this granny grating really grows on me...so versatile...

the idea to use coffe (or for that matter babymilk powder) cans for terrain making i have had for quite some time... the wide circumference has lots of potential...also when you use the lids they have already a nice testure to the sides!!! a very good bonus!

oh and thanks mate for the compliments^^

somehow this reminds me of old film cans...^^

i would at least add one destroyed or rather fallen in lid/level...as i think this could look quite sweet with some steel rods hanging out bent and spent^^

the idea of the eight parter is wonderful... and again shows your ideas and how you can plan them out in layers... i think that is a good skill of yours to think that way!

the big quietion is how to creathe the levels... there must be a means of support.... will you make round walls on one side /half of the tower...thus leaving the other half open? or will you make something similar like the hexagon and quadro tower? like smaller supports for a general open look? there could be steel doorways...with open or even bent doors...the size of these lids give plenty of potential...as it has much room...

For the sake of movingthem about, maybe add an inch to that height, but that is looking like another mega-cool tower for the minsi to fight about!

The smallest size actually has circular holes instead of saquare...could be interesting.

Your collection is looking sick! That last piece is stunning, but a concern- have you used granny grating before? In my experience it is a poor quality plastic for modeling, doesn't hold paint very well, and doesn't stay glued well. I'll be interested in seeing what your results are.

@Skalk- Yep, I've used it before, it's the same soft plastic that they use for 1/72 scale figures, good CA is needed to really hold it together. The same applies to the soft plastic used for the coffee lids.

@Fifty- no these are cheap spring clamps from Menards

wsome tower! the middlesection could be modeled to hold stairways... accessable through doorways...the diameter would suffice to make spiral stairs...

the cooling thingy you put on top in two versions looks interresting but the holes are defiatly the wrong size to me... also i would then use multiple stacks/rods for this task...

at vitruvian:
Yeah! Go big or go home...

lol... but that is such a manly quote^^... and i second your statement... at least a third floor!!!

Decrepit Dakkanaut

Thanks Vik. I have already contemplated a spiral staircase, I even figured out how to do it (involves cutting another assload of identical parts) but decided just to go for an open floorplan. I figured whatever machinery that this tower used to offer maintenance access to has long been scrapped and sold. See, you can always make up fluff to justify laziness
Oh and what you see on the cutting mat there is all the styrene tube I have left (not even enough to make the third floor supports identical to the second 2 inches short!) oh well, this is all an excersize in using up what styrene I have left before ordering/getting more.

argh... the worst thing a creative mind can have him happen is to have a shortage of material...

i was thinking rather that the middle column IS the staircase...just add doors there and you are fluffy set^^

of course such a junktower would be all but functional^^ so making it look like scrap metal holding together for the love of not falling to pieces is all right^^

Made in us
Decrepit Dakkanaut

Yep, that is what I was going to do, use a central post and have the spiral stairs attached to that, but I'll save that idea for another project. It would take up too much room in this 6" tower. Using ladders in Necromunda is just as easy.

edit: oh I see what you mean, attach doors to the big pipe. Hmmm maybe I'll use that idea when I get to the Outlanders lift building.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
This is kind of what I had in mind for a spiral staircase though

However, each stair would have to be separated by enough vertical space to fit the thickness of a 25mm base (with basing) on each step. Maybe some other time, I dunno.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
At elevation, it would look something like this.
