The ruins of the Palace of Thorns

I love the Ork Codex, honestly. I don't think it needs improving, or fixing, or anything like that. I do feel, however, that two units are pointless.

1) Tankbustas, in comparison to Lootas, have almost nothing to recommend them. Tankbustas can just about glance a Land Raider, whereas Lootas can't even do that, but frankly, other than that volume of fire will make Lootas better at dealing with vehicles than Tankbustas. My suggestion is a simple one. Inspired by Eldar Fire Dragons, give the Nob another line on his options:

The Nob may select the Tankbusta special rule: +30 points

Tankbustas The Nob has versed his squad well in the art of stalking armoured vehicles, able to spot weak points in the armour with uncanny accuracy. The Nob and his squad have the Tank Hunter USR.

I figure it is 15 points for Fire Dragons, so 30 points must be quite fair for Tankbustas, despite the fact it is a real step up for Orks. This would enable a glance on a Land Raider to get a kill, if it were very lucky. I figure out of 15 Tankbustas (225 points) shooting at a Land Raider, 5 will hit, 0.83 will glance, 0.14 will cause a wreck. Basically, in six turns of firing, a full squad SHOULD destroy a Land Raider. That does not seem too stupid.

2) Flash Gitz. Frankly, they are not even the best at the thing they are supposed to do. I propose the addition of the following line...

If the unit selects More Dakka, Shootier AND Blastas, they also gain the Ave Summa Dat special rule.

Ave Summa Dat These Flash Gitz love their Snazzgunz so much, they prefer shooting them even to the joys of a good scrap. To represent this, they gain the Hit and Run USR, enabling them to disengage from combat on a successful Init check. This will allow them to fire their Snazzgunz again before charging back into combat.

Frankly, the idea of paying 40 points for fully upgraded Flash Gitz is so ludicrous that I don't see any reason to charge points for this. The fact that they have none of the other benefits Nobz have, no acccess to dedicated transports and a crap upgrade character mean they need something!

I don't think either of these changes would break the Ork codex, but I think they would make two massively underused units viable.

Any comments?

I have to agree with you, the only reason I can ever see anybody having Flash Gitz is for the fun of converting them. Its a shame they suck and that Badrukk is so crap because his model is brilliant.

Well as tank hunters is really only +1 pen, it would mean that Tankbustas will be totting around assault lascannons...GREAT!

Drop glory hogs, add this, done.

Getting one of the upgrades for free would go a long way to making Flash Gitz way scarier.

Personally, I liked them better when they were elites and functioned like powered-up shoota boyz--more numerous, less tough, and less of an investment.

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?

Well, the other thought I had for Flash Gitz was "buy-two-upgrades-get-one-free" but even that did not make them in any way unique. I thought this was nicer, and with Init 3, they won't even manage it very often, but it is an interesting tweak, at least. It would also allow them to disengage one target and engage a different one, so it brings a slightly new tactical element into how to use them.

How about for either of them (maybe even lootas but that'd be a bit cheesy!)

I like the flavour of that, but the twin-linked part is probably too powerful.

I think the idea behind this it good, but Tankbustas would still not be a viable unit to me. Their guns just don't have enough range and to get that close they will be torn to shreds. For flash gits what I would do is put each upgrade down to 2 to 3 points each. That way its way less points pert model and they are pretty scary. Also maybe making their eye-targetter thingies give them +1 bs.

I think that we need to define what Lootas, Tankbustas, and Flash Gitz are good at as they are the three Shooty Ork choices.

1) Lootas are long range, mid str. Good at light vehicles or MCs

2) Tank Bustas are short range and should crush tanks, but not hurt infantry,

3) Flash Gitz are mid range and anti-Infantry/tons of shots. (this is a change from them being shooty Nobs, you can make shooty Nobs if you want to)
They all start with the basic Ork boy profile.

Lootas are fine as is, if anything they should be more points considering how much they are spammed, but whatever.

Tank bustas should have Busta Rokkits and tank busta bombs, no tankhunters or glory hogs.
-Busta Rokkits=The tank busta replaced the normal rokkit warhead with a tank busta bomb. The magnetic clamp helps steer the rokkit into tanks.
R18" S6 AP6 A1-against any target with an AV value it counts a twin linked and rolls 2d6 for armor penetration.
-Nob cannot take a PK, but can take a tank hammer. S10, +1 on the damage table, 2 handed.

15 pts each, 10 for a Nob, 10 for a Tank Hammer.

(they have weapons that can hurt any tank, but are not effective against infantry. You want to shoot tanks, but are not forced to. Same for the nob, he gets anti-tank wargear but not the anti-infantry PK)

Flash Gitz should have hard armor and snazzguns. R24" S4 AP6 A4 Rending.
-Nob has a target squig (targeter), can take a PK and one other gun, Either a snazzgun with combi-schorcha, a mega-snazzgun, or da kustom laza.
-Mega Snazzgun R24" S5 AP5 A6 rending.
-Da Kustom Laza R24" S6 AP2 A3.

15 pts each. 10 for Nob, 5 for combi, 10 for other guns.

(Low Strength and a lot of shots plus rending makes them have good and consistent anti-infantry power. Then you can take some shooty wargear for the Nob to enhance the squad against whatever kind of target)

Flahgitz aren't anti small infantry though... never have been. They've been anti heavy infantry and thus why they get the ap low....

Having three shots is about the same as having ap3. Then you add in the bonus from rending as well and you have a unit that can throw out a ton of wounds to pile on the saves and et a few rends in order to punch through the armor a bit as well. The big change was making them boyz again and not Nobs statwise

But then they lose flavor. It'd be a loss of character. Improve the unit, but keep Glory Hogs.
