I based my SM in Macharius Solar Orange, and now I want to wash them--I'm making my own wash using a Future Floor Wax mixture. I know washes should be darker than the base color, but when I add anything to darken MSO it looks all muddy. I don't want mud marines! Any help?

Unfortunately, you're stuck with brown as a shade of orange. One thing you can try is to give a quick drybrush of the original orange after the wash has dried to bring back the color and then highlight after that.

Try using red in your wash, should make a red-orange shade.

That will generally result in the dirty look he's complaining about.

Red is the way to go. The sniper below is painted with Fiery Orange, washed with red, and then drybrushed with Fiery Orange, highlighted with white mixed into the orange.

Water down a mixture of solar orange and bestial brown/scorched brown. thats what I did for my Fire Dragons, turns out okay. I then highlighted with a mix of solar orange and yellow (cant remember what one)
