Calculating Commissar
|
^ The post above me with the German article, its poster needs a medal.
The IG commanderis named Lord General Castor, the SM commander is Apollo, Chaos is the best lord out of the old games, thats right Eliphas is getting another go as a playable character. The Eldar is Autarch Kayleth. The Ork commander is a free booter named Kaptian Bluddfiag. You have no idea how sad I am that it isnt Gorgutz this time. I was hoping to see him again.
(What I could pick out of the article, will edit with more that I find)
Each campaign will have 16 missions.
It lists the old races and the NEW Imperial Guard as having 16 missions EACH.
HOLY FETHING ! IG STILL GET THE BANEBLADE!
Already been said by many other people, but SM get the landraider (Although the article, at least the way I read it, seems to suggest you get to pick one of the three), orks get the battle wagon, nids have the swarmlord, but my german isnt good enough (or good at all for that matter) to translate what the Eldar are getting, although their campaign character looks like a swooping hawk, so maybe its that.
Here are my questions: Why have they been pushing the Inquisition angle down on us FOR MONTHS, THEN switch to IG? What will the IG commanders be? Who is that Inquisitor (Might be female, as the picture shows "boob armor") that we keep seeing, and what role will he/she play? Finally, how are IG going to fit in as a tank heavy force, when the entire theme of DoW2 has been infantry?

Looks like a commissar to me. Wounder if one of the IG commanders is a commissar, or if he gets treated like the librarian and stuck in a support role. Maybe IG will have the option for one of its commanders to transform them into the inquisition?

It's a Commissar. Power sword, bolt pistol, greatcoat, and peaked cap?
It's always a Commissar with that
You know...with how Chaos Rising had a CSM on the cover showcasing the baddies, I wonder if the Ordo Hereticus is going to be the primary adversary for the Blood Ravens?

The "Big hat and cloak" figure in the screenshot is pretty clearly the inquisitor, as it is a brimmed hat rather than a peaked hat.

The attacking multi player option is an Inquisitor, defensive is a Lord General and the support option is the Lord Commissar. Anyone see if they mention who makes it into Last Stand?

You and HBMC are referring to the vaguely outlined figure in the upper left background then.
Hadn't noticed it originally, but there's 3+(at least) Commissars and what looks like a Guard Captain with a tan greatcoat, helmet, and power sword in there too.

Ah yeah, there are quite a few commissars. I'd imagine a basic commissar would be a squad upgrade, much like warlocks for guardian squads.

From Retribution's forums:
From Retribution's forums:
Today, 07:57 AM Just read an article that confirms the Imperial Guard as the new race in retribution.
Some facts:
-imps are defensive once again (heroes can build several types of turrets and cover)
-weak infantry, strong vehicle (baneblade returns yay; basilisk, too which will be strongest arty again; leman russ as tier 3)
-first race to build vehicles in tier 1
-units include stormtrooper, HWTs (now suppress; equivalent to devestators) and catachan devils
-globals include orbital bombardements and unit reinforcements
heroes are:
-Inquisitor (offensive ranged; female witch hunter who can ignite single targets and has flame aoe)
-Lord General (healer; can... well, heal, call all sorts of reinforcements and has a mustache now Oo)
-Lord Commissar (melee supporter; can cloak and has melee specials, much like lictor alpha; regular commissars are also in)
Facts about the campaign:
-story is that ten years after chaos rising the Imperium orders an exterminatus on Aurelius and you have to stop it because there is a terrible secret hidden in the sector
-campaign story is very similar for every race but some details are changed every mission for each race (they wanted to make an own story for each race but ran out of time)
-different enemies each time you replay the campaign (generic; doesn't affect story i guess)
-imp campaign heroes are Castor, Adrastia and Merrick
-playing the campaign is now much more similar to multiplayer: you have a base, you tech for new units and you have to capture requisition points. (right now a regular guards squad is 280 req and 8 pop and they repair stuff)
you can choose if you spend earned xp on the known upgrades (willpower, strebgth) of your heroes or level your other units which increases their general combat performance

(they wanted to make an own story for each race but ran out of time)
So the chief feature of this game - a playable campaign for each race - isn't going to be actually in the game. Instead we get a generic one-size-fits-all campaign with a few cosmetic changes.
Yay...

I am excited. Guard will probable be the new OP race, and the only thing that would make sense to port to Last Stand would be the witch hunter. Honestly, this looks like a lot of fun. Now I cant wait for that beta invite.

Soulstorm added flying units, which ended up just for the most part...hovering there in midair.

Not to mention "Derp you have to start from scratch on every single defense mission"
Boring! I build a base, I want to keep it that way
Although that is probably going to be different this time around. If there are defense missions they'll probably be "defend the strategic building" like in the SM missions.

Except that it is. They changed it from one planet with lots of sectors (and walls to block movement) to three planets and a moon or two with warp gates to block movement. It was a re-skinning. It changed very little because it was just cosmetic.
Kanluwen wrote:Soulstorm added flying units, which ended up just for the most part...hovering there in midair.
Which, other than the Tempest, were all stupid in the way they hovered. It was even worse for the Guard, who's bomber would do a bombing run and then just come to a dead stop at the end!!!

You may be right. I played through a few missions of Soulstorm, and returned it to the store that day.

There is in the way Relic implemented it. The story took a big hit in favour of gimmicky gameplay features (honor guards, wargear, etc), which is a shame considering the rich background of 40k. Only thing that made the DC campaign worth it were the stronghold missions, and the banter between characters that accompanied them. Unfortunately, we were stuck with mostly skirmish missions. So much wasted potential, Relic... I really hope Retribution isn't a repeat but I'm not holding my breath.

To be fair aside from some story missions, most of the missions in DoW2 are just map clearings/mini bosses or defense. The expac just added in good/evil objectives

Not sure why you felt the need to bring that up. I wasn't talking about DoW2's campaign. But we are on the same page as I consider DoW2's campaign one of the worst in the DoW series.

As someone who played through all of the DoW games, I can say with confidence that the missions of DoW2 were much more interesting than the "make blob of guys and sweep across map" that I did for every mission in DoW1. The minibosses got kinda annoying in DoW2, but at least combat was interesting and tactical.
