Wow, I just completely stumbled across this on Google. It's a forum thread from 10 years ago when the GameCube was just announced and everyone was comparing the GameCube to the Xbox. Everyone in the thread said that Nintendo's GameCube was going to obliterate Microsoft's Xbox, and that the Xbox would fail. I for one find it hilarious that people were accusing Microsoft of being evil and the Devil, much similar to how we have now turned our hate towards Activision. The thread also moved into discussing piracy, more particularly console (GameCube to be specific) piracy, which everyone suddenly seems to think is a new issue. And people referring to how horrible Xbox was doing in sales. It's kind of fun looking back on these old console war threads, kind of informative and tells you what people used to think like back then. What do you think of this?

I have to say, the 360 is good, but back then, the Gamecube had a lot of advantages. A lot of people say Nintendos biggest weakness is their lack of 3rd party support, but they have more than enough 1st party games to make up for it.

Just saying, there wasn't much on other consoles that could top Windwaker, Pikmin, or Metroid Prime. Some, but not much.

Their weakness now is their abundance of third party games.

I liked my Gamecube; Ninetendo really thought ahead when they made this light console that came with a handle for easy carrying. You don't see X-Boxes of Playstations with that kind of top-level, high-grade ingenuity!

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

The Gamecube is going to be a cheap piece of crap, other than Nintendo's proprietary licenses.

You seem to start the sentence with a commentary on the console but the last half is about software. If you could be a bit more clear I would appreciate it.

My GameCube never got as much play as my Xbox, PS2, or DC.

There weren't too many titles I was interested in. Luigi's Mansion was fun as was Pikmin. I also liked the Resident Evil remake as well as part 0. Baiten Kaitos was interesting. I loved Metroid Prime and Prime 2.

Initially I didn't have any faith in the GC... In fact I got mine as a present from my wife at the time of its release. I possibly would never have bought it on my own.

Well it would seem that OP learned that console wars are not just a recent invention.

Also: Battalion Wars and Donkey Konga were both fun games.

It's actually a bit of a cheat, it's really weird, but it works. I forget the exact method, read it on GameFAQs a while back.

G-black's cool, but he's not OMGWTFAMAZING.

Personally, I'm a big fan of Chrono Samurai, Sonic Samurai, and Vampire Knight. G-red (normal), Killer Girl and Cyber Hero are also crazy kinds of fun too.

Unfortunately they failed in terms of online. There were only like 12 online games, only 5 of which were released in the United States. And only tho of which are actually still playable online.

Given that Microsoft lost billions of dolalrs on the first Xbox, I'd say that was actually a pretty good prediction.

Of course, it's Microsoft, being 7 billion in the hole doesn't mean they give up.
