Side mounted machineguns haha
I have plans for the usual side mounted machine guns and possibly a grot tailgunner. I'm trying to make a working bike first though, so all Dakka will come at the very end. I wanna ride it first!
xXWeaponPrimeXx wrote:I seriously love this, but I have a question about all the clay work. What do you use to keep it from coming off?
It's a two-part epoxy clay, it will stick to anything. (seriously, I use to sculpt directly onto glass.) The brand I use is Magic Sculpt.
Lone Cat wrote:Anvildude wrote:
... It's an actual bike. That will be ridden in streets and getting wet from rain and stuff. It'll generate its own rust effects!
So this implies that all Ork markings are made of steel. isn't it??
The bike is actually (mostly) painted, I'm trying to catch up my updates. I may rust some areas later, but for now it has no rust. I'm hedging the line of style choice between "Ork warbike" and "rat bike." The compromise I came up with is "poorly painted miniature." This keeps it in the Warhamms vein, and also stays true to the rattle-can style a proppa rat bike should be painted in. I dunno, I forsee me changing it quite a lot as time goes on.
And yes, from the way they are sculpted on the miniatures, I have always assumed most glyph plates are metal.
UPDATE TIME!
Here is the front bits. you will notice the horns in different stages, ill cover them in the next update.
To start with, I bevel the edges of the teeth and add texture.
Next I clean up and round at the metal on the skull.
After that, I clamp down the teeth (and other plastic bits) and drill/bolt them into place.
Done and done.
Next I prime and paint the base color.
Lastly I tape it off for the second base color.
Now it's ready for paint. up next: horns!

I kinda wonder if it wouldn't have been easier, faster, and maybe better to have just gone online and ordered up a pair of cattle horns. Probably not cheaper, though- a quick search suggests that they go for around 100 bucks for a pre-prepped pair. dunno. Maybe if you have a local slaughterhouse or something...
They'd be hollow, so you'd still be able to run the wiring through them pretty easily.
Loving the face, though.

I'm in Louisiana, so finding horns is no issue. I did actually try that at first, the problem was I needed them to be a pretty specific length, and have the right diameter at both ends of the horns. after trying to make a few fit, I gave up and just built them.
Trapthem wrote:So insane / good. Actual keen to see what the po-po say when out and about with a grot tailgunner haha
I'm not too worried about it, I've talked to several rat bike and rat rod owners. It will be interesting when/if I get pulled over.
UPDATE!
I started the horns with bent conduit, then skinned it with sticky foam and gaff tape. Once I had the rough shape I wanted, I applied two layers of fiberglass.
Once that was done I sculpted up the back of the horns and filled gaps/added detail.
Next I skinned the horns with bondo.
I then sanded and carved in the surface detail.
The bits that lead into the turn signals were too thick, so I started the horn tips by carving them down quite a lot.
Lastly, I sculpted up the "metal" tips that hold the turn signals.
Up next: PAINT!

And I'm sure that hobbyists everywhere would agree, there used to be models of som,e of the bikes built on the series "American Chopper". I never really wanted one enough to buy one.
If there was a model of this bike, however, I bet they'd have trouble keeping it on the shelves.
If only GW could see how their Orc Warbikes SHOULD look!

I had originally started the build thread at www.sewsew.com, a knitting forum. (I posted it in the crochet sub-forum.) They sent me here, so I'm not sure where to take the thread from here.
Suggestions of a more appropriate forum would be greatly appreciated! (Who knew a website called "DAKKADAKKA" Was the wrong place for an Ork warbike?!?)
Deunstephe wrote:This is coming along astoundingly. Can we hope to see a few pics of it all together soon?
Very soon. I just need to get through my backlog of pictures. I should be caught up by the end of the day on monday.
Redjaw wrote:I'd dare you to try and show that at a Warhammer costume party, but I'm not sure if you've got an Ork costume. If you do, or you can hire one, I'd LOVE to see pics of that!
I do have plans for an Ork cosplay, sadly I wont be able to drive the bike while wearing it!
I'm making a Burna Mek based loosely off this pic.
UPDATE!
I finished up the build for the back half. first up I made the banner pole.
Next I finished the splash guard on the rear.
Next I welded on some pad eyes.
After that, I pulled off all the little bits and the rear frame for painting.
Lastly, I clear off the old markings on the ammo cans, and start adding proppa warhammer markings.
Thats it for tonight! I should have two more updates over the next few days. I also wanted to say I really appreciate all the comments, they keep me going. I tend to only comment on questions, but I do appreciate compliments!
