I'm brand new to 40k but I've played the RTS DoW II and read alot about the lore. Bought the assault on black reach pack and me and my brother are splitting them. I have my orks all put together and glued to bases, the basics. But I've never painted any figures before and I'm looking for some beginner painting tips. I'm looking to theme them around nurgle colours.

Welcome to dak dakยก Be sure to prime your models with some cheap primer found at either Home Depot or WalMart. Quick Color at HD and Color Place at WM. Just be sure to pay attention to the cap and get the matte cap not the glossy.

Thanks for the help. Quick question, any other paints viable other than the GW paints?

Vallejo and Reaper are the big two that come to mind. Both these companies IMO are better than GW paints as you have a higher pigment count and require less watering down than GW and come in convenient dropper bottles so that way you dont have a dried up clump of paint at the top of the lid. Also they dont seem to dry out like GWs paint as they are notorious for. One thing that GW does have that is good are their foundations and washes.

As a recent 40k newbie myself my best advice is get some GW washes! Painting neatly + 2 coats of wash = a table ready miniature that would not embarass a veteran. I would suggest purchasing the green and devlan brown washes to start.

Primer is $3 for a nice gray at Walmart and other stores (in the US at least). As a few Ork collector I chose gray because it is easy to get nice green coverage for the skin, but it also dark enough to only need one coat of a dark brown or black for pants, etc.

And don't be afraid to do your own color scheme - Orks have tons of clans! I personally am painting every 'squad' of boys with a different colored shirt/tabbard.

And welcome to dakka!
