Thanks youwashock! I gotta admit I like Red more, because his sculpt is in my eye superior. Blue is meant to be seen from the side, but Red is good from every angle.

IGtR= wrote:The duo look great together. I really like that you have gone for two different schemes, and have made each version work. I can get very bored of models that look the same, especially where a (magical) creature is involved. I think AoS is a really good opportunity to do something like this, as there are no blocks of 1000 goblins, and you have done a great job

Thanks IGtR=! Luckily with two models this big and enough time on vacation painting them was no chore, but I get the feeling bored painting the same models. I have 7 of the 10 Mortek Guard done, but will now switch to Kharadron Overlords because the motivation with the skellies wanes.

inmygravenimage wrote:I like your take on this very much. Whilst AoS can be a bit swarmy I think you're approaching it in absolutely the right way. Interesting, characterful models.

Thanks Graven! Luckily AoS mena WarCry for the foreseeable future, so I only have to paint up to 20 models max per faction, it's very manageable esp. with such bigger monsters strewn in.

Thanks Captain Brown!

Working on the last two bigger buildings from the WarCry core set atm, sprayed them Stormvermin Fur, washed the first with Nuln Oil and will probably drybrush with Zandri Dust. And finished some details on the smaller terrain pieces, such as painting some metal and skulls.

But I'm really excited for this "terrain piece", the Playmobil Roman Arena. Saw this some time ago in the Toys thread and was delighted to find it on the German Playmobil site for just 20€ incl. shipping. But after putting it in the cart, the normal price of 50€ showed, despite the product page stating the discount. Tried with several browsers and after that didn't work either so wrote a friendly mail to costumer service, if it's a bug. But later that day it showed the normal price on the product page too, so I thought this would be it. So I was really delighted when a few days later I got a reply saying they would make a one time exception and sent me the set for 20€
Unfortunately the channel that converted the arena hasn't put up how they did it (they wanted to show their WIP pictures) so I bought some white primer and green spray color and just gonna try them out and see what happens. Although the two cans may not be enough, I didn't realize how massive that arena is, Ogroid and human fighters for scale reference.

That arena looks really cool and is surprisingly huge! Will the playmobil people statues be replaced with something or leave them for a bit of humour?

For now the stadium will remain as is, but I plan on changing the statues. They look not bad enough to be funny and not good enough to remain on their plinth I'm eyeing some from Ziterdes, but my go to online shop Fantasywelt is out of stock so I will have to wait. And a friend has already said he will look into his bitz box for any shield, banner etc. so we can spruce the place up. Gonna dive into my box later too.

monkeytroll wrote:I knew it was big, but not that big.

Must... try... to... resist... can't... That's what she said! Ok, now that is done and yeah, I was surprised myself. I started building it on the kitchen table and couldn't finish it there, because it is that huge.

Don Qui Hotep wrote:Ooh, can't wait to see what you do with that coliseum! What a great idea for a centerpiece terrain feature. It could host an entire match of Warcry - fill it with terrain pieces and dangerous beasts and see how long you can last!

Gonna keep it as simple as possible, so heavy drybrush. Problem is paint, I need to get some more, wanted to use Zandri Dust and I have only one opened pot, that won't do And there are actually some rules called Arena of Blood in an old White Dwarf, but we will sure as hell write some own scenarios.

Started on the arena, used the whole rattle can of primer and immediately went out and bought two more cans and some more color Hope it dried well, will check on it later in the garage.

And had my second game of WarCry, remote over skype. I play with three friends and we opened a group chat and I won on razor's edge against my opponent. The other two gave... constructive comments during the game It was fun and not as weird as I had expected. But next time I will use two cameras, phone overhead like this time and iPad for closeup shots.

Went better than expected. Although I only rolled the initiative dice, my opponent rolled with a computer program and sometimes sent screenshots, for example when he needed at least one six on two dice to kill my model and managed two sixes

inmygravenimage wrote:That's seriously exciting. Have you tried Arena Rex? That would be fun. Mind you, you could also do a great Trek style alien arena

Hadn't heard before of that game, but will look into it. Found some stuff online to use on the arena, hope it arrives next week.

And I'm gonna finish the last WarCry terrain from the starter today. The shade is drying and so I did the blood effect on the rest of the terrain. The options were subtle or over the top gory. As you can see, I totally went for subtle

Thanks kestral! Yes, the terrain can influence the game with maneuvering, because for example the Ogroids can't walk through doors (there's one in every big building), only archways and jumping of a building can cause fall damage, if you don't get your superhero landing right

I imagine Johann having to clean all this stuff with Brightheart and Nihilus watching

And as you all say, that arena is massive, I already went through two and a half cans of primer and two cans of green color. Later I will apply the last green and then varnish that base color, before starting on drybrushing the thing. Paints arrived this morning, so I can hopefully get this thing roughly ready until next weekend. The bigger task will be to spruce it up, as it is very plain atm. Mostly with banners and shields, but the stands are the biggest task, they are so bland. Saw some people lay miniature wood planks over it, that could be a way. Will look into some stuff.

Last but not least painted a Kharadron Overlord in a new color scheme (already have two schemes, one of my own with some minis painted and one of most of my existign army, which I bought off ebay and rebased for unity). For WarCry I'm attempting a third scheme and am quite happy with it. Only problem was the base rim, The Fang didn't really work, so I settled on black (I did another coat since the last pic ). Which means I have to repaint all the base rims of roughly 2.000 points of dwarves

Thanks Graven! And Phase 1 was finished today and the arena made its way from the garage to the cellar. Unfortunately I hadn't realize at some side parts, that they would be visible. Luckily most of it was a casualty of the spraying, so once the drybrush is on it shouldn't matter. Supplies arrived today, Phase 2 is ready to commence!

Dwarves (or whatever they are called in AoS) look great. What is the paint recipe (and apologies if I have missed it above). The metallic armour looks truly fab and is remarkably smooth. Is it one paint or a mix, as the consistency is brilliant?

Thanks Theo! Quite happy with the scheme myself, luckily if the bases are identically it doesn't matter if the KO look different because of their mercenar... eh, mercantile nature

Thanks IGtR=! The metallic parts are super simple, it's just a coat of Leadbelcher and then contrast paint Terradon Turquoise over it with one layer. Cloth is Nagaroth Night with some Highlights in Genestealer Purple.

Wow, I don't check this blog in a week or two and there are three new pages of content to catch up on! You have been busy. The arena looks surprisingly good right out of the box. A few small conversions and it will be perfect. I need to look for that for my kids, and then wait a few years until they outgrow it and then re-purpose it into terrain! They would love it since they made me build them a giant Pokemon fighting arena out of Duplos. That is a cool find, thanks for the inspiration.

Really good progress on the painting, too. So much good stuff.

Thanks for sharing the story on the remote game. I haven't tried that yet. I like the idea of doing multiple cameras, especially with an app that lets you see multiple views at once or switch to a full screen view of one, as the situation dictates. I guess it would work, as long as the remote player could communicate the moves to the player with the models... and trust him to measure everything accurately!
