Disbeliever of the Greater Good

Hi all!
I'm new to 40k and modelling, I have yet to actually even play a game!
At the moment my main interest is in the painting and modelling aspect but I'm looking to go to a games night at my local store soon.
I currently collect Tau, and have a basic set. Got myself all set with paints and brushes etc, and I think it's just a case of practice practice practice. Of course it might help thing along if I can pick up some pointers from seasoned folk so that's why I'm here.
I want to try and get involved in the painting and modelling sections particularly, and look forward to recieving critisism.
