Hello, I have recently become interested in attempting to assemble an Eldar army. After reviewing the codex I have created the following list:

HQ: Farseer 108 Points

- Runes of Warding
- Runes of Witnessing
- Doom
- Singing Spear

T: Dire Avenger Aspect Warriors 282 Points

- Ten Models
- Exarch with Bladestorm and Dual Shuriken Catapults
- Wave Serpent with Twin Linked Eldar Missile Launcher and Spirit Stones

T: Dire Avenger Aspect Warriors 297 Points

- Ten Models
- Exarch with Bladestorm and Dual Shurkien Catapults
- Wave Serpent with Twin Linked Brightlance and Spirit Stones

E: Howling Banshee Aspect Warriors 332 Points

- Ten Models
- Exarch with Acrobatics and Executioner
- Wave Serpent with Twin Linked Shuriken Cannons, Vectored Engines, Star Engines and Spirit Stones

E: Fire Dragon Aspect Warriors 251 Points

- Six Models
- Exarch with Crack Shot and Fire Pike
- Wave Serpent with Twin Linked Eldar Missile Launcher and Spirit Stones

HS: Fire Prism 115 Points

HS: Fire Prism 115 Points

The idea was to stick the Farseer in one of the Wave Serpents, likely the Banshee's, spamming Doom on a unit every turn (hence the Runes of Witnessing) and making it harder for my opponent to use psychic powers (Runes of Warding). Having everything in transports helps my units stay protected from shooting at least initially and create a dilemma for my opponent in choosing to focus fire on the transports early or the Fire Prisms sitting in the back (hopefully with a cover save ). I acknowledge that the Banshees will do horrible against hordes, but I like the models and would prefer to get some games in with non-harlequin units as they seem like they have a higher learning curve. I must also note that I play against more MEQ armies than horde at the moment.

I was also considering the Wraithlord, but I would need to keep him close to a psyker and poison weapons would just laugh at him.

Any advice would be appreciated.

In the Webway.

That's a good list. If you're planning shooting some MEQs, i'd suggest starcannons on some of your tanks, keep some bright lances for those tanks, though.

You're right about the Wraithlord, it'd be hard to field in this list.

Good list, nice start

Drop all those upgrades from your Banshee Serpent. I also thought they'd be good... until I realized I was using my banshees wrong.

You are not allowed to assault out of a wave serpent that has moved... this means that banshees are impracticale for rushing towards the enemy.

All is not lost though, Banshees have a very defined role in a mech list. For one, their access to fleet + a dedicated transport places them a step ahead of their competition- scorpions and harlies. Further, they have access to power weapons, which makes them preferable for dealing with the very types of targets that give your normal meat grinder mech infantry a headache- 3+, 4+FnP.

Putting all of this togeather, Banshees make for a great counter charge unit in a mech list. If something scary, fast, and 'ard waddles too close to your Meched up Dire Avengers, doom them, hop the banshees out of their serepent before its moved, move 6, fleet if need be, and engage the offenders with their power weapons and I10.

The best way to suit this role, is actually to kit their wave serpent out for shooting. I usually take my banshees with an EML + an underslung cannon. If everybody is moving, I can fire the eml as a defensive plasma blast, and move 12 inches and still fire all my guns.

One thing to consider, is that counter charging banshees are really most effective against Blood Angels. If you are not fighitng against BA, then they really just give you a taste of cc power- which can be fun in its own right. Where it really shines is punishing Mephiston (if you can get a doom through his hood, you should be able to re roll 6 him to death on a charge), and against DoA assault marines. These units are a huge pain for Mech Eldar to deal with, and having banshees can really give you a unit to bite back with.

On the topic of dragons, the exarch is a huge waste of points. Take a min 5 man dragon squad, and a simple shuri cannon serpent. This squad already is packing 5 melta guns, try to keep their profile as low as possible. If you are spending more than 190 points on the squad, you're probably spending too many points.

also never ever take star cannons extremely expensive + only 2 shots + a plethora of cover saves = will be outperformed by a scatter laser against MEQ- especially for cost.

Xom finds this thread hilarious!

It would be difficult to fit a retinue of Warlocks with the Farseer AND get them in the Serpent with another unit though...

List looks fine, it's a pretty standard eldar list

With the last 76pts give both prisms holofields, drop one spirit stone, give fire dragons scatter lasers, and bashees eml

This is looking really good for a "Newbie list".

As BlueDagger said, I'd go for holo-fields. There isnt really all that much you can do with the left over 6 points so I'd drop acrobatic from the HB's and use the points to buy 1 more fire dragon.

I can see the appeal of Holo-fields, but the Fire Prism seems somewhat like a longer range Vindicator (which is by no means a bad thing ). But because of that any roll on the vehicle damage chart makes the tank useless that turn. This was why I didn't add spirit stones to the Fire Prisms in the list before.

But then, if the opponent is extremely unlucky in his or her dice rolls that turn with holo fields, it is another turn they have to focus on taking out the Fire Prisms.
