Hi everyone, my name is Chad and I'm a professional artist. I've been sketching and sculpting since I was 4, and then started working with miniatures when I was 10 by painting my HeroQuest board game. I also kept myself busy by making my own similar games and sculpting out components. I graduated college with a degree in ceramics and glass blowing and now try to sculpt and paint for a living (though carpentry is my full time job).

About a year ago I rediscovered my teenage love for board games. Following some indescribable masochistic urge, I decided to paint my entire set of Axis and Allies Pacific and Europe 1940 minis and have almost finished. As many people who have seen the set have declared it "the best they've ever seen" I've decided to pursue miniature painting and sculpting. This eventually led to Warhammer 40k, which I think blended my love of modern warfare, futuristic thematics, and good old-fashioned orcs and demons.

I'm currently trying to relearn sculpting at the miniature scale. Though I often worked at very small scales with my ceramic pieces, the two part sculpting epoxies are a very different medium. However I feel as though I'm finally starting to get a grasp on the product.

My main projects right now involve three armies: Orks, Chaos Space Marines, and Space Marines. My goal was to be as original as possible while still remaining true to the codex themes. I didn't want to use any of the same color schemes or chapter names (although mine are pretty similar - I think most of the codex themes are obnoxiously bright and really set up to sell some of the less popular citadel paints).

For the Orks, I decided on the "Dead Moon Clan" Their emblem is an upturned bleeding moon with colors of yellow, black, and red. I plan on sculpting and casting many of my own helmet ornamentation, weapons, etc.

For the CSM, I'm constructing my own sect similar to the Thousand Sons. I have always been fascinated by Egyptian imagery and have even spent time studying hieroglyphs and mythology. I decided to make my CSMs the "Sons of Apep" (Apep was the hated Egyptian snake god of the night). This project will be very intensive as I plan on reconstructing many of the sculpts to fit the theme. Currently I'm working on a full set of Egyptian-esque chaos terminators. You can picture them as a combination of the CSM terms and Fantasy Warhammer's Ushabtis. I'm also working on a custom defiler, obliterator (that looks like a marine scarab), raptors, a dreadnaught, as well as sculpting and casting a series of futuristic Egyptian desolate bases.

I'm still finalizing the SM ideas, but for now I've decided on a lion theme (imrpoved version of the uninspiring Celestrial Lions).

Anyway, that's about it! I'll make logs for these projects once they start developing more, however everything is about to get put on hold as I'm going to be backpacking Peru for three months. I'm always open to commission work if anyone wants to send me requests! You can see examples of some of my work here (not much 40k up yet, but lots of other stuff):

Thanks! I think most people use greens that end up making their orks look like Slimer a la Ghostbusters. I thought about making mine black grey like Tolkien orcs, but ended up going green for a bit more overall color variation (too many dark shades).

I'll give it a try (I could use some more practice on faces anyway). What exact model where you trying to fit? I know your thread said the old Ghazghkull model, but could you post a pic of the exact one?

You have a most unique ink style of art. I can really appreciate that. I think you have an almost oriental style of ink art, and I believe there are many people searching for this simple, but powerful art.

Good luck and welcome to dakka dakka.

not really, since my laptop has issues with doing pics. It's this model:

Have you sorted the fluff out?
they could specialise in killing 'crons, since 'crons are egyptian-style robots.

Yea, but I wanted to take mine a step farther than the TS. And I also wanted to incorporate Egyptian deities into the ideas, as well as make a full unique army... Obliterators and terminators with more than just a TS head and a few extra gubbins... Mine will be completely unique, hence I didn't want them to be affiliated with the TS. They might just be a nomadic CSM chapter.
