The funny thing is that Tau fans constantly claim that Tau can defeat the Imperium because they had one major victory against them.
Germany in World War 2 kicked USSR ass so hard but they still lost in the end.
And what about others? Like the only concern Tau wil lever have on it's dooes are Humans? If they faced Black Crusade they would lost like nothing.

Hundreds of alien races far smaller than the Tau exist outside the Imperium's control.

Not even Teh Spezz Mahreens could stand before the awesome might of twin-linked plasma rifles. In the end, the tau would have carpal tunnels from shooting all those dirty imperial dogs, but they would emerge victorious.

Actually, I've noticed Beef's fanboyism has faded a lot over the past few months.

Anyway, I've never seen anyone, ever, say that the Tau could take the entire Imperium of Man single-handedly. There are people who've said they could after a few millenia of advancement, but no one-not even Beef or Im2-has stated that the Tau could annihilate the Imperium by military conquest. Either you're misconstrueing what people have said or simply want a reason to hat Tau fans.

The Ethereals themselves have said the the Empire cannot rival the Imperium. Thats why they lure Imperial worlds to join them by offering Hentai vids.

The 4th edition cedex fluff has the Tau's response to their contact with the IoM, it says something to the effect that some, hotheaded fire caste leaders wanted to wage a massive conquest. While the Etherals planned to slowly absorb the Imperium into the Tau empire over millenia of smart politics.

Thousand Sons Battleship wandering the galaxy...

Why doesn't anyone realize that if the Imperium falls, Mankind will fall to Chaos, and the Eye of Terror would expand to cover 2/3rds of the galaxy?

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

'She sat on the corner, gulping the soup down, uncaring of the heat of it. They had grown more watery as of late she noted, but she wasn't about to beggar food from the Imperials or the "Bearers of the Word." Tau, despite their faults at least didn't have a kill policy for her race.'

On page on of this thread there was an analogy comparing the Imperium of Man vs. the Tau to a sledge hammer vs. an ant.

That's not quite right. It's more like a guy with a broken arm and a sledge hammer vs. an ant colony. And the guy with the broken arm's too busy dealing with the noisy neighbor kids to deal with the ants.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the Tau are approaching the limits of their warp technology, so even if they expand into Imperial space through conquest or diplomacy, they'll find themselves overstretched. Once the Ordo Xenos finds out, the Astartes will be paying a visit. By the time the courier ship (they can't use telepathy) arrives and the reinforcement fleet launches, it's too late. They'll arrive to find their overstretched worlds under Imperial control, their supporters purged by the Ordo Hereticus, and the Astartes and the Imperial Navy waiting. We get one free shot from the advantage of surprise, and before the Tau can regroup, the Astartes close in for the kill with boarding torpedos. It's over. We might not be able to destroy the Tau, but they can't replace the Imperium either. And you can't use Imperial tech, the Ethereal forbade Warp research after the Fall of Medusa.

And as for Chaos not existing, yeah, we tried that in Great Crusade which resulted in the Horus Heresy. So go and yourselves with a fireknife, ethereals.

You did say it before and no one believed it then. Just because you say something dosen't make it true. I don't think your the person to ask about tau technology. For starters, they don't use courier ships. (They do use trade drones, but that's something different.) I'm not going to tell you what they use because I feel that you need to study that yourself.

Now that things have broke down this much, I think it's time for this thread to die as it was always going to.

I may not know about Tau tech, but I know for sure that there's no way the Imperium can ever be replaced. Why, because, the Lords of Creation (hi GW) will never allow the Imperium to be defeated. OVERWHELMING VICTORY AWAITS...THE IMPERIUM OVERCOMES!

Didn't read the whole thread, but I think the answer is very simple:

If they brought their full power to bear, the Imperium would crush the Tau quite handily. However, the Imperium is in such dire straits as it is, that they simply cannot do this. The Tau would be a fairly minor threat, but are a serious one as the Imperium simply cannot divert their resources from fighting, say, the Hive Fleet.

Then let's end the thread with that...the Imperium would crush the Tau Empire in a full Crusade, but they aren't worth the effort considering the Imperium's other enemies, such as the Tyranids, etc...

I find the quote about space marines being the iom greatest threat to be funny, and possibaly true.

If it wasnt for the damn spess marhens the god emperor would be alive.

And ita not like the space marines really do as mich as the guard. The guard is in the trenches daily, fighting and dying for mankind, and in the end the the spess mahreens come in and steal the credit.

Nope, let's not end the thread. I think there's an option that we don't really want to consider: The Imperium and the Tau could become allies when the ethereals realize that chaos is a real thing. I think we'll soon find the fluff retconned (or, perhaps, advanced) so that the Tau realize the greater danger that the warp presents (the whole rumor that in 6th chaos will be the big bad guy it was meant to be). I think the Imperium may also be retconned to be not as xenophobic as it is presented to be now, or at least they will realize that they may need to ally with the xenos scum to stop Abbadon. I really don't think either will ever crush the other because they won't want to.
