For Soundtracks with songs, some of my favorites are The Matrix, Romeo + Juliet, and the recent Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Judgment Night is also a 90s-classic, presaging the whole rap/metal fusion movement. Destrado- good call on Spawn, too. That one was remarkably good at the time too.
For scores, some great ones include 28 Days Later, Inception, and (believe it or not) Ghost.

Miller's Crossing is simply wonderful. I actually suspect that movie doesn't really deserve the emotional reaction it gets from me, it's just the soundtrack that does it.
There's also Rob Roy.
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

Inception was good, though I haven't heard it properly. Been searching for the Edith Piaf "mix", but haven't found it yet.
The Matrix 1 and 2 are very good, haven't really paid much attention to the 3rd one. Scott Pilgrim ost is awesome (and so is the game ost), and I forgot about the Watchmen, which barring one or two songs (one by My Chemical Romance) is one of the awesomest OSTs put together.
Also, 30 Days of Night had a great song by Enpr... Enst... (does an Ash face) Einstrazen Nubacheuzen... you get the picture. Plays when the main character

Loved the songs in Scott Pilgrim vs the World, kind of have a guilty pleasure for one of the songs in Romeo +Juliet (it's the main one I don't remember the title), i also like Moulin Rouge as well (another guilty pleasure). The songs the Coen Brothers use in their movies are always good too.
Inception was awesome though, here's my favorite track:
Shhhhhh...be bwery bwery quiet, I'm huntin' hewetics of the Empewa. Huhuhuhuuu...
Kilted- Kissing You, probably? The main love theme, when they see each other through the fish tank? I'm a big fan of Pretty Piece of Flesh, and the amazing When Doves Cry cover, among others. Yeah, Moulin Rouge is excellent too. Baz Luhrmann knows his songs.
Good mention of the Coens- I'm not a big bluegrass guy, but Oh Brother Where Art Thou? has an awesome soundtrack.
Cameron Crowe also has great soundtracks for his movies. Singles is an all-time great which I can't believe I blanked on before. Almost Famous is good too, and even Jerry McGuire has a decent one.
Actually, Wes Anderson's another great one for this. Though I find that his song choices, while amazing in the film, often aren't as enjoyable to me outside the film. Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, Steve Zissou, and The Darjeeling Ltd all have some great and very well-chosen songs.
Fafnir- Excellent call on The Crow. The soundtrack to the second one is very good too, though the movie isn't really.
Requiem for a Dream does have an amazing score too; The Fountain's was pretty darn great as well.

Yeah thats the one (looked it up), I like it a lot. Fits really well when your in love =).
Kudos on Wes Anderson though, his music style and choices in his films always fit well with his style of directing and storytelling. Love the music in those movies.
As far as Requiem for a Dream goes I used to love it until EVERY SINGLE PERSON in the world started using it with EVERY video online. Whether it was an AMV, or a highlight reel of a UFC fight, or playing it alongside another movie that had a considerably better soundtrack (Lord of the Rings for instance) it just started to get really overly repetitive to me after awhile and now I'm sick of it lol. But hey if you like it that's your thing.
Speaking of LOTR, I love this piece:
Shhhhhh...be bwery bwery quiet, I'm huntin' hewetics of the Empewa. Huhuhuhuuu...

It has to be Talk Show Host, by Radiohead.

You should look into the earlier work, where they let Carter Burwell go nuts. Fargo, Barton Fink and Miller's Crossing (which I mentioned above) all have very different, very good soundtracks.
Cameron Crowe also has great soundtracks for his movies. Singles is an all-time great which I can't believe I blanked on before. Almost Famous is good too, and even Jerry McGuire has a decent one.
I think the absolute stand out soundtrack of his is for Vanilla Sky, which has a wonderful range of songs, all used very well. Funnily enough, it was a pretty crap movie anyway.

Good call. It's a toss up between the Beatles stuff on The Royal Tenenbaums and the Bowie stuff on The Life Aquatic for the best, but they're all great.

Correction: The movie is named Requiem for a Dream, but the song (composed by Clint Mansel) is called Lux Aeterna. Also, the song was actually re-orchestrated for Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, although only used for the official trailer.

Yeah thats what I mean, I don't like the fact that they use it for the trailers, because I really like the LOTR soundtrack and it's better than Lux Aeterna in my opinion.

I agree entirely. The cloak effects were alright though.
I also dig "The Omen", "Pi" -- more Clint Mansell Goodness and a great film well worth checking out
, Fight Club of course and I also dig the King Arthur soundtrack too -- anything by Hans Zimemr is good though eh ?
The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
"the play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king,
'Also sprach Zarathustra' by Strauss on 2001: A Space Odyssey is really rather fabulous.
Spoiler:
Hard to argue with that.
Spoiler:
Honourable mention should also go to William Orbit's version of Barber's 'Adagio For Strings' from Platoon:
Haunting.
In addition Sakamoto's 'Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence' from the film of same name is an absolutely spellbinding piece of music...
Spoiler:
In my opinion this version is not quite as good as the original as it is missing some (all, actually) of the orchestration that really added depth to the piece. Still marvelous on solo piano though.
There are also some other films which have terrific soundtracks made up of pop music, such as The Boat That Rocked which has a lot of awesome '60s tunes on it, not to mention Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and 24 Hour Party People. Fight Club has a brilliant soundtrack of original material by The Dust Brothers, if I recall correctly.

For me, basically anything by Clint Mansell or Hans Zimmer.
I regularly (am actually listening to Inception atm) listen to movie sound tracks and the ones I'd really recommend are:
- Batman - Dark Knight and Begins
- Gladiator
- The Fountain
- Moon
- Inception
- Requiem for a Dream
- Transformers (original) - say what you like about the movie, the sound track is REALLY good.
- LoTR
But I'd second those who've said Pi.
Other ones worth trying are:
- Black Hawk Down
- The Wrestler
- 28 Days Later (In The House in a Heartbeat)

Hmm... can't add much to this as I agree with many of the choices. The Star Wars soundtracks are outstanding, not just the main themes, but the complete scores. Empire Strikes Back is my favourite, but I love the piece for the Attack on the Death Star from the original film. I can picture the entire sequence just by listening to it. The bit that is played over the following dialogue gives me goosebumps everytime...
"Luke, you've switched off your targetting computer. What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong. I'm alright..."

Oh, nice idea with the spoiler tags to cut loading times. Or is this not a new thing?
Sunshine is a bellow average film wihtout this piece of music in it. It's not orignal it's Adagio D Minor. It's in LOTR aswell. But it's an awesome take on it.

But Ennio Morricone > everything already posted in this thread + everything not yet posted.
