Blow me! That is a swish force great axe! That is one hell of a nice paint job on Dante. The bags under his eyes are a nice touch...along with eye brows. I actually didn't realise how vampirey that head is until I've seen it painted, still think his hair is ace and at the height of fashion in Dalthus. The Red Widow is bad lady doing things like this to an Inquisitor. The detail on the two severed heads is amazing.

I am so looking forward to seeing Altas on Saturday and seeing just how bright he is.

Hex is still my favourite though.....just a nasty creepy little er er git.

Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday. Good luck with the Widow.

This last mini is wonderful, so much character in It

Loving the "axe", but I'm impressed by the trousers and black chest armor the most

Keep them coming, even slowly if this is the end result

OK Dante is just well I love it truly, what the hell happened you're painting skill has levelled up considerably lately

I have to point out a few things out:
1 The power axe is some nice blending work.
2 The combination of the dark armour with the light beige trousers works well.
3 The beastmen heads on his back have an almost speckled type effect to them (which you must tell how you did that).
4 Then basically all the rest.

Great work

Absolutely fantastic work. "Atlas" Jack is my pick of the bunch. Love the color and yet another original take on the Nurgle thingamy.

Yeah I was shocked as to how un-radioactive Atlas was in person.

Dante's face was something else entirely in person

Just catching up and checking things out. Atlas and Dante are excellent, though I can't find a comment or compliment that someone else has not already offered. Well done, and congrats.

Hello everyone, thanks for the comments! Again another long delay, I just discovered I can actually log on to here after setting my phone to accept cookies?! Duh!

Anyways not much to report of late or that you haven't heard from the other fine chaps. I never got round to snapping any finished pics of Widow before the games and all my mini are currently in the care of Mr. John Blanche. When I get them back I'll take some, she was rather rushed but I was pleased with the results considering the time scale.

So possibly another bash in Nov. I plan on trying to finish an additional two characters. Pitslave Boss: "The Iron Duke" & (after binning the old mini) a 3rd reworking of my "Spectre" character with less 'sniper' and more of a Corvo from the game "Dishonoured" feel about him.

So yeah cheers for ya continual support and comments

Cheers Skalk, thanks for the kind words! I've had a bit of a creative block of late but slowly easing back into things again now. Still yet to master the art of taking a really good quality pic though but hopefully soonish we may see a few professional shots of these rogues in a well known publication hehe so watch this space!

Haha Mate I wouldn't go that far LDD but thank you dude In my opinion if you're lacking in skill (like myself) then you just gotta have the patience to keep going over and over it 'till it's right Hence I never get much done! We'll have to see what the next one turns out like coz I've had a break from the brush for a while now :S

Yo! Hello gang!

I hope everyone's doing well! Had a bit of a mad year just gone and well hobby stuff was basically non-existent through-out it...

I was however, lucky enough to get to spend a day recently at WHW hanging out with legendary chums PDH, Bruticus, John Blanche & many other talented types so I thought it was a bit of a poor show not to bring along anything new?! So I cobbled these two together quickly...and being as this blog hasn't seen much action for a good long while I'd thought I'd slap 'em on here too!

Now then question for youz guys! I'm really keen to get back to Necromunda, after this jaunt down Inq 28mm lane...however I'm really unsure which gang to build next?

It has to be a 'House Gang' this time as the 'Outlanders' seem a little unbalanced and subject to a lot of rule changes and mucking about which annoys me! So I've narrowed it down to 3:

1.Goliath - I've got some great Man Hunt/Fallout/Borderlands inspired build ideas for these guys and not really seen a great custom version of these guys as yet to my knowledge. However if I'm honest, I don't really like their CC heavy play style! Also as Bruticus pointed out to me those original minis are some of the nicest in the Necromunda universe, so I'd def have my work cut out for me if I were to build these boys!
Spoiler:

2.Delaque - I love how these guys play on the board. Sneaky/Shooty awesomeness but I'll never be able to compete with the conversion skillz of German master of detail The venerable Mr. Baiyuan:http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/345040.page Also I stumbled across these the other day whilst researching how I'm make my own and I think I'd basically end up just ripping them off.
Spoiler:
It would still be a fun project though, I'd add my own twist to it naturally.

3.Van Saar - Finally this mob, stick to what ya know, first gang I collected for the game back in the '90's, again I like how they play. Shooty/Tech boys. I also like the concept (pinched from Baiyuan) that you could make them a company of up-hive mercs, sent down to the underhive on a mission of sorts. But again some wise-guy's already done a great job...Bruticus!
Spoiler:
Again that was pretty much how I was gonna make them, maybe with a bit of this business for a more merc feel...
Spoiler:

Who to choose?!

I like the assassin well enough, but the pitslave boss is just fantastic. Great use of bits, nicely disguised the origins of the head as well, just very inventive overall. He is full of character, quite Borderlands as you say and maybe a bit cartoony for my tastes, but you could perhaps give him a relatively gritty paint job. Handlebar moustache and buzzsaw arms, great. Makes me want to revist my pitslaves, they are easily the most fun conversions to make.

As for getting back to Necro, have you considered finishing your Scavvies? Not sure if you will have thought of this, but you've got a whole scavvy gang sat around unpainted. If you got started today you could have a game against Baiyuan's Delaques in a couple of decades.

I love the Goliath models, and those are the best painted ones I have seen, that guy has many more on his site. I like these ones too: http://www.coolminiornot.com/187096?browseid=8253863

But it depends on if you just want to paint or do conversions. I don't think Goliaths are in need of much converting but really need good paintjobs - tattoos etc. Both Delaques and Van Saar need lots of converting to make them look decent, although the Heresy gangers help with Delaque. I don't think plastic Delaque are viable which is a shame.

I would be interested in seeing slightly re-imagined Orlocks too. Definitely not made from Catachans, but perhaps using the waistcoat type chests from Empire Flagellants. They could share a lot of the aesthetic with Goliaths - tattoos, leather, etc.

Would be interesting to see a bit more of that 40k Gothic in Necromunda. Not sure how exactly though without overdoing it.

Well, not to add too much to your plate, but how about you try making one of each, and see which you like best/enjoy making best?

Oi! Cheeky git! Haha I know but we've talked about this before...I'm just really slow and fussy with painting...and to be honest I think I've kinda gone off my Scavvies a bit...(Don't tell 'em?!)

 Bruticus wrote:

Oh no Jake they bore the pants off me man...like playing humans in blood bowl?! I won't be touching those, maybe someone else might at some stage.

@ Malika2 - I just love kit-bashing/conversions so any Necromunda gang for me has to be a custom job...I like themed gangs, a strong visual theme in their build and in their paint job is a winner for me.

Monkey I'd love to but that's just not realistic right now, they'd all never get finished...if I at least set 'my goal' to build and complete one new gang, I could see that through to completion I think. Maybe one day I'll have one of each of those gangs made up...

I think Orlocks are only boring because of the models. I think you could do a whole new style of Orlock that was pretty cool - quite biker-y without being steroid abusers like Goliath, with some elements of miners/industrial workers. And no loin cloth sashes! I also think Escher would be great fun to make, but I still don't think the plastic parts are there for that project - it's one I have mulled over at great length.

Goliaths were my first gang (I made some horrible plastics from Catachans and Marauders for some reason) and I enjoy the way they play. With the Community rules they are a good gang, although Van Saar still have the edge.

I loved Baiyuan's hive-miners...he said they count as Orlock in his games...I would have gone for count as Goliath though myself, you gotta be tough-guy to work the mines right?!

I like your Goliath gang Jake, simple but effective bunch. I think if I did them they'd be way more OTT like proper comic book Batman style hench villians!

Dunno, maybe I should just dig out the Scavvies again...I spent fething ages on those lads...I just really don't like the rules for them now...puts me right off playing with them.

Well Anthony Case is redoing the Outlander rules so maybe the new version will be better. I quite like scavvies but I don't think they are as much fun as a house gang although my friend seems to love them. I think house gangs just have more variety in tactics while outlanders get a bit repetative. Pitslaves were the same.

Orlocks are tough, they have ferocity. They just aren't super muscled. My goliaths were not great, the real models are fantastic - a lot of the plastic muscled parts are just bad sculpts, like Catachans.

Brilliant stuff in here. My suggestion for which gang to chose would be based on which is most readily available and simplest to begin then work from there.

He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. Nice stuff, mate. I love the iron duke!

Also thanks for mentioning my crap.

Just in case it's of interest, we chose the miners to be Orlocks for gameplay reasons. The guys who played them were both fairly new to tabletop gaming and I didn't want them to make their first (frustrating) steps with a "do or die, all or nothing" gang. Melee isn't that much of an option in my experience.
Orlocks are much more balanced.
And as Brute said, Ferocity is a fearsome skill tree, especially if you use the community additions. The miners ignore wounds, are fearless, etc. etc. A scarred bunch of badasses. Tough as nails.
