As we know Chaos Gods getter their strength from emotions. Does that mean that every time Space Marine slay Ork in bloodthirsty battle that emotion is feeding Khorne, even if his attention is to defend the population of that world? And if that is the case, can we starve the Chaos Gods if we control our emotions?

And what about Slaanesh? We all know that he is born from the fall of Eldar, and that he is hunting their souls. But, being the god of pleasure, does that mean that he is also gathering strength from Human emotions? And that we must control our emotions when celebrating and having good time to not feed him?

And I am surprised that Chaos does not consider the Tau a great threat, for not being a psychic race or not being able to sense warp. Tau emotions don't feed the Chaos gods, am i right?

And also for the Necrons or Tyranids. If either of this races cleanse the galaxy of all others - aren't Chaos Gods concerned that they will lost their main source of power?

So what do you think guys?

The emotions are what fuel the chaos gods, if you could just stop everyone having the emotions then the would greatly weaken the Chaos gods. That said, if you think its likely that you can stop an average imperial family from being scared when a horde of daemons pop up in their living room then I dont think you quite grasp what daemons are like.

Any being with a warp presence can fuel them. Any extensive feelings of lust or excess will be helping Slaanesh out. Anybody getting angry and punching another guy will help Khorne. Anyone being sneaky and conspiring will help Tzeentch. Anyone being afraid and suffering will help Papa Nurgle.

Tau do feed them, just to a much smaller extent than Mankind and Eldar do. Necrons and Tau do pose a threat though, the C'tan want the warp cut off from realspace and the shadow in the warp from the hive mind causes trouble afaik

Gorechild has it.

This is why the 'Light Eldar' completely restructured their society after the Fall. They channel their emotions so that they don't fall prey to the lure of excess.

So yes, moderacy will damage the Chaos gods. Problem is that the entire Empire of Man is structured in such a way the extreme emotions are produced rather than avoided. There is angst, suffering, backstabing, powerstruggle and violence everywhere. All these ambitions and occurences have parallell emotions that fuel the gods.

Grimdark isn't it? :-)

So there is no actual way to destroy them?

A) Build <suspended animation style plot device>.
B) Build robot army to defend <suspended animation style plot device>.
C) Everyone is <whatever> for 10k years
C) Chaos gods die / grow really weak over time.
D) Everyone wakes up - at the very least they have extremely weakened gods, enough so that they can reform society to wean off negative emotions.

Interesting concept.. In theory it seems as though it would work, though I think it might be very difficult to build a device that could hold the entirity of the imperium in suspended animation for any period of time. Also, effictively the 'robot' army would need to be huge in scale, ie would have to replace a million space marines and an uncountable number of imperial guard soldiers. The survival of the imperium hangs in such a balance as to make this inplausible even if such an army could be developed. Also, it would never be possible for humans to so closely control their emotions, it would be going against our nature. Without negative emotions, there can be no positive emotions, we would effectively be robots, which sounds like fairly pointless existence to me. I feel sadly that the IoM will forever have to struggle against the powers of chaos.

What about using Necron tech to find some way to kill them?

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

Well, using robotic beings to defeat the Chaos Gods might work.

The problem is that as soon as the four gods we know are destroyed, our emotions will sooner or later create a couple more...

As cilithan said, grimdark.

"How many more worlds do we sacrifice? How many more millions or billions do we betray before we turn and fight?" - attributed to Captain Leoten Semper of Battlefleet Gothic - Gothic War, the evacuation of Belatis.

If commanding a Titan is a measure of true power, then commanding a warship is like having one foot on the Golden Throne - Navy saying.

The problem is, you cant kill emotions. If you put everyone into stasis, they will still have emotions when they come out of stasis, the second people get angry again (wont take a second - "why the feth has this robot knocked me out?!") Khorne would come back into being; weaker, but that wont last long. Then people will conspire against the owner of these bizare robots that have managed to subdue the imperium and tzeentch will come back. As soon as they start fighting people will die, people dont like dying funnily enough, so some will beg for anything to take their pains away, hence Nurgle will return.
I'm not quite sure how you'd put DE to sleep for 10k years, but if you did, the second they woke up, they'd go back to feeding slaanesh.

As long as anything with even the slightest warp presence has emotions then the Chaos gods will keep coming back.

Well can you actually kill a Chaos God?

Problay not, and even if it was possible, other gods would become stronger. There are hundreds or more Chaos gods.

Then I guess that the only way to defeat them is to make some machine that will break the bonds between our reality and the warp. Something like Tyranid shadow across the warp, but only on galactic scale.
I reckon that the Tau will make something like that one day, if they are not destroyed in meantime.

The necrons are already capable of it. Their great plan was to put a barrier in between the warp and realspace, if the enslavers hadn't turned up they would have been successful.

This woudn't kill the chaos gods it would just remove the threat as they would be trapped.
