Hey all,

I am very new to the warhammer universe, but I am also very excited to be a part of it. Half a year or so ago my brother gave me the game Dawn of War and since then I've been enthralled with the fluff. I don't have much interest in playing the tabletop game (mostly because I'm a student and there is just no time for that most of the year), but I really like the models and have picked up a few sets to try my hand at painting when I have the time and hopefully sometime soon, custom modeling some figures. That's my story, if I produce something worthwhile I'll put it in the gallery.

As I am new to the whole warhammer 40,000 scene, I do have a couple of questions that I would appreciate if someone could answer. With the release of the new Dark Eldar models, I noticed that the army basically had a massive overhaul with all new models. Does that happen to every army with the release of a new codex? Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I would feel silly purchasing a set if it is to be replaced fairly soon with a newer version. Regardless of the regularity of new releases, new models obviously come out. How drastic is the style change when a new model replaces an older version?

Thanks for your help and see you around the forum!

Welcome to Dakka!

And there is usually a release of models when a new codex shows up, IIRC.

There are no stupid questions... well there are, but those aren't stupid questions. The 5th edition new releases have thus far been cleaner moulds of similar style. The dark eldar look similar to their 3rd edition counterparts, but are much more detailed. They have one of the more stunning changes because it has been so long since new dark eldar was sculpted or cast. Were the Tau to get a new line of miniatures for example, they would a few new models, and the crisis suits would likely get a sleeker design, but the over look of the army would not likely change. GW seems to taking a page from the success of FW models, if you want to see what new models for your army (might) look like check out the FW website.

Welcome...and it does happen to some extent with the release of a new codex. Usually its only a special character or two, or a squad of new guys. Games Workshop completely relaunched the race though....new models for practically everything...that does not happen.

Hey
Welcome to Dakka!
They normally bring out new models with every codex, but its been a while since there has been an overhaul anything like as big as DE have just had.

Welcome. Backing up what everyone's said though note they usually bring out new plastic kits of metal things that were just too expensive to get squads of before, like pink horrors or Tyranid gargoyles. This time last year it would have cost you £32 for minimum squad (8) of those!
