloves thing. I am sometimes a bit conservative when it comes to gloves and boots. I always end up thinking they should be brown - but leather doesn't have to be brown. And gloves don't have to be made of leather.

More pretty paintwork as expected, loving the stars & stripes freehand these guys are getting Yeah, you should have gone for the whole Cap America thing, could have strapped a shield to his back
The actual mini looks familiar, have to have a root about and see if I've got one, might be listed under the adventurer range? When I get home I'll have a look through some of the old WD's too.
Definitely not Dark Future manoknok, they were a smaller scale.

Here is the tech priest dude. He is very odd looking and has a strangely wolf shaped head - If he didn't have mechanicus written on his base you might wonder what he is - paint scheme wize I'm going for something red with metalics and blacks. also wipupdate on the scratch build dred - both arms done. all he needs now is some
detail and some kind of back engine thing. Automatically Appended Next Post: he needs bigger feet for a start
Automatically Appended Next Post: the dred not the tech priest

I've always been slightly dubious of that ad mech mini, I have a couple but never got round to painting them as I never really felt they fitted in with anything else I was painting. Well, that plus my laziness
Dread's coming along nicely. For some reason I was expecting the second las-cannon to be mounted above the shoulder, not sure why. What did you use for the bolters, hard to make out, is that 2 of the old bolters?
Not completely convinced by the legs yet, think the upper and lower parts of the leg need to be a bit more even in size, looks a little too orky at the moment to me, but then again, my mind is pretty much entrenched in Orkyness at the moment Good job with the power fist, that looks cool, what sort of powerplant type thing are you thinking for the back?

aha there he is.
I have made a lot of progress in the last half hour- got the green stuff out. the dred is for my SM chapter now. I had to make a decision on what emblem to do and I just couldn't picture how to make a circular cog out of green stuff without a tiny cog shaped cookie cutter! pictures arn't great in this kind of light but I will upload anyways. The twin bolters are from the plastic rogue trader SM kit. power plant is still a mystery and depends very much on what I can find in my tiny bits box. I have some plastic robots that are just the right scale for it so hopefully when I dig em out I will find something good.
The idea behind the dred is that I'm trying to combine my favourite design elements from the original RT dred and the more modern dred. Also I cant aford my own RT dred just now. And this is my first ever scratch build which I hope to learn a lot from

Nice work with the GS there. Actually like the legs more now with the shot from the front, from that earlier shot I was thinking the 'thigh' area was a block like the shoulders. Doesn't mater how big the bits box is if it's got plastic robots in it Robots beat dinosaurs every time in that respect (well, unless you're looking for a non-robotic t-rex head that is).

Hooray for Monkey' on identifying Plunderino!
The Dred is looking good, maybe a little more development in the feet region, but I really like the shape overall, it's kind of scary looking, very intimidating 'face.'

YEah plunderino is a cool name. My plans for the dred are to redo the shoulder scroll and do it better, put some greenstuff in the gaps around the hips and maybe do more to the feet. oh and powerplant for the back - then its painting time!

Hey I have that Shorty model. Never seen him painted before. I am guessing that squat Irn Bounce must be worth a fortune.
With the dred, are you planning anything for its hips? They look a bit weaker than the picture.
Which Beastman did you get? Interested to see how you paint him..

its a helmet but it is weirdly beast shaped and does have horns
everytime they move the clocks I find myself waking up at 4. I have very productive mornings though.
The beastman I got has an autogun and he is holding it pointed up . You have some like him - he is really cool and I will call him fredrick the beastman. Or maybe Derik. I have other beastmen of the spiked club and shield variety but thats ok. A wooden shield, while completly useless for stopping bullets, does give me something fun to paint freehand designs on
Iron bonce is going for about 19.99 but you do sometimes see him cheaper. And that squat pirate I have with the peg leg is currently on offer for 29.99!!

That beastmen is Gaxt...I think he is the rarest for some reason. I have quite a few of the non-40k looking 40k beastmen-the ones with a club and a sword somewhere.

Hahaha well I could but thats not very slaneesh. Great Idea though I would love to see a converted beastman riot squad with metal shields, night sticks and little peaked police caps. specially if they were pig beastmen. Not that I've ever seen a pig beastman, seen owlman, dogman, birdman etc but no pigman yet Automatically Appended Next Post: This is Kylla Condotti. he has a very bright and cheerful paint job, hopefully reflecting my mood at 4 this morning when I woke up and thought I better do something. Note his ribbon things, he must be ex-military
