As an Orlando gamer I am interested.

Do you have a website? What kind of event will it be? Tournament? Nova/Adepticon Championships style?

Let me know. Thanks

He's a former dakkanaut that had the name "Green Blow Fly" and "Black Blow Fly" usually just referred to as GBF and BBF. He's been forcibly retired from Dakka by the moderation team, but has a blog on the internet somewhere if you try searching for those two names.

I heard his affiliation with Bolter Beach did not end well.

If this is a BBF event, then I am out. He was the primary reason I didn't attend Bolter Beach.

Steve Turner is heavily involved and running the event. If that is an issue for you then you know now and don't have to bother. Many people are involved in BeakyCon and we want this to be a great event.

I know of this guy, is he affiliated with the 40k Wrecking Crew? I know quite a few people in my area who have played him and didn't like him for quite a few reasons... actually I was at Bolter Beach and remember the shenanigans that went on but I'll leave that off Dakka haha

I'm happy to see more GTs in FL but the people running them needs to change, I'm out along with the 16 other players in my group..

I'm not sure what is going on here, but I have meant Steve and been to both Bolter Beach were Steve and Yuri was running it. Both guys did a great job. I even played a match against Steve DoA Vs DoA and had a great match. Whatever happen in the past with either Steve or the 40k Wrecking should stay in the past, you live for today and stop crying about it. I know that I'm going to both tournament this year and will always enjoy it. We as 40k plyers should support upcoming events like GT events, there isnt many in the Southern area. Plus if you have personal problem you should keep to yourself and let other player make their own opinion about a person or a club.

I think the majority of the players who refuse to play with him base it on the fact that even if we moved on and "stopped crying", Steve will still play the same. I'm happy that you had a good time playing against and I hope the best for Beakycon but people who don't further the hobby/community in a positive way shouldn't be in a position that influences new players coming into the game imo.

Couldn't disagree more. You are your reputation. If this guy has a reputation for being less than fun to play against (or worse) than the community has every right to spread the word, especially if he one of the main guys behind an event. Judging by the responses so far, maybe the organizers should have considered the effect that his involvement would have on attendance.

Even thought everyone has their right to their opinion, I still believe that players that has a pure negative output shouldn't spoil for the rest for us. Let players express their own opinion about the event and not the person who is attend or run an event. You cant live in the past, you live for the next mintune. If you believe that a player can spoil an event, then there would be alot of players not attend any tournament.

You can't live in the past, but you definitely have to learn from it.

That said, I think I may pop over to the Tampa area and get a few games in between now and then to see what's what for myself..

I am all about giving people fair shakes. I am probably one of the most laid back forgiving people you will meet.

BBF has burned me three times, and has repeatedly burned people I know fairly well as well. He has a bad reputation for a reason, and after what I heard went down at the last Bolter Beach, then I am not convinced that there has been any change. He is really nice and amicable in a game, as long as he is winning.

I will not support any event run by him or including him in the organization thereof, because I have not been shown any evidence that he has the best intentions. I see no point in walking into an event run by someone who has burned me personally. I would rather go to a party being held by a guy who robbed my house, I would feel just as comfortable.

I know these are strong words, and I apologize ahead of time if I offend any body. There is a reason he is banned from here, and there is a reason I can't support events run by him. That should be fair.

I wish anybody who would like to attend a good time. Good luck.

You are absolutely right. Everyone should keep their opinions to themselves, and should not tell people about personal issues they have had. That way the person in question is free to do as they please without any repercussions and there is always a new fresh batch of suckers for them to take advantage of.

Right and Wrong.

We should promote local 40K events.

We SHOULD NOT send lambs to the slaughter without at least warning them about the guy running it and the stuff he has pulled.

Steve has run or help to run several large events over the past five years in two states. He received a lot of positive feedback and has been very active. Have you actually attended any of his events or are you just spreading hearsay, fanning the flames?

Careful....Steve has had multiple accounts banned from Dakka that he tried to sneak in after losing his primary account. A couple of notes for you.

1. If you pretend to *not* know how bad of a reputation he has, we're going to think that you are him. You can't know him and be naive about it, it isn't possible.

2. He has run several large events over the past five years in two states. He *did* receive a lot of positive feedback. He also received a lot of negative feedback. With other GTs pulling in 256 people and wait lists, why do you think he scrabbles to get 20something?

3. Here's a sample of his blog: http://greenblowfly.blogspot.com/2010/06/all-about-dashofpepper.html. So in this blog post, Steve announces how everyone he knows feels about me, and how much the 40k community despises me. And in individually soliciting feedback from named parties, it turns out that Steve is something of a habitual liar and I shouldn't take him seriously. Not to mention that the kind of person who would WRITE a blog like that isn't a good person in the first place.

4. It takes a lot to get perma-banned from Dakka. You have to be a truly offensive, despicable person. Not casually offensive. If I say to someone, "Wow...you post like a worthless douche because you ARE a worthless douche" I might get a warning. I might get suspended for a few days. But I won't get permanently banned unless I do this over and over for months and years, continually offending everyone.

Ponder that.

He has been very very active. Sadly, that activity has caused no ends of grief amongst the community. As for positive feedback, the negative feedback FAR FAR outnumbers the positive, which I have never seen any apart from the few people on this thread.

Moderator Frazzled here.
You presume much DOP.
1. No WE WILL NOT ASSUME HE IS BBF JUST BECAUSE HE DOESN'T KNOW BBF's reputation.
2. It does take a lot to get perma banned from dakka, but there are some things that make it easy. NONE of those are relavant to GBF or this discussion.
3. I've kept this thread open to provide full and complete information about the tournament. Absent some other moderator closing which they are free to do, if you have a point about WHY this impacts your decision to go here state it, BUT BE SPECIFIC so that others contemplating attending may use the information for themselves. Otherwise dispersions about former posters are not permitted on this forum as they cannot defend themselves, and get off the thread.

Frazzled:

If discussing a person who has left such a negative impression on such a wide diversity of people isn't allowed because he isn't on Dakka to defend himself, then a thread about an event being run by that person may also be a bad idea?

I do apologize for presuming too much, I dind't mean that the moderators would make presumptions...but that people who know/remember BBF's postings here would start getting suspicious. I hope you didn't read too much into it. Also, that line made me think of Darth Vader, so I hereby nominate you Darth Frazzled.

In terms of specifics about WHY I would not choose to attend a BBF event:

1. A castled up tank wall sitting in a corner with one sitting half off the table (before the new GW FAQ). Template scatters onto the rear tank, lands direct hit. However, where the template landed is off the table though it is on the tank. Steve goes ballistic that it doesn't count as a hit because the it scattered off the table - even though the tank is off the table.

2. A "magical" set of dice that always roll 5+, no one is allowed to inspect or look at closely, and which are legendary in the area. As far north as Orlando, when I go to a tournament and roll well, I can hear "You're not using Steve Turner's special dice are you?"

3. He's banned from the stores in Orlando for cheating - I can't speak for anywhere else. My personal interactions with him have been horrendous - from him maliciously lying to personal threats - he had promised to come up to the Nova Open last year with brass knuckles and some nonsense to beat me up - not something you joke about with friends, let alone something you tell to someone you write evil things about.

I'm not going to into how I feel/loathe/detest or start dispersions - I could go on for a page. But those are the facts I have to offer. I will choose not to attend a Steve Turner event because I do not believe the rules will be fair, nor that the judging will be fair, nor that I can expect cheating to not occur. I say these things because of his own proclivity in doing so.

P.S: Mahu, I miss you guys at Sci-Fi. :(

From a PM. I will leave the link so that posters can make of it what they will. Again, this thread discussion is only being allowed as this former poster (not including sock puppet accounts of course) would have a direct impact on the tourney and as such is pertinent.

Sorry for being off topic but someone has to defend BBF.

@Dash I know about your personal feelings regarding BBF as I do Mahu. Steve is a very polarizing and your opinions are him I will not dispute. But I do have to address the 3 points you made about what Steve has done.

#1: Yes that was a very questionable move something that is WAAC. But the tournament organizer did allow that vehicle to hang slightly off the table. Yes it was Pre-FAQ but the fact remains was the TO made the call that both the tank could be partially out and that the template did not hit. I had that same ruling of tanks slightly out of the board in APOC games with baneblades coming from reserves (even moving at full speed still part of the model hanging out). Your NOVA game with Stelek, you tried to put a battlewagon inside a fully intact castle mount. Questionable yes, but like with the game with Steve, the TO ruled you can. http://yesthetruthhurts.com/2010/08/dash-vs-stelek-my-take/

#2: Dice cheating issue. That claim is baseless and you know there are people in this game that are just good at luck. When you were playing in Orlando, you played a guy who was notorious for dice whoring. No questions of dice cheating have ever came up because we know he has a way with dice. Steve is known to be a dice whore at times but you can always ask Ben Mohlie how his "magical" dice were working for him this past weekend.

#3: I do not know if he was banned from sci-fi but I do know the reasons for his ban at formerly Rhubarb. I cannot say what they are specifically but I heard first hand from the former manager it was not for cheating. Paladin Games I know for sure has not banned Steve since the former TO and the owner have not mentioned to me who to ban from 40k events. Phoenix games was way after Steve played in the stores. He plays at Coliseum of Comics every so while and I recently was in a team event with him in Dec. From the looks of it, it seems at best only 1 store banned him but not for cheating and sci-fi is unconfirmed.

#3 part 2: I agree with you that your personal interactions with Steve have been to say nicely not the best. The two of you have personalities that conflict with each other. You say he is a malicious liar, that may be true and his credibility is also questionable. Yet you take physical threats seriously? You know he is a liar, so you know he will never harm you physically. Threats coming from a member of the AARP, he will probably break something trying to harm you even before you retaliate. But I do agree that physical threats are not a cool thing to do. It was highly irresponsible of him to write that and I told him he should take it down. But he did write that blog post in a fit of nerd rage and I too have been a victim of my firey tempered passions and wrote some stuff that was ugly but when I came to my senses, I deleted it. But at the same time how many times have you heard people say or you say "Arrrgh I want to kill that guy" out of frustration. You know most of those statements are baseless and you know writing on the internet can sometimes its a perfect example of Poe's Law. You also know things can be misinterpreted like your DE tactica when you said "NO!!” We are killers. If you are a Dark Eldar player, you are a KILLER!" http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/357250.page .Your state of mind heading from a few sentences can be misinterpreted into advocating WAAC play or someone to beat up their opponent if they lose. I cannot prove that it can but there are some people who are not of rational mind that have a similar rationale like Mark David Chapman.

I harbor no ill-will towards you but at the same time, you have written a few statements about him that are not true. I am not sure if you are lying or ill-informed but some of the things Steve has done, you too have done. Both of you have people who like you and who dislike you. As to the missing article, please dont blame him for deleting the article when I told him it was not a good idea to write it and better off getting rid of it. I know you will never reconcile with Steve and I know he wont do the same.

Wow what an emotional powder keg this thread has turned out to be. I have read all the negative things said and think for the most part there appears to be some competitive feelings which is silly as the events are spaced out by several months. Also it looks like some people have rubbed each other the wrong way and it cannot be consoled, which is really unfortunate when it comes to any game. I am here to provide information about the event and not act as an arbitrator - there are definitely better channels for the negativity.
