Hello All,
A little about me (us?). 2 years ago my oldest son brought home a copy of Battle for Skull Pass, a gift from his grandfather. We pulled the little guys out and played a couple of games. However, it just didn't click with either of us.
I played Battletech a *long* time ago, so I was interested to see what
40k was about. We went back to the store and grabbed a box of
AoBR; along with some paint. The rules seemed to flow a bit better (e.g. no "wheeling" around..)
But, I just don't like Orks and he claimed the Space Marines. Also, much to my wallets consternation, my other 2 boys wanted in on the deal as well.
Next thing I know we have somehow acquired about 1500 pts of Marines (Salamanders), another 1500 or so of Chaos Marines (Black legion), and about 1700 or so of Necrons (my favorite.. the rules are simple). My youngest (he's six), being a blood thirsty little warmonger, decided Tyranids were his thing. "Dad, you mean they
eat the others? Awesome!" 1600 pts later, he's munching to his hearts content.
Pretty much all of our games are at home. We take over the kitchen table for nice 4 way games (6k pts on the table) for several hours on a Sunday afternoon. Every so often I think they feel bad and let me win. Which really doesn't matter because I'm having fun hanging out with them.. but don't tell them I said that.

We're still learning all of the rules which, keeping 4 codexes straight is sometimes very challenging.
The younger two came up with a couple of quick and fast rules for when they decide to play each other. All to-hits and to-wounds are on 3's. All saves are 4's. The game size is determined by the number of wounds each character has and EVERYONE moves 6" and shoots 18". This tends to favor dice roll luck, with a little bit of strategy.
Oh, yeah, my wife wants another baby... And I'm thinking that the Dark Eldar are looking pretty good. We might be able to work something out.
