Right, but looking at those plastic boards it is tough to recommend them over a $5 bit of mdf with some sand stuck to it, such is the level of detail.

there's no way I would ever sit down and cover 6x4 of table with all those little cracks and crevices. If you are volunteering to do it for $5 then please let me know your availability.

I think what he's saying is that the cracked looked to the landscape doesn't offer much more in aesthetics than mdf with sand on it. The urban streets, while not for me did offer something unique that is a little bit rougher to do with a bit of mdf and playground sand. The hellscape looks, too flat. Hell, I would have liked the concept better if it was a cracked dry lake look:

I guess my image of a hellscape is a blighted piece of earth with 'unpredictable' levels of terrain. Crags of ground coming out of the earth, cracked ground, rifts opening, etc...

My point is that the texture looks flat and 1-dimensional. I'd rather spend double or triple the price on a Secret Weapon or GW board that has texture more than 1mm deep, or 1/10th of the price on a DIY board made of MdF and sand.

Yeah, I'm also in the "I like my boards to be flat" group. I do think more random cracking like the lake pic Alfndrate posted would have been cool, but I haaaaaaaaaaaate built-in hills so I am not missing them at all here.

As previously stated, built-in hills are the #1 most disliked feature on ROB tables, with good reason.

@Alfindrate awesome picture!

We are overwhelmed with the reception we have received so far. If you are a retailer and found us here then pm'd us via our FB. This will be for Kickstarter once funded and all orders delivered to our backers we will launch to retail.

Regarding the discussion here. . It's good times. Time allowing we should do videos,. take it to the public and a lot more. We are working around the clock here and enjoying it. There are some things we cannot disclose that We would love to until we have 100% confirmation. Once you do see the Hellscape boards in their entirety there are the most intricately detailed boards done. But we (as in the public) have only seen the teaser pics. There should be a version of it done in two colors. So bear with us.

I think we already stated the great benefits of intricate detail and at the same time miniatures being able to balance on the boards. We do not like bumby/prefixed terrian on our battle boards if you like that there is the ROB and others. I think we need to work hard, do videos, more pics and prepare all this pre kickstarter which we will. It also has to be terrain friendly like this for the things that will be placed on it . Whether we will do an exclusive themed set for the board we cannot confirm! ;P but you heard it here first. But also not there is some awesome terrain already available in the market from some really cool companies. We want GW, GF9 and other terrain on our battle boards without anything restricting where they maybe placed.

Lastly a large portion of us have quite a bit of terrain lying around and we want you to use it on our boards and not be frustrated that you cannot place it exactly where you want.

This for me is a must. I mean how many friends including myself have had a 20 pound miniature or more expensive models than that break, lose and arm, tail or whatever. After spending hours of painting it. Cursing the joints whilst gluing it. Then to see it as G&G put it on a "bumpy" texture only to ruin a miniature because it I had to put it there for a charge maneuver... been there done that. No thank you and so have a lot other mates I know. So I love the respect of my miniatures in their board designs. I just want a cool board. So bloody get the kickstarter going G&G. Gimme some HELL!!

Do you have an ETA, as I had expected it to launch in September? Just curious...

I don't mind a little terrain molded onto my board. I liked GW's board enough to buy one (and then wish I hadn't later). I like how the hills are modular, but the tiles are too big to be useful. Maybe molded hills would work better on a board based on 12" tiles, where the hills would be smaller? Or sold as optional tiles with just 1 hill on the tile, designed to fit with other tiles.. so you if you want some hills, you can throw in a couple of hill tiles, or leave them out if you want a flat landscape

I think the idea is you make/buy terrain to create your own version of hell.. this is just the base/board.

Wow... I hope so! I really like that cracked earth one, it's a good fit for this type of product.

I just don't think that the sort of texture I think they are trying to do on the Hellscape is playing to the strengths of their product (aside from the pentagram thing).
Anything intended to look natural/organic is just going to require a lot of work at the painting stage to pull off convincingly.

Personally I've been holding out for the cracked earth scheme since the first Kickstarter I hope they are included this time.

Maybe too late for me. Other KS have hit I am interested and I am just going to build my own now.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

Isn't the big complaint about GW's ROBB that you can't move the hills?
Now this one is too flat!

Seems you can't please some people...

That would rather depend on whether it's the same people complaining about both things...

@Ritides,

Sorry for the radio silence here. Been crazy busy (which is good) at G&G HQ here.

We are on track to release the KS for the end of this month. Around the 20th -29th. We will have a firm release date next week.

Right now we are sorting the pics and videos for:

Anime Wars Battle Boards: Space Station

ANIMA Batttle Boards: Medieval, Steampunk, fantasy battle board. (City)

We just broke the news here first

Also something else end of this week or sooner..... that will be announced and big for us. Part of the KS and we have kept under wraps. We hope you all will love it!!!!

Best,
The Crew

That is all we can say now. Games & Gears "Psychotic Storm/Panic" Space Station Battle Board "Anime Wars" (art design by Ninja Division). Pics to be released we hope end of the week. We will do a few mobile office pics with miniatures. But the Professional pictures will take a bit longer to publish. ... we never forget the ideas and enthusiasm of the community, even though nearly over a year ago and in the making,

Will there be a simple cracked earth option as per your original kickstarter?

I'm hoping "anime space station" will be perhaps the flight deck of the Prometheus, or maybe the insides of the Daedalus, or the hull of the SDF-1, or perhaps a Zentraedi ship hull.
