Quick stupid question: Out of curiosity (and from a 40k newb), what would be a good matchup against a DE raider? One on one(can be one unit). Doesn't matter if you're looking from a fluff or game point of view. A landspeeder? A group of jetbikes? Is there a quintessential rival to the raider?

I'd say most anything could blow up a raider if they are still armor ten all around. Not that that entirely answers your question.

In my opinion, a Chimera and a Raider have no similar role at all. Chimera is a mobile pilbox that can hide heavy support teams and quad melta vets in a tough vehicle. Raiders are there to deliver Wyches/Wracks/Trueborn to the front asap.

The closest thing to a Raider would be an Ork Trukk by far.

Agreed, the closest equivalent is the Ork Trukk.

The Chimera is just flat out the Anti-Raider, in multiple different ways. It'll likely take on at least a couple Raiders and emerge victorious in a shooting war, it plays completely differently with an entirely different role and carries troops that do very different things.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Ork trukk. Hmm, not the answer I was expecting. I really thought it'd be another skimmer, lol. Good to know and I appreciate the input.

bs Ork trucks. They don;t even fly! Try a Storm Raven, or a Valkyrie.

The fact that a truck doesnt have the "Skimmer" rule is basically the only difference though. They are both AV10, they are both fast, They are both open topped, they are both dedicated transports.

Granted they don't look anything alike, but in gameplay terms the only big difference is that trucks take a dangerous terrain test whenever they move through difficult terrain wheras a raider only takes it if it starts or ends its turn in terrain.

@OP - As far as fluff goes there isn't really much that compares, they are designes to be as fast as possible at the expense of pretty much all armour. The only thing that even comes close are the grav tanks of the craftworld eldar, but they sacrifice some speed for alot of durability.

That's more equivalent to a Venom.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

Probably the trukk, though unlike the trukk the Raider has a gun you actually want to use and no "ha ha dumb" ramshackle rule tied to it.
