On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Hey guys

There is the possibility that many younger gamers aren't aware of what are, for many, some of the finest gaming systems ever produced.

Somewhat amazingly, last Friday GW did a small feature on these different games on their official website.

So, for anyone who isn't aware of their existence, or wants to take a closer look:

Nice to see SG getting some attention.

I'd like to think that this means that some sort of SG revamp is on the way, but sadly I doubt it.

Shame really, because as you said, some of the best games GW ever made.

When you think about it, if they were to take one of the SG, feature it heavily for a week online and give it a lot of proper WD space*, it could make them a lot of money.

* Not like those gakky campaigns they did where the skipped most of it in favour of showing you the warbands and the aftermath of the campaign, skipping everything else in between!

I agree especially one of the games that would be appealing to a broader audience like blood bowl.

Hmm necromunda. Favorite game system ever, a solid game takes about 1 hour to play and 15 mins for post game. lovely!

They have actually asked for Bloodbowl players to be present at the Oz games day (this year).

Shame then that the BB players, after many years of GW ignoring the game with no miniatures production, that many of the players no longer use GW minis.

I loved Necromunda and BFG. Still have small forces for them.

Love the Inquisitor range. Shame GW don't even have the full range on their website, less than half of what they made is available, the rest goes for silly money on eBay. Can't even get knock-offs of the stuff , I guess the game is only popular for a tiny minority who are desperate for the little there is.

Agreed. I would love to see Necromunda get the same treatment Space Hulk did. Repackaged/updated rules, some nice crisp new terrain, and a couple plastic gangs. Id love to see Escher and Goliath (or any others) done like they did the SH Terminators and genestealers.

A rehash of the long dead Mon O War would be sweet too.

This is good to see! I'm not expecting much to come of it, but I will take what I can get when it comes to SG.

I never understood why BFG support was not kept around...space travel is so central to the 40k universe (how else are the various factions going to get to each other?), it seems like a natural fit.

Well I never really played any DG other than Mordheim, so I can't say much about their game play, but I really loved the models from those other ranges.

Models from those SG ranges have made it into pretty much every EFB army I play. But it saddens me that GW doesn't sell many of the models any more.

I still regret to this day not buying the Imperial Navy Bosun from the Inquisitor range.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

I love Necromunda. My fav GW game of all time. Thank goodness there are still companies (like Heresy Miniatures) making models for it (in a round about way).

It's been a while since we've played Necromunda though... I feel the itch returning.

I have played and enjoyed BFG (still do!) BB, Mordhiem, Necromunda and Inquisitor. Most of this was with borrowed minis.

And most of this was on a Thursday in the Games Workshop in Manchester.

Some of the older stores do run SG nights. But the wonderful one man stores are becoming a drag with everything. I have been told I can't play LotR Strategy games recently.

The auidence for specialist ranges is there, and some of the greatest games I have played have been using SG rules. But it is more the way any games other than big 40k or WHFB are forced out of the smaller stores.

Sad times

Seriously, you've been told that you can't play LoTR? That's... interesting..

I think it's at least several years since SG were allowed in my local store, there would be the occasional period when everyone would go mental for BB and the store would become a heaving mass of cheering and laughter, with pitches set up everywhere. Ah, happy times!

This 1000 times. I would literally but enough copies to make a massive spire city several feet tall that would span a 4x4 table. I play Necro all the time, and the old terrain is ok but new stuff would be awesome, as well as nice plastic gangs(any houses, no preference really).

I really hope GW realizes the possibility of releases like this after SH. Surely they aren't blind to the demand or the profits to be made.

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games

Indeed, a rehash of Man O' War would be sweet - I've spent many a happy hour playing that game.

I would also like to see space marine/epic get a re do, maybe as has been suggested elsewhere a 'heresy' game (which I believe it originally was).

Love BB, hate the prices. £30 odd for a team of 11/12? No thanks. What's worse is that ebay prices for BB teams seemed to have gone through the roof as well.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Yeah I looked at them yesterday KK but they are just as expensive - £38 for a team of 12 dwarves. Mind you some teams are cheaper than others

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I think I have some halfling BB players if you want them (I think I have 4 of them unpainted ).

I would love an updated and streamlined Necromunda set. I have the terrain from the first version that I sometimes use in 40K games, but I would really enjoy playing an actual game with the wife (we play a fair bit of Heroquest and a sci-fi version would be cool ).

It's called Uncharted Seas and is now produced by Spartan games. It is around 1,000 times better than MoW ever was, yet still delivers that magical medieval fantasy naval drama.

Just played a nice game of Epic: Armageddon last night as it happens. Used the free rules off the GW site (which were last updated only 2 years back). I used old placcy Space Marine figs I got off fleabay, but I'm now thinking of starting an IG army using 6mm stuff from Exodus Wars: http://www.exoduswars.com

If its tournaments you are after, then http://www.epic-uk.co.uk/ has loads of information about balanced and playtested lists, events, contacts etc.

To be frank, I think Specialist Games are better without GW's overpriced involvement. Independent gamers, when left alone, tend to do a much better job.
