Hi,
I want to start a new secondary army and I really like the Eldar, but I am afraid if I now buy stuff for hundreds of euros and GW brings out new models in summer or fall, that would be pretty annoying.
What would you say? Is it worth it or should i wait some more months? Are all the current Eldar models old tin bombs?
Thanks for answers and sorry for my english, I am from germany :-)

In that respect you're safe, the current Eldar range is fairly recent.

But even if they got an update soon, I doubt they'd get that many replacements for models so you'd be fairly safe anyway.

Eldar's not up for an update for a long time (Necron, Sisters of Battle, Black Templars, and Tau are all older than it and more than likely to come up before the Eldar) so it's safe to buy the models. However do note that they have one of the oldest ranges, with the Wraithguard, Warlocks, Jetbikes and a few others dating back to the 2nd edition.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

As long as you stick to mostly plastic stuff, you'll be fine indefinitely. GW seems to be replacing the metal stuff with plastic for everything except independent characters and stuff those'll probably be metal forever. But most of the eldar line is plastic anyways.

Eldar are pretty cool, I used to collect them but I didn't enjoy painting them cause I didn't like the shape of them, a bit to curvy for my liking, I like spiky and sharp stuff which is why I collect Orks.

Eldar are interesting to use. They're not going to get updated for a long time and I doubt they'll ever get rid of anything.

The most diffcult lists to beat are the seer council type builds (Farseers and Warlocks) riding on jetbikes.

Warwalkers with shuriken cannons or scatter-lasers are very good too. And taking wave serpents is highly useful too.

And as for your English, its very good much better than many English speaking people on this forum

We love what we love. Reason does not enter into it. In many ways, unwise love is the truest love. Anyone can love a thing because. That's as easy as putting a penny in your pocket. But to love something despite. To know the flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect.

I got told by my local GW manager that they're clearing our their some old stuff, like [Eldar box] and [Eldar box].
When I checked, these boxes have old Citadel logos on them, so it might just be a change to white Direct-Only packaging.

Eldar is a pretty good army, especially bike troop model, it's expensive in money only.... but in game they are good what their point cost is , like really good

I ordered the Seer Council through my GW shop, and it came in a white box with a GW logo and stock sticker on it. No picture, so generic box.
I assume it's what GW's warehouse has stuffed to the foor, with stickers and barcodes, and no pictures. And, likely to be the norm for Direct Only packs.

Money-wise, I guess an Avatar and Guardians, with Wraithlord escorts, is the cheapest way to go.
Add a Falcon or two, and that's be a fair-sized army, if a bit bland.

As far as I know, everything Eldar is made of metal except for their vehicles/walkers and Guardian/Dire Avengers. Everything else like Farseer, Scorpions, Harlequins, Hawks, Banshees etc are all metal.
Will they get a new codex soon? Cant say for sure but they were the last codex to get updated in 4th I think, so its probably not a priority like Necrons and others.

Anyway, if you dont mind metal models I'd say go for it!

Eldar are a nice army, takes a while to learn all their tricks but a fun army none the less. As for their models they should not be replacing any of the staple units anytime soon. Dire Avengers are amazing.

How did you figure that out?! Howling Banshees, Striking Scorpions, Fire Dragons, Warp Spiders, Swooping Hawks, Wraithguard, Warlocks, Harlequins, Rangers and Dark Reapers are all metal. The only plastics are vehicles, Dire Avengers, Wraithlords, Warwalkers, Jetbikes and Guardians.

You can make a good eldar army from mostly plastic, but the majority of their line is still metal.

@OP if you go for Eldar I suggest you start with 2 boxes of DA's 2 Wave serpents and a Farseer. Thats your basic starting point for most eldar armies

Sometimes GW's switches from metal to plastic aren't a good thing. For example, the new plastic daemonettes are terrible compared to the old metal ones, and now the metal ones are pretty valuable. I say if you like the models now buy em and don't worry about if they get redone in plastic. The new plastic ones may be the same/worse/ or better, but 2/3 of those possibilities are fine for you.

And I have to agree the Eldar are probably far from getting redone. They still have a strong codex and sell reasonably well from what I know.

I think if the Eldar get anything new it will be in the form of a codex. The models are all pretty recent and typically for a 2nd or 3rd tier army in terms of popularity, you will see new models about once every 6-8 years. Certainly nothing like a complete renaissance of the line (i.e. Dark Eldar). the only thing I havent commited to buying for the Eldar are jetbikes, as I am confident that GW must realize these things look outdated and need a new version in the next year or so (hopefully) .

Seems like all the new eldar at the moment ar coming from forgeworld. There's been, 4 units I think they've released in the past 6 months with a load more to come with the new imperial armour book. You never know, you might even see some White dwarf rules releases...

Pretty models, and the potential for some really good lists. There's also a ton of potential to self-own.
