I took it to mean that it was for Anima Tactics (the CMON demo board at GenCon looks standard fantasy), based this on the fact that the hellscape board is also likely tied to Heldorado, both of which are done by the Cipher Studios aspect of Ninja Division as SDE and Relic Knights are done by Soda Pop's wing of Ninja Division. I am interested to see the Anime Wars board the most

I am interested to see the Anime Wars board the most
I'm guessing it might be something like cobblestone streets from Anima Tactics' semi-victorian style...
But something more nature-y could be possible.. maybe a Bamboo forest or zen garden style?
Or 1000 Cursed Springs?

I would assume Anime Wars would fit things like Robotech, Infinity, etc... like future-city stuff.

good work guys, you guys must work bloody hard for a turn around like that. You did do it with your brushes. Can't wait!
This is one thing I think many kickstarters miss out on, staggering releases in response to an increase in orders (or stretch goals received). Nice to see some forward thinking.
Are there any pics of the other board types (hellscape in particular) out there, preferrable not on facebook lol?.

Just catching up on the thread here.
Regarding the 3x3 issue, given that these boards are built to allow for overhang, should a 4x4 board work for any table that'd fit a 3x3 anyway? Just mark off 6" per side and there's a 3x3. Hell, it wouldn't even need to be equidistant, you could get some variety playing with different parts marked off. An actual 3x3 would certainly be preferable, but going 4x4 wouldn't exactly require rocket surgery to play on either. My friends and I did it all the time with larger tables set up for Malifaux than were necessary. Gives space for cards, spare models, drinks (if there's actual table beneath, of course), etc.
I have what I feel may be a stupid question, or at least one that has already been answered elsewhere, but I can't recall it being addressed; are the boards pre-painted? I recall some discussion about how the street lines would be set up for varying scales of miniatures, but wanted to double check if this was going to be done at production (with those so inclined adding further/greater detail themselves), or if the boards will arrive as otherwise blank slates in need of some paint and attention?
Also, any eta on the kickstarter, or just a Valve/Blizzard style "Soon(tm)"? :-D

@forar, great post!
Yes you can us Games & Gears 4x4 boards and mark it off for 3x3 play area. Down clubs when we play malifaux all boards are 4x4 and we use terrain or other bits to mark it off.
You can use the Games & Gears trays and put them on the Games & Gears battle boards and create a 3x3 frame. Or use traditional methods as players have done in the past/present.
So yes you can do all you suggested and the above.
Kickstarter is just shy off a few weeks. The only reason why we have not given a specific date yet, is because we need to insure that we are all ready (including ND & Hawk)so we are good to go. Just a few final bits and make sure the KS is super user friendly so everyone can pledge with ease and confidence. We hope to give a specific date for the KS in September Shortly.

Is the issue that the entire board is too flat (i.e. lacking hills) or that the details are not carved deep enough? If it is the former, you may be surprised to find out that one of the most common complaints about the ROB board is the forced hills it has.

I have a ROB, the hills aren't that bad. With how flat those pictures look I'm not seeing much benefit over something like a Zuzzy mat or Warboard.

I think she's talking about how smooth the detail is. Their is no rough texture or anything.
To me the biggest downside is I don't see how you will be able to paint it to look half decent with out a airbrush. Because it's so smooth, it doesn't look like it will take a drybrush well at all.

Yeah, the Rob at least has a bit of a texture to make easy to paint & apply flock. The real issue with the hills on the rob is their smooth sides/inclines which cause things to slide easily. Forgeworld's tiles fix this by having more texture and less of an angle.

At my old gameing club we always fixed the hills by glueing sand or flock to the side of the hills.

What till you see the whole Hellscape Board. First of thank you to all 1050+ Hell Yes's on our FB poll we know some of you have participated so thank you.
Ninja Division and Games & Gears are very proud of Hellscape and immense amount of detail and has a rough sanding texture on it too. Don't forget this is your base. You can add to it. Slap on all the great terrain out there (universally terrian friendly). It is not inflexible and fixed. You want bumps you can add them. But after surveying gaming clubs. They main feature was something that looks super cool and doesn't hinder their terrain collection or models. But at the same time has a hell of a lot of detail.
Also big thank you to a lot of you here on Dakka Dakka . You know who you are. Hope you love it. More to come!!

Absolutely Lockark & Azazelx,
We want every Games & Gears battle board to look unique. You have the base. Whether you add flock, put hills on it. Create a water feature. Or Theme it to your delight! Or keep interchanging terrian it's up to you. There is so much you can do and we have some professional painting studios who want to get their hands on some and do some cool easy tricks everyone else can use!
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also there are some fantastic terrain companies out there. GW have some sweet terrian, GF9, Dwarven Forge and a whole lot more!! that we love out there and also some upcoming ones. We hope these Games & Gears Battle Boards help you create your world and not have an already fixed inflexible battle board to play in, it is really your battle board . This design philosophy we took on board as gamers ourselves and from our peers who play day in day out, who organize from small to crazy large events. Its about pushing/moving your awesome miniatures on some beautifully detailed battle boards.
More pics to come soon
Small shout out to Darkeldarcrone. Thanks for always beating us to the post!!

Guys. Without any snark - pure feedback. The board doesn't look in any way natural. It looks like how you might imagine MDF game board to look. The depth between the "top" and "bottom" layers is 100% consistent, and the corners are all 90 degrees, rather than at a more natural looking variance of uneven angles.
Maybe with a "hot lava" paintjob, it could look good, but I have to say that as presented it looks very average.

Azazelx,
We should have it in two colors! Which we mentioned on the Face Book
page. We just want to show of the detail. But we look forward to a two color tones Battle board to give it more definition . All other battle boards have different colors for more definition.
We are just trying to work our how to reduce the wastage of paint for mass production to add more colors. To keep costs down and enable us to do two colors at least for Hellscape . Other wise it will be one color and we will paint it up to show what you can do with it. But for now we can confirm one base color. The reason for the wastage of paint is due to how intricate the Hellscape details are.... there is a ton of detail.
But this first pics are showcasing the intricate details. Hope that helps. I think the Face Book crew mentioned that. Thanks though for your support and comments!

Hell Hath Come To Earth!
Here is a sneak preview of our Games & Gears base painted Hellscape Battle Boards. This teaser is only one part of a 24" by 24" Hellscape Battle Board.
-Extreme Detail!
-Injenction molded plastic at its best
-Hell Hath Come To Earth.
There are 4 initial unique and highly detailed 24" by 24" Hellscape Battle boards. So 4 intricately, extreme detailed Hellscape designs. With two more designs to be unlocked via our upcoming kickstarter.
We are also looking into if we can give this battle board a second colour. Which would be grey for the rocks. As long as this does not increase the cost by a high margin then we will endeavor to do it!
Games & Gears Base Painted Battle Boards are ready to go playable Gaming boards. However they are made deliberately for those who want to do more hobby love on to them and add more features with custom designs according to your own tastes. But also for the gamer who just want an amazingly detailed battle board and universal terrain friendly. These are it!!
You can also attached Games & Gears Trays. To hold your casualties and gaming card/accessories.
You can also attached a Games & Gears Felt Dice tray, coming soon. Keep rolling those dice on the Games & Gears Felt Dice Tray and just let the miniatures play on the battle field.

I much prefer flat boards. I can't stand gak sticking up all over the place. I have much cooler buildings and ruins that I'd like to place wherever I want.
There's two types of wargames tables...
one type has built in hills and trees and buildings and looks beautiful and cannot be customized in any way, obviously designed for one scenario in mind or a diorama.
the other type is modular. This is most often the type we game with. I can't stand huge pieces of terrain, or the board itself, with inflexible arrangements. These boards look like EXACTLY what I want - a hard plastic modular surface without a bunch of gak built into it, that's nice and flat so I can arrange several dozen other terrain pieces on top of it, with it forming a neat base that is nice and sturdy.

You can always easily add hills to a flat board with terrain. You can't temporarily remove hills from a board with them to make a flat surface.
