So, my buddies and I have been discussing it, but we are all noobs, so I thought I'd ask the awesome people of Dakka.

We are all Chaos noobs, and were curious what the different Chaos Gods do for the armies. More specifically, how aligning affects a Chas Marine force.

We've figured (maybe?) that Khorne makes them pretty CC oriented, please correct me if I'm wrong. The main question is then, what do the other Gods do? As funny as it is, we each have interest in one of the other three for potential armies later.

Kingdom Death Fanatic. Dark Eldar: Kabal of the Fragile Breath. Dark Elves: Allegiance to the Black Crown. Also, Masons, Cygnar, and Legion of Everblight. All unnamed.

Holy gak that is an awesome username. Please tell me your army is called Kabal of the Fragile Breath. Morathi's Darkest Sin has some competition here for best handle, I think.

Chaos Daemons or Chaos Space Marines? I assume you don't have the codex and are asking very broad questions.

Khorne makes for frightening melee units.

Nurgle makes you more durable against small arms.

Tzeentch makes you more durable against low AP weapons.

Slaanesh is a weird middle ground. It increases your Initiative, making you better in close combat, and Noise Marines (the dedicated Slaaneshi troops) take very power guns.

Khorne - +1 attack in hand to hand

Nurgle - +1 toughness

Slaanesh - +1 initiative

Tzeentch - + 5+ invulnerable save, or +1 to your invuln save if you already have one

That's what they do for Chaos Marines anyway. There's special Marines aligned to each god (Khorne Berserkers, Plague Marines, Noise Marines, and Thousand Sons) but those have more complex rules that build on the themes above.

Ahh, many thanks!

At the moment, the only codex I have is Tyranids, I just wanted to ask because I have interest in Slaaneshi marines, whereas my friends have interest in Nurgle and Tzeentch. Very helpful, you guys rock.

I've actually been looking at the Chaos Codex, front to back, looking for the rules for marks. I'm thinking I'm going blind, because I just can't find them. I can find the rules for icons, which stay they bestow a particular mark, but that's it.

They're in a box near the bottom of page 25, trickily hidden between the fluff and rule sections. Took me a while to find them too.
