So then, Just started up orks and I am loving the fact that each model isn't encased in power armor, ah the freedom! pick up AoBR, a loota/burna box, and a trukk. and by a rare find, a brand new cheap stompa. I started working on a Mek stompa, thinking about all the shiny and special things to add, and I realized something. I didn't have a Mek! So I went and picked up a Nobz box (and some grots for the hell of it) and started converting away. Ive spent most of yesterday and this morn' working on this brute, I think the model may actually be done, 'cept for a few gubbins, but I plan to post each add-on and the painting. and I have to thank my other half for the GS work, she's better with clay and putty than I am.

Helping him with the greenstuff on this made me realize that (as much as I really don't like Orks) I really should have practiced with them before taking on the big conversions I have planned for my Chaos Space Marine army, because they're much more forgiving.

Some of the greenstuff spots aren't as clean as I would like, but if it crosses the line from "Orky" to "a total mess" it shouldn't be a problem to clean them up.

I'm especially pleased with how the headphone cord came out. I hope it paints well too. And I knew it was a good idea to keep the WHOLE pencil for bits. Using ACTUAL headphone cord (from broken iPod earbuds) for the link from the remote to the force field generator is also just awesome.

Thats an awesome big mek, mine is just a boy with a ammo pack on rubble. Oh, and fantastic use of chaos shoulder pads. I didnt even notice them at first.

Thank you, Yeah I happened across them in my bits while looking for stuff to toss on the KFF, sideways they kinda have the teef thing going on, it helped to buff up his armor

That shield generator is great! Clearly some good ol' out of the box thinking going on here. Keep on going!

I have decided that the burna needs something. I have no clue what. maybe a glyph or a few plates? an extra cord on the back. I am uncertain. any ideas?

There's a square plate in the bits with a wrench/bone shape on it that we're thinking of putting on the skorcha.

I read in another WIP blog that someone took some other plastic symbols (I want to say Chaos ones?) and used a hairdryer to soften them to bend them into a curve around the figure. Does anyone know if this works well?

Looking good! I like the headset too. May I suggest adding studs to where the wraps attach to the Burna? A large glyph plate from the Trukk kit wouldn't go amiss below his hand, across the Burna and its fuel canister. (Might hide the (slightly) sloppier GS work on that end of the fuel canister too...)

Thought about the studs, make the straps look more like... well, straps. also we asked this further up, but to you think the plates should be heated and bent a bit to fit the gun better, or just slapped on?

Slapped on - but only if it makes contact with both the barrel and the fuel canister (in which case, I'm not sure how you would bend it anyway...)

just hit it with a hairdryer for a bit an "roll" it with a pencil, Maybe I'll try both and see which is preferred. Thanks for the input, Stop by later and I should have pictures of the next step

Cool mek! I like the grot oilers too. That oil can came out great.

I second what Arakasi said, with one alteration. I think a big glyph would be perfect, but I'm not sure it would cover enough. Do you have any sheet plastic, or thin cardboard (like a cereal box)? You could cut strips of that and use it as sheet metal to further join the fuel can and the burna. (but don't forget the rivets... rivet everything, everywhere )
