My girlfriend is considering buying one of the Eldar Tanks but is unsure of which one to get. Out of the Falcon, Fire Prism, and Vyper, which is the best to get for a starting army (around 750 pts so far)

This doesn't belong in the army list forum, but either a falcon or fire prism would be what you would want. Probably a falcon. Vypers aren't really that good and are a jetbike moreso than a tank. Falcons give you a S8 AP2 Heavy 2 weapon and another of your choice and the ability to transport 6 guys. Prisms have a cannon that can fire 60" at S5 AP4 large blast or S9 AP2 small blast, but cannot transport troops. Vypers carry one heavy weapon and have much weaker armor and obviously cannot transport troops, not to mention they're overpriced imo.

*edit* oops yeah thanks lliadon. I always forget if it's S5 or S6 and idk where the 72" came from... probably cause I played against Tau this weekend!

it depends on what your wanting to do...

the falcon can hold upto 6 models and can buy holo fields which can decrease the chance of the falcon getting destroyed. this is good if you decide that you have a unit of 6 or less that needs to be highly protected until the unit can perform its task. most people toss in a unit of 5 dire avengers and just zoom around until the end of the game and then zoom to an objective to claim it. others also use a unit of fire dragons to run around popping tanks. which ever way you go will determine your weapon choices, which are commonly scatter lasers for anti infantry and light armor or a bright lance for armor popping. but just remember it is only bs3 so you will hit about half the time if you decide to shoot

vipers...a fast attack choice. these are rarely taken...this is mainly because its armor 10, open topped, and bs3. yes it can have upgrades to make it harder to destroy, but in the long run they are not worth it. to get any use out of it, its best to give it shurican cannons or scatter laser. this is done to make sure you at least hit more due to having more shots.

and finally the fire prism. this is the jewel of our heavy support choices...but only in multiples. at 115 pts you get a good deal...it has 2 modes of fire. a focused shot which is s9 ap2 small blast. and a dispersed shot which is s5 ap 4 large blast. both with a range of 60". now comes the fun part...linking prism cannons. when you link prism cannons you add 1 to the strength of the shot and lower your ap by 1...so with 2 prisms you can have a s10 ap1 small blast or a s6 ap3 large blast that is twin linked for both. add on the usual upgrades and you have an eldar "swiss" army knife being able to take on hordes, 2+ armor units, and any form of tank...and pretty much anything else not mentioned

so overall id say go for a fire prism with a falcon coming in 2nd

oh and coldfire...i think you need to take a look at the prisms stats again...lol, i forget at times also

if you are looking to purchase an eldar tank, you will by far get the most use out of Wave Serpents. Most of Eldar's best but ever so squishy units need a ride to be truly effective (fire dragons, banshees, storm guardians, dire avengers) and wave serpents are one of the best transports for getting infantry to where they need to be and doing it quickly.

If its a heavier tank you're looking for, the Fire Prism is probably the best of the 3 you listed, however you really need a pair to take advantage of the combining beams options available to them.

Falcons can, but they kinda need a 5 man dire avenger squad inside them, and a farseer with guide to twin link it and park it on an objective in cover. It may be expensive, but a scoring unit with holo fields and possibly a cover save, with 3 tl s8 guns can really scare opponents, and draw fire away from more vulnerable tanks.

Vypers are better in a supporting role in larger lists where there are more pressing issues. They are fairly cheap, and move really fast with decent fire power, making them a solid addition to an already fully mech force, however most people tend to avoid them for other things.

A basic army should have at least 2 (normally 4+) wave serpents, at 750 points you may be able to squeeze 2 in to a decent list. After wave serpents, Prisms are the next best.

Well, I'm pretty sure you can make a Falcon with the Fireprism box, and getting just the prism bit is a bit troublesome if you bought the falcon and wanted to upgrade. So, moral of the story, don't by the falcon box if you can help it.

I have to agree with everyone though, the Waveserpent is probably the way to go, and you'll need a ton of them. They're all good depending on need really.
