Subject: Robots' Factory *** Ogre Army, Very Very pic Heavy***
|
 |
Maddening Mutant Boss of Chaos
|
Hello Everyone.
Current projects are as follows:-
1. RT Ork Force, done!
2. Paint an Ogre army
3. Convert and paint 2 Orc Bloodbowl teams
4. Ork army
5. Any commissions I get.
Okay, I had a look through my bits box for somewhere to start, to get back into the swing of modelling I want to start with a basic trooper, and have a bit of a play really.
I found these two mangled bits in one of those Warhammer-remains ebay lots, well I had to clip the body from the Escher legs (no head or arms dunno what happened to this!) and the Elf bottom half was a right off. How I know what you’re thinking, is this some sort of female IP man hating hit squad? Answer no… found some bits had a play
Cleaned up and pinned to fit, not to bad I thought.
I had this idea that I wanted a random looking IP force, linked together by Standard issue boots and gun… Kind of like, “here is your boots and gun…. Go fight please?” I filled the legs down and hollowed out a pair of boots till it made for a good fit.
I’m still a bit undecided; she still looks a bit “leggy”
Anyway, he she is next to a normal guardsman for height comparison.
Next step is to re model her upper half, the head will have to go and the arms need work. At the moment I’m thinking of some sort of gasmask and totally reworking the arms.
Anyway, Lets see what happens… comments always welcome.

Had another bit of a play last night, good to get into the swing of things again
Sorry if some of the photos are a little blurred, just WIP shots though.
I’m sure I have lifted this idea from others, can’t quite remember who but anyway, I can’t take full credit for the shortened Las-Carbine. It didn’t take much drilling and reshaping.
I had a little play with the arms, but after some thought I decided to start afresh and totally removed the old ones. Turns out I have quite good aim with a drill; I managed to put a hole right through the shoulders and out the other side.
Shaping the arms took longer than expected…. But with a bit of measuring I think I got it about right
Anyway, this is where I’m up to now; green stuff is next, Arms head and body all need work!!
Thanks for looking.

Cool project, gaurdsmen shoulder pads would fit nicely eith the standard issue theme. They might help to make the mini less botom heavy.

Really cool. The boots look really big, but i'm sure that when the upper body is all done it'll work fine.

@ Ryan Hyde - Yea I was thinking of some sort of shoulder pads, hopefully with some sort of mask/helmet it took look so bottom heavy!
@ IronSpectre - Thanks! The boot honestly dont look as bad IRL, think its a mixure of bad phones and the boots being a lighter colour...... okay I'm lying they are fairly massive!!

She's looking great, I may have to steal the idea! I don't think the boots look too bad, scale wise. Then again I'm used to goth girls in New Rocks
In the photos (and it may just be the photos) the boot on her right leg looks like it's twisted a bit too far to the right?

She's looking great. I have been waiting to get those slave girls for a while, but I never had such lofty goals for them. The pose is looking perfect, but don't forget to take off her old hand (in the hair). I know she's still very WIP, so I figure you'll be getting to that soon enough.
It's weird how she looks like she's smiling in some pics and angry as hell in others. I can't wait to see more.

Thx guys,
@endtransmission - The photos did make the boot look more crooked but I think maybe your right, I have repostioned it.
@The Good Green - haha I'll try not to forget the Hand!! was easier to snip the arm off at the wrist.
I've had a bit more of a play, Havent made much progress as I got a bit snowed under at work!!
Searching through my bits box I found about 20ishVan Saar gangers, I'm not quite sure why I have that many Van Saars, anyway they are now firmly in my guardsmen plans! I plan to turn the youth gangers in female guards since they are quite a bit smaller (sex change time!).
Anyway... the slave girl to guardman effort. I have removed that loincloth thingy and resculpted the leg (made it look to Eldary), I added some Van Saar-ish knee pads and body "zipper" to tie her in with the other guy I have started. Still very much wip
I have also started to butcher one of the Van saar gangers..... I removed his old weapon and fitted him with a upgraded lascarbine, filed down his feet to give him standard issue boots. Finally I sculpted a prototype face mask and hair.... Reasons why I made it a half mask? err dunno... guess I like sculpting hair... and it will be easier to spot which guards are female??
haha, wow, think my sculpting skills need more practice.....still paint covers all sins haha.
cheers

Ha, just found another 5 Van Saars.... really is mind boggling why I have this many gangers.....
Anyway, I've fleshed out her arms, but it needs further sculpting, so not that much to report. Hoping to test paint these to soon, so fun times ahead!

I’m up to 3 “Guardsmen” …… though I use the term Guards”men” in the loosest sense…. With 1 being a Guardsgirl and one being well….. errr I’ll let the pictures speak for them selves! Haha
I still need to clean up the sculpting on a few so don’t be too harsh
Finished and based the girl and van Saar,
And finished and based the third trooper.
Okay, while not technically human, I thought it would be funny to put an Ork in a space suit! His left arm needs still assorting however.
I’m keeping the Van Saar type armour; I like the all-in-one space suit. Plans are to make 5, then start a Sentinel. I need to smooth out alot of my sculpting, but im sure I'll get there
thanks
Automatically Appended Next Post: Well, I wanted to do some more guardsmen today, but I didnt realise how caked in paint the next lot of van saars were. So they're sitting in a tub of paint stripper. Slow progress!

Well looks like I'm turning to some sort of space misfit/advertures squad.... no idea why, i dont know if its because my next planned models are sitting in paint stripper... or because I was simply bored, but i've started to sculpt a fantasy dwarf in a space suit.
If i was to field a guard army with the odd orc/dwarf/other-life-form trooper would i get much trouble say a tourneys?

exatly what i was thinking lol like the old school gw space adventurers! in a good way ! nice technique you have there using the wire to position the arms. Can i ask what the grey putty is , and is it like greenstuff, hopefully cheaper? and where does every one get this tiny wire comming out backs of heads and back ect from?

The grey stuff is called Pro-create, bascially a cheaper version of green stuff, I bought loads ages ago.
About the wiring, I wanted some sort of tube connecting the suit to the mask, I tried a few ideas but for some reason stuck with this one. A tube runs from the back belt of the space/still suit to the back of the helmet.
Was aiming at an enviromental protective suit.... tho maybe I have been reading too many dune novels.

I will try to get some better photos before the paint goes on

Pretty cool stuff. Her feet look so much better since you've added knee pads.

@ PDH - Thanks, her boots maybe are a little big, I'm just hoping its my bad photo skills making them look out of place.
-------
Okay, I went crazy and actually picked up a paint brush for the first time in maybe a year. I've been trying to come up with a colour scheme for these guys.
I want to keep them fairly neutral coloured, I did have issues with the las gun, its been 3 different colours, I had it dark grey- this made the model quite plain... then it was purple which looked odd.... lastly green, I'm leaving it for a bit to see if it grows on me.
thanks

I've been out of the war games scene for a while, but hopefully I want to start up again.... I was wondering.
In official tournaments how strict are they on counts as? I ask this mainly because of my colourful guard make up and I’m messing about with a walker griffon tank… as long as its all GW parts are they good to allow it?

Great stuff!
These look really cool, the "boots and a gun" concept seems to have worked.
As for your question about counts-as I´ve found that the rule of cool mostly applies. If your stuff looks cool and isn´t built to break game balance, it´s fine.
And from what you´ve shown us so far, I think you´ll be fine!

i like your ideas and your overall colorscheme. i think you created yourself a truly fun squad. will you do more to fill the ranks of a complete army?
i have one thing to say as for critizism: i dont think your green weapons work. if your not done yet with them than i wont say nothing^^ but the green is a bit ripping the attention from the rest of the model. i like the color on the pipes of your masks soand on the masks itself too, there the color works pretty well. it´s just that green weapons complete is not down my ally. and since your models look more muted overall i would give the guns a more muted color, less the idea starts they look like space marines and this would be tragic as your models are way cooler then the avarege sm.
sorry if i was a bit harsh, but besides the guns i truly love your work.
