Hello, welcome to my first ever post on Dakka Dakka.
Background
I've been an avid 40k player for the last 7 years and have collected many armies in that time. ranging from the ultra marines (ultra smurfs) to the Green tide of the Ork war machine. :S
I'm right now engaged to the imperial guard army that I've started which I've luckily managed to secure a cheap army worth £300 pounds for less than half its' retail price on Ebay.
My imperial guard idea 
what I'm planning to do is recreate a form of police force/PDF that took place in the defense of Verdun During the fall of Reach in the Halo universe. I thought that this would be a good army to do because of the fact that The UNSC during that stage of the War employed police forces that utilized a lot of the UNSC Marine Corps weapons, Equipment, training etc. so that when they where invaded they could put up a good defense against the covenant until the UNSC could arrive to support the defense. So really I was thinking of making an army based around this concept because it would make a small change to all the drab Cadia Gate armies out there (I have no problem with them, it's just that they're like ultra smurfs, used too much by too many people). The great thing about this list is the fact that I don't really loose any choice of what I can have as the fluff allows nearly anything, i.e. valks, vents, lemen russes, chimera etc...
I plan on using heads from the pig iron range and some backpacks also as I find that they provide decent products and even more decent prices (I mean £4.50 for 20 heads of YOUR choice? that's great) I'm providing a link now.

I've already started on the first squad which is vets-
Sargent armed with chainsword and laspistol
3x guardsmen with meltas
x6 guardsmen with lasguns
(and also for choice I'm putting in two guys with a lascannon for choice)
I've also finished my vendetta gunship in the same sort-of colour scheme as my soldiers.
I have also go a lot of other imperial guard things to convert but feel free to throw any suggestions into my force.
No pictures as of yet but as soon as I find a viable camera I'll start the picture show.
Ihave to say the the spell checker made me laugh at one point because when I typed in lasgun it said that I spelt it wrong only to find one of the suggestions as 'flashlight'.
