Oh yeah! Tunnels and Vents! I forgot about those, thanks for reminding me. Maybe I should build up seperate terrain peices to represent tunnels and vents so you can move them around? I'll have to build a Mario warp zone pipe just for you!

Lovely work sir! There are some truly inventive uses of materials that I will be using as reference for my forthcoming Orks.

Spiral staircase terrain! Now that is a nice, (and likely crazy making) bit to work on. Especially the hand railing! (also so steam-punk Vik will have the joygasm!

I saw this type of spiral staricase http://uniquebriquetechniques.blogspot.com/2007/08/spiral-staircase-by-nathan-proudlove.html done in LEGO, and wondered how the idea could be put to terrain.

Pipes and vents were next on my list after I finished my current platform! All the cool kids are going call me a copycat if this keep up.

The softer plastics really frustrate me. I've tried to use them in the past (old toys like G.I. Joe stuff, granny grates, other craft store stuff) and in every case I have had a significant failure at some point. I have no patience for it anymore. I'm glad someone has figured out how to make it work.

If all else fails, try 3-in-1 advanced craft glue. It is basically hot glue that is liquid in the bottle (no heat required). As for painting soft plastic, if the part flexes, it'll snap the paint right off with regular paint, so you need to use Krylon spray primer specifically for plastics (it says for plastics on the can), it has an etching effect that really bonds it to the plastic. When cured, the paint coat is actually somewhat flexible. So no more flaked off paint.

god that is so sweet...i get some jeebies all right from that.... how to make that for my own needs is the question tho...arghh... that image is now forever in my mind...pestering me till i have built it^^

and to make a fully ingame funtioning staircase spiral looking.... holy bandsaw batman... this will take some eternity and a half...but once you have done that....everyone would envy you...

and dstein... since i wourk with cardboard i always try to make it look the part but that it doesn´t have to be able to act the part^^ so only doors and the soft hint to be stairs behind the door^^ works for me^^

Have you thought about putting the spiral stairs on an exterior pipe? So that the stairs start and end on the outer edge of the platform and make a sort of hump on the tower from a birds eye view.

Also, I would say, build a vent shaft into at least one tower, as well as separate, movable pieces.

Oh I don't think I'm gonna use the idea on this project, something later on down the road. I want to see Vik's Viktorian Spiral Staircase first!

even if bebop would never be played on elctro instruments... but i think a very fiiting name and a nice gesture nevertheless...and i think it definatly needs that middle column...looks otherwise a tad too fragile to me...

like me. On the left is a cheap steel Taiwan built pipe cutter $4. On the right is a "hobby grade" pipe cutter $16.

The cheap one cuts better and cuts bigger diameter pipes. Look around before buying some so-called "hobby grade" stuff. I nsome cases.

I disagree with my own theory when talking about clippers though. Xuron clippers are hands-down the best-made clippers on the planet. FYI: I always preferrred the black granny grate as all granny grate tends to flex/chip easily, and the black shows wear/chips less.

@ Rogue That is the mystery of the Underhive, you can only imagine what the structures were originally used as, they are ancient and forgotten. Like the technology they were used for.

They are .22 calibre shell casings from a nail gun used to put nails into concrete and such.
Thoughts?

adding all those little bits and peices really makes it look nice i think one thing that might help is maybie have some wire coming from the celling on one of those platforms running along the line of the pipes
