That Malcador came with two Cadian/Imperial tank commanders and two Renegade commanders. Unfortunately, no DKoK commander.

I know what you mean about the mud on the models, it's just after spending time slipping and sliding through trenches I find mud all over myself! Armpits being the most surprising...

Double T these guys are stunning,I too treat my bases like models themselves.
I would like to turn you on to a product I have been using,you probally heard about it, MIG powder and AK Interactive weathering powders and products.
This is what the modern armor modelers use,produces the most realistic effects.

This stuff mixed with a little plaster of paris can make all sorts of effects the morelaster the thicker the mud.
Load up a brush load of it and hold next to a vehicle ,and blast with a low pressure air from your airbrush makes very realistic splatters

I love,love,love painting armor,a couple years ago,I started trolling the modern Afv type of boards(armorama,and Fine Scale Modeler) to learn new tricks.
I stumbled on a series of articles by MIg Jimenez who is one of the top names in scale modeling and discovered his products.
MIG pigments and filters.
You do not need the airbrush that just provides the most realism,flicking a loaded brush on a model will work too.
But with your skill,you really should put aside $100-150 on a midgrade airbrush and compressor off E-bay.

I didn't want to accuse you of advertising, don't get me wrong. I just thought that it sounds like they could use that wording in advertising. You seem to be really impressed by that stuff.

I read Mig Jimenez blog from time to time (I love the latest parts about that Tiger) and I'm amazed by his skills!

Up until now the Hades and the Centaur were the only vehicles I ever did, so painting tanks is something new for me. I'm not really happy with how the Centaur looks atm. and I will surely go over it again.

Speaking of tanks ...

I said that I would do heretic things to a Malcador, but after sawing it apart and taking a 15 (!) mm drill to it, the outcome is just divine (imho):



The mother of all Leman Russes! Still heavily WIP, but ... yeah. I like it!
I put some other things around it to show the scale.

And of course this baby is screaming for a better paint job / weathering than the Centaur!

doubleT; I am sorry if this is a repeat question but how have you achieved the wonderful mud and dust effect?

With mud.
The mud is woodglue, sawdust, fine sand and a bit of water. Painted with Bestial Brown, washed with Devlan Mud and darker parts with Badab Black.
The dust / dry mud is Bestial Brown with Scorched Brown, not mixed but next to each other and I dip the brush in both. Lightly drybrushed on!

For a little dry-brush touch up and mud on clothes, I add a drop of Bestial Brown and a drop of Scorched Brown next to each other on a plate or something.

Dip the brush in between bos and mix them a little, then drybrush the mud for a nice finish and the clothes of the miniature to add dirt and weathering.

That tiger article is what made me start my Winter Camo Russ Company.

As I said, I'd like to make some more of this "Malca-Russ". And one will get a banner, of course!

I was asked how the "Malca-Russ" compares to the Leman Russ, sizewise. Unfortunately, I don't have Leman Russ here. It should be as high and nearly as wide as the Leman Russ but a little bit longer.

Nearly as wide as the Chimera, a little wider and longer. I made the mistake of not putting them directly side by side. I'll try to "borrow" a Leman Russ to pose for a comparison, soon. As I said, it should be of the same height and wide but a bit longer. I hope my opponents won't have a problem with that. I'm sure I can manage to measure in their favor if there's a questionable situation.

Without!!! Are you going to put a gap in the turret? to give it some height so that it looks like it can actually swivel instead of being mounted on top?

Keep the Track Guards.

With. Looks better and it makes more sense. Footsloggers can then sit on top without getting serious road rash on their butts.

Agh! Missed precious updates! Where have I been all this time? The latest banner bearer looks great, good posing there. Also live that tank, not sure exactly why but the design just appeals to me!
