Hello all Dakka Dakka members ,

I have taken a liking to the idea of the new spearhead games in 40k , form what i understand it seems to be possible to feild an entire army without a troop choice , please correct me if i am wrong here as this is what i am trying to find out.

Also if i was to get into spearhead and say play a game to a set point limit lets say 2500 , would i have to use the Codex points to add up this value of my spearhead or are there other rules.

Please help me with these two questions as i am slightly baffled by the GW explination being only 16 years of age.

Thanks

1) If memory serves the entire force org is optional in spearhead. IF you review the rules for it it shows clearly what is compulsory and what is optional, and from memory the "standard" FOC is entirely optional, the only compulsory is at least 1 spearhead.

2) You use your codex to generate your army list and points as normal. So any vehicles in the spearhead come from your codex, cost the normal amount plust the spearhead cost, etc.

Ok thank you nosferatu1001 this is very helpful to me , thats what i read about the first question and kind of got to grips with it , so thanks for just making that a little eaiser for me

Onto the second question i am glad you have also cleared this up and i am now a lot more familiarised with the concept of how this works , however one last thing you say that the points would come from the Codex but how would i find out about the cost of the spearhead is this in a rule book or something as i have not had a chance to have a look yet.

Thanks for all of the help so far

The spearhead PDFs, containng the actual formations, is available on the GW website. You need to sign up for a login otherwise it doesnt show.

I believe it is on the Astronomicon section, from June. This gives you all the formations and how much you pay in points, in addition to the vehicle / MC costs, and what each formation gives you as a bonus.

Ahh yes i see it says the spearhead type e.g. Skyfall or Tank hunter and so on , the point cost in the top right corner and the special rule that the spearhead obtains. For the Skyfall spearhead which i am most interested in it says POINTS : 45 + Units sorry if this sounds noobish but does this mean 45 point cost for the entire spearhead of 1 - 3 skimmers or 45 point cost for each model in the spearhead.

Once again thank you for the help.

45 points PLUS the cost of the unit.

So if your skimmers cost 300 points in total you have to pay 345 points in total for the spearhead.

And as for being only 16 - dont worry, being 28 doesnt stop me messing up rules from time to time, especially when my memory of 3rd and 4th messes me about....

Hope the Plymouth game scene is good, of fto bristol (sort of near there) this weekend for a campaign weekend (Bristol Vanguard) - have a look out for these type of events, theyre huge amounts of fun

The spearhead FOC has no minimum numbers of units (HQ is 0-2 instead of the normal 1-2) it also specifically says that your army may be your normal force with no additional spearhead formations, a mixture including normal units and spearheads or spearheads alone. The points and rules are the same as in the armies codex + the point value given in the spearhead data sheet. Hope this helps

@ nosferatu1001 , Thanks man , and yes i am trying to get started with these events as you can tell i do not know much about the gaming side of the hobby although i have been Painting and Modelling for 8 Years now , this is why i am trying to get to grips with the Spearhead rules as it seems to be a fun game to play as am not too fond of infantry and prefer tanks , skimmers , gunships and so on Cheers for all of the help.

@ Gorechild Thanks buddy this also does help me with getting to grips with the spearhead rules .

Thanks again everyone.
