So Dakka I have seen people complain about GW, cost, rules, cheaters, BO, bad manners, paint schemes, WAAC, lashs, Necrons, Tyranids, any army they can't beat and people called mohammed.
I have had enough of complaining and I am sure you all have as well.

So Dakka what I want from you is your most treasured game memory, one that got you excited and really into the hobby mood, maybe you even felt at one with lady luck.
It could of been a tournament wining moment, it could of been luck and it could of just been the look on your opponents face when it happened, but I want to know what it was and why.

Mine was back when I was 16 (5 years ago) I was having my second game ever against a random in GW who thought they would just smash me into the ground because I was new.
I played DE and he played Vanilla Ultramarines and it had Land raiders and Predators. It looked quite scary in all honesty, Apparently he was 'good' with them they told me.

But the best moment I ever had, was during this game. I was slowly losing then his terminators appeared in front of me, bit scary terminators - I lost all hope.
So there they where standing about a nose hair away from my 'Puny wyches", they opened fire, they all missed, he charged me and dammit man I whimpered.
So hits, no wounds no nothing. My puny wyches hit back, wound and they all fair saves, 4 terminators die. 1 Is left standing unharmed and probably bewildered.

The smile on my face could of been seen from the moon I tell you. His smile? No so much...
I still lost that game in all honesty but it was very close from then on and the defeat did not feel so bad.

So Dakka! Tell me of your encounters!

(Is the dramatic text helping?)

Playing against one of my friends at the gaming club, he plays two autarch, reserve Eldar or tyranids and I generally play wolves or guard, we always seem to go at least six tuns in our games and it always comes down to the last turn who wins or whether it is a draw. The games are always fun, challenging and played in the best spirit. We always play the rule if it would happen in a movie do it in the game so for example Ragnar Blackmane always charges the hardest thing on the table even if he should have charged that unit of jetbikes. It always a pleasure to play these games and they are so full of favourite bits that to pick one out would be a disservice to all the other occasions.

I quite like the cinematic moments you can get when playing a game of 40k,

like on one occasion, I was fielding my entire CSM collection against acouple of my friends IG and Grey Knight armies and my marines just SWEPT through the city board we built, until all that was left was a single IG platoon and the Grey Knight terminators defending a single bastion and surrounding aegis defence line. It was so dramatic we decided to carry on the game till we see hwo won, so after 56 marines charged the line, they were beaten back again and again, acouple of squads fleeing away, until my Daemon Prince came down and promptly smashed a hole in the line and the rest poured in and won.

Best end of turn 11 ever.

Taking down a 2k High elf army with just Archaon on foot, after in the first turn he had miscast and blew up his entire army + mount.

It got very funny when he was half way across the board on foot and the opponent realised the chances of actually hurting him were near 0. Fantastic mental image of him slogging across the terrain towards a terrified high elf army, arrows and bolts literally bouncing off him.

One that comes to mind for me was against IG with my Orks. IG got first turn and demolished my transports and all my units were all but gone next turn. Aside from Ghazghkull and five Meganobz, they foot slogged into some cover and slowly pressed forward. Then the fun began, all the IG were in one corner pretty much, then Snikrot and 10 Kommandos ambushed the lot of them. Ghazghkull made it over and plowed through the entire army until he came face to face with Snikrot on the other side. All that survived the game were those two units and two IG tanks that were out of reach. It was a tie in the end.

One of the most satisfying and destructive turn arounds I have ever pulled off.

next turn he tries again but he fails the test and loses all his wounds to the power.

From my first ever game - Last Edition Fantasy - Lizardmen VS Ogres

My whole force is wiped out, barring a single 8-man Cold one squad. The Ogre player had much of his army left.

The Ogre player decides to charge my Cold Ones with what I seem to remember being a fat blob of bulls and a Hero. He procedes to take down all of the Lizards, baring the Champion. I then somehow fight back, making the Ogres flee, and then running them down.

I lost the game in the end, but I felt very proud of my Lizards.

Also, I once played a mini game against some sweets at my GW at some event. With my Cold Ones again, I took down the staff members Hungry Hippos and a large number of Gummy Bears. That was fun too.

Over this past summer, I was playing against a friend I lost a single terminator in one game. We named him George and gave him a story line about Vulkan He'Stan going to visit "George's" widow:
"Hello Mrs. George. I have good news and bad news. The good news is we won our encounter against the dark angels with ease. We only lost one man!"
"Who was it Mr. He'Stan? And why isn't George here to greet me?"
"Yea....about that one man..." Vulkan rubs his palm against the back of his neck and looks away sheepishly. "My bad."

edit-- Mind you, it wasn't the overall massacre that I loved: it was the story that we created afterward and had a great laugh over.

I was playing a 3000 point Apocalypse game with my friend, him using BA and IG, me using my entire CSM collection- minus Lord One-Arm (the nickname for my now broken Abaddon the Despoiler). Anyways, I was really sure I had him, with my fielding SEVEN chaos lords. (I play 3rd edition CSM, found the codex and started using it.) Technically 8-one was a sorcerer lord. Anyways, I get completely lascannon spammed. I fail every invulnerable save. Turn two of the game and I am down from 7 chaos lords to 2. One of the deceased was a daemon prince. We were laughing our @$$es off.

I was playing a 3000 point army game and I fielded two armies worth of my renegade space wolves, one part mech and the other loganwing in drop pods and I was against two tyranid players and an eldar.

First off, I had 4 drop pods land in the tyranid/eldar army and JotWW everything they saw, I took down three carnifexs and after all of their squads died valiantly, they all charged different tyrannofexes and held them there all game. Then a squad of five wolf scouts managed to rout edrad's bodyguard of dark reapers in a sweeping advance.
Whilst Logan and Ragnar were off killing everything in sight, the termies of the loganwing trickled in and by the fifth turn they were all on the board. This was a massive apocalypse event and there were rules for certain tables effecting other tables, and one rule was a nuclear weapon which was D strength and forced two re rolls for successful invuln saves. This was (of course) landed right on top of them, and all but one of the terminators died. and of course it happened to be my favorite model I have ever made

My favourite memory was during a small game where a unit of 10 chaos space marines brought rapid fire death to my 8 man berserker unit, reducing them to 4 men. In the assault phase, the berserkers got the charge and managed to wipe out the entire enemy unit. Talk about a turn around.

I was in a combat patrol tournament and was competing for second place. I was facing a SM player and the only units on the field were my warboss and his lone tac squad of 5 men who he had hidden in a 2 story building. We had agreed that each level of the building was 6" and my warboss had just consolidated to the base of the building. He fired and missed everyshot. I move up to the second level and decided that i would try to run to the Third and last level. I rolled and by the grace of gork (or possably mork) I got a 6 and he climbed his way to the third story. At this point they were about 5" away and he was about to start his turn when i realized that i had not used my Waaagh! yet! I yelled waaagh! and assaulted. He went first and to my amazement and excitement he missed every hit (I was especially happy because he only had one wound left on him). Now the warboss rolled and got 1 5 and the rest were 6s. i jumped for joy as i rolled to wound with my S10 powerklaw and took second place because my warboss with only 1 wound left klimbed a building at lightning speed, assualted the marines, deflected thier attacks, and wiped them all out with a single swing of his powerklaw. best tourney ever.

Probably some of my low points games with my tau vs an eldar player. Somehow my one HQ suit managed to repeatedly get a kill count that would make a counter strike player happy.
The guy sold his eldar soon after for nids.
Then sold his nid. Now I think he's doing live action role-play.

However, the single best moment was the following, and I doubt anyone will believe me:

Tau crisis suit HQ with bodyguards plus 2 shield drones in melee combat with a full squad of hormaguants and half a squad.
They inflict 15 wounds total, and I make EVERY SINGLE ARMOR SAVE.
I then proceed to deal a few wounds, and due to them not being in synapse range they route and I cut them all down.
For the greater good.

I was running a five dread list at the time, and all five dreads were destroyed on turn one by a Marine force, leaving only four mid-sized squads of boyz. I managed to tie by grabbing the enemy's objectives and literally just blocking him from getting to any of mine through sheer mass of boyz... and succeeding in an absolutely hilarious number of Death Or Glory rolls.
