Great work, I bow down to the awesomeness of this model, and you broke up the red on the missile barrels nicely.
Looking forward to seeing what is next... been a flurry of updates from yourself recently... someone is getting some good painting time in over the holidays.

I am blown away by the crisp whites on the reds and the shield/amor bits on the legs. Makes me want to chuck my miniatures lol.

Cheers Storm, I am quite happy with the design and paint of the model, just not happy with how long it took me to get here. I posted the WIP 1 back in August of 2013 so I really dragged the ball on it.

6000 Point Game, SM/GK/Inquisition/Assassin vs SM/Tau
Apocalypse – Custom Rules:
I made 3 6000 point lists and LDP rolled a D3 to determine which force he fights.
Each army gets broken into 3 parts, first part is a first force, no super huge units, think of it as a scout’ish force, then on turn 2 half the remaining reserves come in, turn 3 the last half comes in. For each reserve set there is D3 outflanking units, this can be any unit you wish.
LDP won the roll off however with the Callidus assassin and coteaz quickly realized I had a high chance of getting first turn so decided to give it to me.

My Deployment
I chose to have the two dreads, the thunder fire and GK Techmarine sit tight in the aegis defense line, Assault squad in front of them and the Vindicare in a tower. I had a tactical squad on my far left flank, the GK purgation squad hid behind a solid wall to deny Line of sight. Dakka predator bunkered down behind a hill, the other two tactical squads too center right. Having played LDP before I figured he would have a strong center presence and having my heavier units in the center I hoped this would pay off.
I got Gate, Vortex, cleansing flame and hammer hand for the Grey Knight Librarian.

LDP Deployment
Changing up his play style a bit, the Lascannon Devastators, land raider with Marnius and his honorgaurd and Tactical Squad in a rhino deploy on his left flank, Centre is only the las pred, and the right flank has scouts in the ruin, Sicarius in his razorback and the other tactical squad in the rhino with a chaplain hiding in behind. There as an attempt to seize however this fails.
My Turn 1
A very brutal turn one, however it was in my favor, the assault marines start heading for Sicarus, my left razor heads right slightly trying to get a better angle and the other two Razorbacks pull in behind the cover as the land raider and las predator could ruin their day. Shooting goes quite well, the Vindicare does what I’ve never seen him do and insta gibs the Las pred in one shot, wow.
The thunder fire cannon minces the scouts with ease. All the autocannon Dread shots manage to wreck a rhino. My Razorback heavy bolters and dakka pred manage to take down the Devastator squad to 1 marine and the sergeant.
LDP Turn 1
Reeling from a withering opening salvo, LDP stiffens his upper lip and starts to take stock of what need to die on my side, he starts by deciding my thunderfire should die first, 4 blast templates a turn will shred his marines if it gets to fire again, so combined fire from the forward moving landraider and the remaining las dev take it out.
Next his tactical troops need a target so manage to get a few guys in range of my assault marines and take one down.
Sicarus’s las razor takes a hull point from my right flank razorback, not much he could do with limited firepower All he has to do is weather another turn of shooting and then more guys will be turning up.
My Turn 2
Well, it’s either a Grey Knight force arriving or a Space marine force, rolling up the dice I get Grey Knights, awesome sauce, I also roll one outflank which I choose to put on the assassin, then roll a 5 for where, looks like she’s coming in from the rear. With LDP being separated on two flanks I figured I would put a speed bump in front of Marinus and had the 10m terminator squad + libby Deep strike in front of the landraider, no scatter, then proceed to get of a vortex of doom on the raider and rhino, but doesn’t suck them into the warp.
On the Left flank I had both dreadknights drop close for heavy incinerator and Psycannon shots, however a 11 inch scatter on one changed that quickly, I had the Grand master and 10m terminator squad try to get close as well however a small scatter back sure changed that. The assault squad moved further forwards to left flank, in the center the Stormraven with purifiers boosted 22” to get within melta range of the landraider, Shooting again was pretty good, the remaining las dev dies but his sergeant doesn’t, Sicarus’s razor is wrecked, the landraider is wrecked and I put a hull point on the remaining rhino, heck even Marnius took 2 wounds! What didn’t go well is the full 10m terminator squad with 2 Psycannons and a grandmaster with Psycannon all shot at Sicarus’s squad, not a single wound was done, seriously? Artificer armour and a FNP roll is worth its weight in gold.
LDP Turn 2
Well a beating was applied, however LDP isn’t done yet, for his reserves its either Space marines or Tau, rolling up marines and a single outflank, he gets some guys into the fight. LDP decides to outflank the landraider and assault marines from my left flank, the raider flames, shoots and melts a couple of terminators
The Chaplain, decides to get angry and jumps out to mince the assault squad, he does so after the Dreadnaught which landed in the center shoots some assault faces, the saving grace is that the powerfist sergeant manages to kill the chaplain before he runs away.
Marnius not taking a beating lying down fires off with some help from some plasma cannon + plasma Gun shots into the Libby + terminator squad and do a couple of kills, then charges in, takes a wound however kills the Justicar in a challenge, however loses two honor guard to demon hammers.
In the back left corner the plasma command squad take the Dreadknight down to one wound with some very lucky saves from me. The normal terminators take fire at the assassin however hitting on 6’s and a 4++ keeps her alive. In a huge turn around, Sicarus manages to wound himself from a misfiring plasma pistol, how about that.
My Turn 3
The remaining marine reserves pile onto the board, I get one out flank and decide the rear armour on a couple of tanks looks too good to miss so my land raider crusader pops in from the flank, opens up and does a single hull point on the Vindicator, bugger.
The stormraven machine spirits the multimelta into a rhino, blows it up and the remaining marines get shredded by the assault cannon and hurricane bolters.
The full Hill point dreadknight and remaining assault marine pincer the dakka dreadnaught and take it out in close combat.
My centurions come in behind LDPs landraider and with 30 grav cannon shots the tank is stripped of all its hull points and the terminators have to disembark. They are met with a rather annoyed grandmaster who then shoots and assaults them, taking them out.
The one hitpoint dreadknight and assassin go into the plasma toting command squad and the assassin minces them with her blades, leaving only the apothecary alive.
My Terminator Libby having escaped Marnius’s wrath for a turn now has to take some shots on the chin, he does, and tanks it like a boss, this allowed the rest of the squad to gribble the remaining honor gaurd and having lost combat the mighty Marnius flee’s combat and runs away (while I’m not saying it was like a little Girl, some might say you could see his dress flowing in the wind)
LDP Turn 3
The remaining reserves come in and he gets 2 outflankers and has a path finders group and battlesuit team to come and eat my librarian and his squad, which they do with great flair, leaving only the libby on one hitpoint and fearful for his life.
The vindicator having taken some back end shots heads away and does a 180 firing its cannoning into the landraider. Well a direct hit, a pen and a 6 results in a very dead land raider and some terminators in range of most of his back line
Who then get shredded by his sterngaurd and poison special ammo shots and marinus’s AP2 bolt guns.
The one hitpoint remaining Dreadknight and assassin meet their demise at the hand of a terminator squad
The grand masters group get decimated, leaving only 2 terminators and the grandmaster, all down to dakka terminators, tau fire warriors, tau riptide, and plasma pistols from sicarus and his team, yikes.
The broadside takes aim at my las pred but somehow doesn’t manage to do anything to it.
My Turn 4
The grand master gets angry, real quick, and runs up to sicarus and his team and teaches them the meaning of pain, AP3 halberds and a demon hammer eat away through all their armour.
My full health dreadknight and riptide manage to get engaged in close combat, however I didn’t get force off so it comes down to beating on each other with fists, the riptide lives this round.
The Stormraven drops off the purifiers and boosts off the table, the purifiers then power up cleansing flame and eat a few models, then fire of an incinerator and eat some more, then charge the large (well now it’s a bit smaller) group of fire warriors and eat the last of them, nom nom nom.
The two heavy bolter razors shoot at the broadside and take away the drones, leaving it open to my las pred, who does what was required of him.
My libby fires, cleansing flames and tries to assault the marines, dies to overwatch, bugger.
The hammernators move to assault the sterngaurd, and I roll two 1’s for the amour saves to overwatch, bugger again.
In other news, my bikes and purgation squad manage to gribble the tau battlesuit team leaving only a few models alive, they pass their morale. My dakka preds make some marine puddles as well.
LDP Turn 4
LDP’s flank with my grandmaster has fallen, however he refuses to give in, the grav marine and his buddys move into range and take a wound off of him.
The Riptide survives another round of combat, what a monster! The sterngaurd move to kill the purifiers however with marnius and the fire warriors there, those purifiers don’t stand a chance.
The Devastator sergeant jumps in a freshly abandoned sterngaurd rhino which moves forward. The remaining battlesuits jump away and head to cover from the bikes, and then get bubble wrapped by marines. Their shooting manage to do some very good shooting, my Chapter master dies, and all but 4 bikes die, the chapter master will be missed. His stormraven goes off the board.
My Turn 5
My bikes boost forward ready to shoot and assault the marines however they also keep an eye on the battlesuits, if an opening comes up they’ll go for it.
The marine squad gets down to one man with the purgation squad, tac squad and razorbacks combining their fire. The Dakka preds also put some rounds on the tau however not much is done. My center based tac squad shoot into the fire warriors and take a bunch out.
The grand master goes after the remaining tac marines and finishes them up nicely. The Riptide survives another round with the dreadknight, I am very surprised.
LDP Turn 5
LDP’s storm raven comes on and he has his sights set for a dakka pred put only manages to put a hull point on it.
The battlesuits and remaining marine kill all but one of my bikes.
The sternguard butcher my center tac squad with help from the firewarriors leaving only one marine alive and finally the riptide succumbs to the fists of the dreadknight
The Dev Sargent manages to take a razorback down to one hull point but doesn’t finish it.
We end the game at this point.
Summary: Winning first turn meant that LDP was always playing catch up however he did some very amazing dice rolling and tactic’s that shut down some big hitters of mine. If I were to do anything differently it would have been to have the grav cent’s arrive in the center and shoot across board as they got stuck on the left flank and everything was removed from that side. Overall a very enjoyable game and I really want to do another large game like this again!

A truly fantastic game indeed! I loved the scale and wave-like nature of the growing forces we had Brace yourself in future for an albiet smaller at first pure Tau force as this trial game has made me realise they perfectly fit my playstyle! It's just going to take me around 800 years to paint them because the T'au scheme is tricky heheheh, but yes! Fantastic game! I'll gladly take the loss because I got to see some classic heroics from my loyal HQ choices and some other gems along the way Would love to maybe even try and squeeze another game in before I leave? Just putting that option on the table
Thanks for sharing that... great game to read, I liked how you had different army components come on in waves, and even the randomness of how you chose what army to use at the beginning is cool... no list tailoring here
Big games really bring out the chaotic nature of battles, so many things going on everywhere and one unit can really shine while rest of army goes down like nobodies business.
