Hello, I am starting this thread to motivate me to continue on my recent return to painting and modeling. Also I would love to get input on my different models.

This is a Karsikin Sgt. that I am making for a future Ordo Xenos/Deathwatch force.





I haven't painted up his base yet but the model is pretty much done, I fear that there is to much black however and would like some tips on how to add some color to him.

These are two guardsmen that I am trying to work a color scheme up on. They will eventually be part of the Orodo Xenos/Deathwatch force as well.
I heavily washed the one on the left with Regal Blue and didn't wash the one on the right with anything. I am leaning toward the one on the left but would like input.




And last but not least is my ever ignored Chaos Marine force. These are two WIP Thousand Sons. I am quite proud of the GS bases. I was never very good with that stuff.



I would love any CC I can get on all of these minis, I will be trying to post updates to this thread once a week.

I think he looks great. Just add some fluff to the color scheme to sell it. You said its a kill team so maybe they specialize on urban or night missions hence the dark colors. Coming up with the fluff can also help you decide how you would like to do the base. So far i'm liking it.

I have amassed roughly 200 pages of fluff for the DIY Marine Chapter, IG and 2 Inquisitors that are on this planet.

The basic jist of the IG is that they are a deep hive patrol force. The planet they inhabit, Radnar, is infested with genestealers. Thanks for the opinions. I appreciate it.

If there's too much black, then just have the boots in leather, or some armour plates in grey, or highlight the edges like you did on the hellpistol, with a "real" colour... Also, the freehand Inq. symbol is great!

As for the 1k Sons, the bas is nice indeed, but having glued them up will make them a torture to paint!

As for the guardsmen, I prefer the blue-washed guy... Are the finished? You should highlight a bit more the black armour to make the details stand out some more...

The lenses turn out well!

For their camo you should either densify the black&white dots, or forget them : as few as they are now, they seem more like mishaps & brush strokes than camo points... But that's what I can see from here, maybe that's better IRL...

Thanks for all the tips! No the guardsmen are not done, just thier pants. Vacation next week, hopefully lots of progress.

Nice work on the cobbles MADLarkin. Just did something similar myself for the first time... believe me, you're doing just fine!

I have been on vacation this week and managed to get a paint scheme pounded out for my Thousand Sons.



Would love comments on it, I hate yellow so I decided to use orange instead.

Also got some work done on the Guardsmen that will feature in my Ordo Xenos force. Should I stamp the Inquisition symbol on thier guns or not?

Nice work. I do like the greenstuff bases on the thousand suns, and the sons themselves are nice too.
On the guardsmen, I think the flat black on the armour plates could really use some outlining or something - just looks too flat right now. The guns are nice with the red outlining to give them some depth. The armour, particularly the chest, could really use something similar.

Hopefully I will have new pics up tonight. I have really changed the guardsmen up.

Nice. I like the greenstuffed bases on the 'Sons. But I am not too fond about the red highlights on the guards guns. The red looks a bit...Off(ish)...and it doesn't fit in with the rest of the model. But, hey, that's only my opinion.

and oh I like the shoulder pad on that stormtrooper sergeant.

Yay for long stretches of time between updates!!!!

To start off with here are my VERY WIP LOTR Dwarves.






I have green stuffed a back pack on them, they are a traveling band of dwarves. They all have their base colors pretty much done, not a whole lot more.

On the my Storm Hawk Space Marines! Here is a WIP Terminator Squad.






I still have to finish painting the Sgt. They will have the same style of painted cobbles as the rest of my Storm hawks have. (see below)


I dusted off my old dreadnought that I painted for fun quite a few years ago. It is going to be repainted into a Storm Hawks Dreadnought.





On to my Ordo Xenos Guard force. I was inspired by DoubleT's DCoK troopers. They are simply amazing.
So I attempted to muck up my guardsmen a little.






Please let me know what you think, I would love any and all tips for my painting/modeling.

p.s. no progress on the Thousand Sons, don't worry, thier used to it. :(

Just my opinion here but lose the red! It really takes away from the models. The outline has no common or highlight color leaving only high contrast and head scratching. Again just my opinion.

Looks nice, I like the dwarves. good job on the rest too.

I really need to start my IG army, something about the overly dramatic look of having the lens reflection really bright against a dark helmet looks fantastic!

I won't disagree with you. Here is my conundrum. According to my fluff, these guardsmen are taken from a PDF force on Radnar, and temporarily pressed into serives with the Inqusition, I am looking for a way to make them more Inquisitoryyyy, while still making them look like they came from a regular IG regiment. I thought that pretending like they were given new guns and and marking on their shoulder pad by the inquistion would work. I don't think that it does. Also I was trying to get away from the blue that I love for a change. LOL.

I think it would help if the Lasguns for the Stormtroopers were painted a solid red, then given a dark wash, maybe Baal Red or Badab Black. Right now I can't tell what color they are intended to be. To make them look more valuable - as if they came from the Inquisition, or other elite force - you could paint the eagles on the Lasguns gold.

I like how you did the dirt on the Guardsmen. To make them better with only a little bit of work, you should take a sharp knife and remove the mould lines. That would make them look more impressive.

thanks for the input! Next time I paint I will try painting the guns soild Red and washing them down w/some choas black.

Also all the eagles on the guardsmen have been filed off. I never liked the eagle on regular guardsmen. I save it for storm troopers and HQ.

How embarrasing for you to notice the mould lines. I am ashamed.

Here is a much belated update, Assasins Creed 2 has been eating what little time I have up. I have only completed on model and done a pitiful amount of work on my dwarves.

Onto my Imperial Guard force. These represent a Ordo Xenos drafted force. After many suggestions to dump the red on the guns I gave in. I painted the shoulder pad red with
the chalice image which is used by the Radnar branch of the Ordo Xenos.

Thats a lot of nice work. I particularly like the Dreadnoughts reference to where it is normally kept Dreadnought Brother Iron Mountain and the venerable Thunderhawk U-Haul up next?

I rather like the weathering on the infantry. Just enough to look grimy without obscuring the underlying scheme. I also particularly like how the inquisition seal has been kept clean and gleaming. Shows a bit of pride.
