Thanks amazingturtles! It is the hugest arena evah!

The Riddle of Steel wrote:Wow, I don't check this blog in a week or two and there are three new pages of content to catch up on! You have been busy. The arena looks surprisingly good right out of the box. A few small conversions and it will be perfect. I need to look for that for my kids, and then wait a few years until they outgrow it and then re-purpose it into terrain! They would love it since they made me build them a giant Pokemon fighting arena out of Duplos. That is a cool find, thanks for the inspiration.

Really good progress on the painting, too. So much good stuff.

Thanks for sharing the story on the remote game. I haven't tried that yet. I like the idea of doing multiple cameras, especially with an app that lets you see multiple views at once or switch to a full screen view of one, as the situation dictates. I guess it would work, as long as the remote player could communicate the moves to the player with the models... and trust him to measure everything accurately!

Thanks The Riddle of Steel! It shows, that I had two weeks off work and the kids didn't need supervision most of the time It will probably get slower after starting to work again tomorrow. Pokemon Arena out of Duplo is great, I had to build a racetrack last year when some cars from... well Cars entered play in this house.

You need the trust with measuring, but we know each other for nigh on twenty years, so that's not a problem. My friend rolled the dice via an app and just told me what they eyes were and I believed it too.

gobert wrote:Your Arena is already looking Mega Viterbi. The metal bar gates and other gubbins will help sell it as a Warhammer piece. That and copious amounts of blood for the blood god!

Thanks gobert! And yeah, there will be a lot of blood

Update on the arena, Phase 2 is finished, drybrushed the whole thing and did some color accents beforehand. And the drybrushing is a little rough in places, my wife pointed that out right away Phase 3 will be painting the wall decoration and glueing it on. Phase 4 will be finding spikes and statues (those knights have no real backside so can't be used on the plinths) and then it is finished.

Spikes and chains. What's an arena without spikes and chains?

The knights could go back to back to make a plinth?

As a fierce loyalist when it comes to armies I unfortunately don't have any spikes in my bitz box, I hope my friend comes through. Because you are right, an Arena of Doom without spikes is just a sad amphitheatre.

The knights are sidelined for now, I had another idea what to do with the plinths, hope I can show something there next week.

And some WIP shots, did the dryfitting on the arena decorations, so I don't paint too much Decoration inside the ring is mirrored on the other side. And started the tedious task of blocking in colors on more dwarves and Leena Stormspire who will be used as a Knight-Questor in WarCry and accompany my dwarves. Luckily the thunderers are almost all armour so once I blocked in cloth and leather the rest is nearly all turquoise and gold details.

Yep, plenty of options for spikes. Even on loyalist sprues there'll be knives, swords, spears, bayonets, horns and other spiky bits - plus there's the sprue itself, always good for carving some basic spikes. Cocktail sticks, pen lids, screws, nails, all sorts of spiky things around

The arena is a fantastic build- terrific attention to detail and great color selection and application! For spikes: perhaps cocktail skewers? They're really just plastic toothpicks, but some come with a spearhead shape on the end.

Stay focused! Have fun!

Thanks for the ideas! Found some wooden picks, but they were very thin. And other household items with spike potential elude me, but I'm a little stupid and your ideas with using weapons made me realize, that I have sprues of ogre bits that are still on sprue and they are most definitely spikey! Add to that some Bonereaper spear tips I had forgotten I have left over and we are go!

youwashock wrote:Ring of Doom is coming out great. Love the weathering. Excited to see the Stormcast gal painted.

Thanks youwashock and am excited for the Stormcast too. Didn't like her original bare head, but the evocator head works well. Plan is turquoise armour and try some silver edge highlights on it.

Thanks gobert! Bonereaper shields will be painted the way they are on the warband, most of the other's don't nessecarily have a warband, only stormcast atm. Will try colors that complement the arena, so most likely purple/red or some such.
I loved the KO from the first time I saw them and can't wait to do battle with them again, I painted a few models back then. I used them some time ago in a AoS skirmish campaign mixed with ebay-bought and already painted Seraphon (which I sold) and some ebay-bought and already painted Fyreslayers (which I also sold). They fared well until the last moment of the last battle... then they lost and all died. Picture of those band of ragtag heroes under this post. May they rest in peace!

Thanks for all the kind words and glad you like the arena so far. Can't wait to game in it, even if it may still take a while with this lockdown. And I'm realizing I'm not on vacation anymore, painting has gotten a lot slower Gonna try to find some time this evening to do the armour on the 5 heavy dwarves and the stormcast.

And a throwback picture, my old skirmish warband, who lost the last mission of a campaign in October 2017. KO painted by me, the rest bought painted on ebay.

Made some progress yesterday, cleaned up the metal and did the turquoise on the armour. Need to correct some bits on the SCE one, because it pooled in places. Luckily that is a breeze with Contrast as opposed to washes.

Thanks gobert and I probably miswrote (is that a word?). I only sold the Seraphon and Fyreslayers I bought painted. With the KO I have three units, one airship and two heroes I painted myself and the other 2/3 I bought painted on ebay and just rebased them to fit the rest of my army. I have no qualms mixing the purple, blue and now Alpha Legion KO, because skyports may band together for a bigger expedition.

Finished the 5 Grundstok Thunderers for the challenge yesterday. Would like to slap 2017-me for not doing subassemblies, wasn't nice trying to reach some spots. 3-Foot-Rule definitely applies for these guys, luckily the armour draws the eyes away from some sloppy details and mispainted stuff Gonna "cheat" a little for the comp and throw my red Ogroid into the ring as well as an adversary to those dwarves.

Next up are gonna be the 8 Cypher Lord models, gonna finish one as a color scheme test and then hopefully get through the rest until Saturday, gonna have the next remote game. My wife will be happy about this, because against her better judgement and interests she agreed to play a game this weekend It's not her cup of tea, but was nice to have the opponent sitting in front of me

I’m honestly glad that it’s not just me that has a thing for the metallic turquoise armour lol.
Since picking that up I’ve made every excuse possible to use it.

While all contrasts go well on metallic, something about that one just stands out from the rest.
