So I've been thinking about an army, a floot slogging army, that uses a single, 30 Or Boyz unite footslongging at the front and giving cover saves to every other one behind it. This particular unite will have Mad Dok G attached, for that delicious feel no pain goodness. Now here's my question. I have ample points in the list to upgrade that particular boys unit, entirely with Cybork Bodies, which I can take cause the Mad Doc is there. Aternatively I could make them your standard 'Ard Boyz, though still with FNP.

So I guess the question is, which do you think is the better? Cybork Bodies, 'Eavy Armour, or what?

Cyborked, without 'Eavy Armor, would be the best way to run a unit like this. It is out in the from giving cover to the units behind it, so it'll take the brunt of the low AP templates. That 5++ is better than no save at all. Against small arms, 5++ FnP is still as good as a 3+.

Cybork and a Mad Dok Grotsnik for FNP is fun, but also silly.

I thought so. Thanks for the opinions.

But why is it so silly?

It's about as much to upgrade to Cybork body as it is to just buy another boy. Do you want: 30 cyborks or 55 boyz in 2 units? Attaching the Mad Doc for FNP isn't a bad tactic, but upgrading the unit is pricey.

If it was a unit of Trukk boyz, I can maybe see upgrading them. The smaller numbers means they need more help to stay around, and it's not as many points either.

Mad Doc is only really scary in a unit of meganobz, and downright rude if they are a troops choice..

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

how would being a troops choice help, you would have a good objective holding unit running at random foes, hoping they are standing on an objective themselves. And I hope your idea also includes a transport. *shudders at the idea of meganobz walking around the board* To the op I would go cybork, but its a personal preference and local meta thing.

Its really more of a fluff/theme thing, to be honest. You're probably right that moar boys would be the way to go, but it's not what I want to do. Beside,s this particular unite's suppose to be a shield for much more important unites behind it. Its a bunch of boys with cybork bodies, FNP, and a crazy doctor with a power klaw. It'll draw attention (I hope).

Thank you for your suggestion though.

I ran the 30 slugga cybork + Grotsnik mob in 'ard boyz last year to great success. It's just a huge monkeywrench in your opponent's face. Having more boyz isn't necessarily a good thing because the board gets too crowded in higher points values going horde. Ideally, you never really want more than 3 big mobs on a standard playing board because then you're forced to clump them together to move around cover/deploy, making it so you lose more Orks to blasts etc. Investing in durability starts becoming more optimal.

The reason you want cybork for a grotsnik mob is that things that ignore FNP will also ignore armor, so cybork gives you mitigation where you would have none otherwise. With clever use of cover you can also still get a 4+ cover save against shooting too. This is why grotsnik is a complete waste for meganobz. 2+ armor and 2 wounds each is practically immunity to regular attacks, so adding FNP on top of that helps none against the power weapons or ap 2- weaponry that is getting through their armor.

Culler: I agree with him being bad for meganobz...well when he's attached to them anyway. Outside of 2 inches but within 4 feet he's terrific for them! Which is sorta what I'm banking on (the list is going to be Meganob heavy, along with the Cyboyz, one mob of such being led by the Mad Doc.

I absolutely love this unit and field it any chance I get. I like 'eavy armor because I usually find myself short on points, but I think cybork would be more effective if you can afford it.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

If you're going to do it, cybork or a KFF mek. Mek's cheaper and gives same protection against shooting. FNP is nice, but will be ignored by a lot of blast weapons, so don't expect much.

Cyborking meganobz because he's in your list is a totally different...and totally worth it beast. They become like super killy slow and purposeful terminators with 2 wounds each.
