So after finding out that there is a little toy/hobby shop in my area that has a 40k/warhammer club I decided to go along and have my first pug game since I rejoined the hobby.

After introducing myself I found an opponent and he wanted to have a small 1200pt game. So I quickly wrote up a footslogging boyz list and give it to my opponent to check. I was blown away when he then refused to play! I asked why thinking that my list was a firiendly list (no KFF or ghaz) And he simply replied that he couldnt be fethed waiting for me to move my 120plus models in the movement phase.

So long story short I rewrote my list into a BW spam list drew upon my dakka knowledge to make it rock hard and tabled him in 3 turns. But my question is do alot of players not like facing horde armies because of the time involed in moving them and rolling 800 million dice?

I always felt I was performing a community service by providing all the space marines with a fully painted horde of boyz to shoot at but it seems alot of folk dont like facing such armies.

Has any other horde players had this happen to them?

Only time I get annoyed playing horde armies is when I play them one after another..

I personally play a Horde nid army and my friend absolutely despises my movement phase and any time when I made attacks (20 stealers + charge = literal bucket of dice). It's also pretty tedious.

If you only play fast games, then you don't like 40K. Period.

I had this happen to my imperial guard. I sold most of them but before i did that i would have about 75-100 infantry in 1500 and that doesn't include HQ or Elites. I played a fellow who challenged me in a cocky mood, then when he saw all the models and i had deployed he refused to do anything except tell me i "couldn't do that, it wouldn't be fair". How i dealt with it? called over the hobby manager (this was at a LFGS) and asked if it was illegal to take too many models if its still in the FOC. He told me it was legal and that the other guy just didn't want to be pestered to actually take time to play a real game.

I have a feeling that all the SM vs SM battles have made folk think that any army that fields over 20 models is going to take too long to play.

Absolutely not! I love playing against hordes, watching them move 2-3 30 something man units painstackingly THEN having them move it again backwards when I lash them. Maybe I'm just cruel like that.

Playing against hordes is great fun, you can always speed up the movement phase by shooting them dead you know.

Nope, hordes don't bother me at all. I have firly compact armies, averaging about 50 models each at 1250-1500 points. I am working on a Witch Hunter army that is 80 models at 1250 points that I look forward to playing soon.

I like blowing up Ork hordes.

The only way a horde army could actually be annoying or 'unfair' is if it is at a tournament and the person with the horde is intentionally moving slowly. If he's using his horde to run down the clock to avoid losing, then that's an issue.

Just bringing a horde army? Nah. That's fine.

Yeah, I play Mech Guard, but against my best mate who plays Marines I use Tyrannids and I chucked 90 termagaunts againt him plus the swarmlord in 800 points. Poor bugger, he had i think about twenty three models on the table. Ten of them plus a chapter master in a drop pod and then he scattered right off the table in turn one. I charged everything at this remaining forces and ended up slaughtering the poor bugger in three turns too!

That being said though, moving was a serious pain! Also, I only had model genestealers which I was proxying, so, trying to stuff genestealers into close combat was a nightmare because the models stick so much further over the base!

It ended up looking like a tyrannid orgy!

I enjoy playing Ork Horde lists, they are fun, hard to beat, and you never feel to bad about losing because you kill so much stuff.

That said, I've had people look like they were about to vomit after deploying my IG sometimes and they see 17 tanks, half of them packed with infantry.

People refusing to face horde armies are being morons. As long as the force is legal, I won't complain about anything a gamer does. Well, almost anything.

It just means there will be more to kill.

And at the end of the day isn't it the killing of many inanimate plastic men that really matters?

I don't mind playing horde lists, as long as its not a tournament environment. Even against good opponents that try to move as quickly as possible, you're lucky if you can make it through 3 turns of gameplay.

Horde armies don't make games longer, players do.

Any decisive player can play fast games no matter how many models are on the table.

I love playing against a nice big horde of boyz!

This guy sounds like a bit of a... well... I better not say.

well a lot of folks are just plain crazy, I don't care about the composition of the enemy so long as their army is painted, fighting against a fully painted horde of orks would be epic, no matter the outcome! I just can't stand it when someone plays a horde army that looks like they simply rummaged around the garbage bin for a half hour and then spilled what they found on the table, then it becomes tedious and annoying.

This. The guy refusing to play the foot horde is being lame if that was his only reason. And lazy.

I really don't see what the problem was; besides, Ork hordes give large template weapon-carrying vehicle crew target practice.

Horde lists are always fun to face. Unless you overthink your movement turns, I don't mind waiting... of course, if your a "thinker" who sits there examining the board for 10 mins, then moves your models, and occassionally move them back to think AGAIN, before removing... yeah, it gets bad lol

No problems at all with a large foot slogging army. Time taken to move can be limited if both sides agree to time limits for each player turn.

Though I do worry about not having enough shooty to take them out before they get into mobbing range.

What a slow... I like horde armies, have time for a sandwich, maybe a smoke before they crush me...

I respect a man's miniatures and feel having my hands on his goods shuffling around possibly getting oil on the paintwork is less than admirable. I don't like when people fiddle with my stuff too much and I'm sure others feel the same way so I merely say how far, what direction and how big of a template I want.

There are some players who are really slow in moving their minis much more so when deciding which to fire first but the thing is, we all chose this hobby and we cannot predict the demeanor of every gamer we face, thus the safest attitude should have been, respect and patience.

I prefer fighting Nid Horde armies. It's always a very thematic battle.

And it's the one army type I can bring Noise Marines and not worry about them making up their points cost.

If the horde army is painted it would be a crime not to play versus it...as you have GOT to reward the effort of the owner who lugged all those painted models to the store...
