Subject: Tyranids and Dark Eldar?

Pretty soon a friend and I plan on entering a duals tournament at our local game shop. He plays Dark Eldar and I play Tyranids. Regardless of who is tag teamed, they need a fluff backstory in order to justify such an alliance. Something like Space Marines and Imperial Guard is easy. Even a human faction with 'Nids isn't too bad because I can pull the ol' Commissar is in the Genestealer cult card. What about Deldar and Nids? We are totally stuck right now with this dilemma, I don't know what to do...

I know nothing about the background of 40k (just trying to grasp the game mechanics before I delve into the fluff), but the first thing that jumps to my mind is the Tyranids need help fighting whoever they're fighting and the Dark Eldar just agree to come along for the ride, because, well, DE love killing stuff!!
Weak, I know, but w/e ^_^

Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

Welll best thing I can think of...maybe its possible that because of the rediciuously advanced technology of the DE, they manage to cut and corner a splinter fleet from from the rest of it's hive ship (as you do), capture the most powerful synapse creatures in this particular splinter (i.e. Hive Tyrant, Appha warriors, tervigons and the likes) and place like inhibitor chips ito ther most obvious but of a tyanids anatomy that represents a brain, allowing the DE to 'trick' the synapse creatures into believing they are getting instructions from the hive mind or what not when they are just puppets to play with for the DE...or maaaaaaybe a Haemonculous made a virus that turns every Tyranid into TYRANID ZOMBIES, that do any thing their told...BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!

There is a bit of fluff in the DE codex for such an alliance. IIRC, the DE wanted to capture some of the larger tyranids for use in their gladiator arenas. They seeded the atmosphere of an imperial world with some sort of bacteria, increasing the planet's biomass, which lured the tyranids in. While the bugs are focused on eating guardsmen the DE captured a couple.
You could do something similar. They wouldn't be allies really, more the DE would lure the nids somewhere for their own gain.

No. Doing this to non-synapse creatures would be one thing, as they are little more than animals anyway. But doing this higher up the Tyranid chain of command would be godmodding and therefore bad.
The closest they'd come to an alliance would be if the Dark Eldar are simply shadowing the Tyranid forces, taking advantage of the distraction to cover their own attacks.

The DE could have figured out how to communicate with the hive mind. So in return for the DE services there is a 'cultural exange.' If you have read the DE codex this happens between the tau and urein rakarth

Its really funny because my friend and I are going to be doing the same thing. As far as justification goes, I'm thinking maybe a Haemonculus could have severed the synapse to the Hive Mind of the captured creatures, turning them into little more than brainwashed animals.

There are two small problems with your suggestion.
First, you presume the Tyranids have a culture. Second, you presume Tyranid culture supports the concept of exchange.

I don't think they'd ever be truly allied. But the Dark Eldar using a tyranid splinter fleet as a distraction to their own ends? Most definitely.

I definitely like to concept that the Dark Eldar planted a fast growing bacteria to lure the Tyranids in to the planet... Kudos to you TheBananaBeast, that just may be what we use for this tourney.

Dark Eldar Wych Cult captured a Hive Tyrant and managed with the help of a Haemonculus to drug it into obeying them.
Yes, Starcraft Brood War basically.

Using a mishmash of BananaBeast's idea and the Lady Malys bit of fluff in the codex changing orks for tyranids..... The DE are trying to attack a heavily defended *insert name of enemy race* planet to retrieve a valuable *insert name of enemy race* relic. After several failed attempts to invade, *Insert name of friends Archon* started infecting nearby planets with a fast growing bacteria and retreated into the webway. After a few years reports of Hivefleet *insert your hivefleet* were begining to reach *Insert name of friends Archon*'s ears. extatic that his plan was coming to life he prepaired his Kabul for a full scale raid. As soon as *insert name of enemy race*'s scouts first detected the hivefleet they were mysteriously reported as missing before being able to warn their allies. Not until the hivefleet was landing on the planet did the *insert name of enemy race* know what was happening. As the *insert name of enemy race* moved to counter the Tyranids the *Insert name of friends Archon* would appear from nowhere and ravage the defenders, leaving the scattered force to be consumed by the Tyranids.

Haemonculus creates an experimental device to jam and then simulate the hive mind, takes a bunch of his DE buddies and goes out to test it on an isolated tendrill of a hivefleet – it works.
