I always figured you guys weren't allowed to post on forums. I hope you have a thick skin, at any rate.

I'd head over to the swap shop and/or the P&M boards to do some advertising.

I'm allowed to post but I'm just not going to disclose my name or store for personal reasons.

I hope people don't find it off putting, really I'm just a hobbyist like everyone else

But by saying Sydney you kind of did.

Anyway like Endova said you'll have to advertise first. I'd say get a nice blog going and/or throw some stuff up on the showcase board to get people interested.

Having something like a Golden Daemon or other prizes for painting competitions will also give you an advantage. Think of it like a resume.

I posted one of the armies I was given by a friend which was in a terrible state so repainted it and probably will be selling soon. It was originally 2-3 colours per models so I think a decent improvement for minimal effort

Hey guys thanks for all the friendly welcomes. Just putting it out there that I thought I would go onto the games workshop forum community finally and registered at warseer at the same time and got a totally negative response so don't think I'll be going back there soon.

So far I'm quite pleased by the online community here

Be careful your boss doesn't set up a sting by placing an order with you. Your name has to be on the invoice.

In Melbourne it seems the ownership / management of several stores is under one "overlord" so the "Sydney overlord" may catch you lol

It would have sounded worse if you'd started, "With all those little kids..." .

On the other hand there are almost a dozen GW stores in Sydney IIRC so he could be hiding in any of them.

Pretty hard to hide though. Given that GW is a pretty straight-up top-down business, their head office could simply place an order and identify him immediately from the payroll.

So, OP, here's hoping you've researched and are playing it safe at doing whatever you're doing!

Welcome to Dakka!

As part of the advice that I give to pretty much all people interested in taking Commission Paintings, I'd recommend setting up a P&M Blog in the Modeling section of Dakka to showcase off your WIPs and current projects. Nothing fosters interest like an active painter who shows off his process.

Off topic but....

it's pretty funny trying to spot the regional owner / manager. All the redshirts are either wearing red shirts or jeans and a t-shirt... there aren't many trappings of rank. In the large corporation I work in there is a very clear command structure and Directors and above always wear suit and tie, and section managers shirts minimum, ties mostly.

The only way I spotted the "regional overlord" , a short, beardy, down-to-earth man who didn't look past 30.
1) I know he's been around for ages, he was a red shirt when I started the hobby
2) he sits behind the cashier
3) I've seen him at multiple stores
4) He's acted as TO before (he was speaking about "paint score" and how he handles powergamers buying painted armies)
5) I've seen other "apparently senior" staff asking operational questions to him

I remember another occassion a young and quixotic redshirt was doing a sales job on me, he had great advice about painting white and green, but was very keen to sell me a pot of Gryhpon Sepia. Later when I heard he was designing the marketing campaign for "his store" with ideas... I'm like wow the young dude is the franchise owner for the store! There were a few more experienced redshirts around so that was harder to spot.

Anyway, that aside, OP, welcome to Dakka, cover your tracks and don't get caught! The IoGW does not like traitors

Umm... Your deduction isn't bad... You're a bit off though. GW doesn't operate any franchises - they're all frontline outlets run directly by GW.

There are only a couple of regional managers for the entire country...

And finally GW staff haven't had to wear red shirts for years. It's a pretty outdated title.

If you saw them before they were painted you would understand. They were pretty much bin worthy in their paintjob and construction!
