Oh yes, the Truffle Dogs are painted! Looking good! And you're making good progress on the hobby bingo as well, the "starter set" square is one that I'm probably not claiming any time soon..

As for the 'nid schemes, I'm partial to the pink'n'blue, it's the most synthwave of them

The battleship looks oddly familiar.. Is it USS Massachusetts? I built one as a kid (a Revell 1:720 kit), at the beginning of my modeling journey. Didn't get painted either.

I've been absent from dakka a while and this blog has gotten delightfully strange in my absence.
As for your hive fleet, I vote green armor purple skin, with the added suggestion that you name it hive fleet joker and paint obnoxious clown make up around the grinning maws of your beasts.
Make the imperial xenologists wonder how they got those scars...

Can I change my vote to give fleet joker?

It’s cool that you found your dad’s battleship. Gotta love a bit of nostalgia. Will it be getting any paint?

Ok, seems I'm too late to the party, but would have picked the most loved color scheme too Maybe add a further layer of color by using bone color or black on the weapon?

And battleship looks cool. I remember doing a plane with my father decades ago, it also never got paint. I think he has still some other kits lying around at home that he never built/ will build. Might snag them from him

So this is not something i made, but it is related to my hobby, and i am excited about the fact that i found it. behold, the thing that got me into hobby stuff in the first place!

This is a ship my father made, before i was born. it was one of my most beloved toys as a kid (even though i was only allowed to touch it under the most CAREFUL supervision). I spent a long time just looking at it, and when i learned that my dad had made it himself, i was stunned and would eventually want to make my own! It's been missing for years, and it's obviously a bit battered, but finding it was like finding a long lost friend.

amazingturtles,

Looks like an IOWA class battleship.

Cheers,

CB

What a cool find! I'm happy that you were able to reconnect with an old model buddy. I know nothing about boats so I'm afraid I'm no help with IDs, so all I can say is that as far as battleships go, it looks pretty chonky!

Thanks! I admit i did cheat a little on the starter set what with going for one of the smaller available one... but it still counts so i win!

guys.... you might just end up making purple and green lose. I don't really like the joker! I never have really, it's probably a flaw in my geeky makeup but both the joker and batman just aren't my thing. the only versions i like are the lego versions.

Also thank you so much everyone in general! It's hard to express how happy it makes me that the strange little things i put up here are enjoyed.

Here's a quick thing that i put up elsewhere, not sure if i'll make anything more with these but they are ork planes, and are meant to be christmas orks.

also here is a shed!

with otter for size comparison. hmm.... one of the bingo squares is build and paint a scenery kit. Is this too tiny to count? Probably.

Orks + Christmas in tiny planes! So many boxes ticked for me! I do come across these little orky planes pretty regularly on Dakka and it amazes me I don't own any myself. I really should. But then maybe they look a bit larger scale than what I'm used to but you know, I've done Smirking now I should totally make UzKop's X-wing Dakkajet, and a tiny version at that would be absolutely my jam. If I can make the sea-duck from Talespin I can do that.
I wonder if you found Christmas decorations in the right scale could you add ork bits to make a squad of disguised Kommandos behind the lines in Santa's workshop?

Edit:Also, my dad had a small collection of models including an American aircraft carrier a Bismark and a Catalina flying boat and I can totally feel your love for that battleship as my reverence for those magical artifacts is still with me today. So cool, proper hobby torch passing stuff.

Christmas bombers look cool, hope they don‘t destroy the shed.
And with the otter next to the shed I can almost seeing ot sitting with a typewriter on the roof, Snoopy-style.

Thanks! Those are all fun ideas, the scale did surprise me a bit when i got them, i was expecting them to be a bit smaller for some reason. But I think you could pull off some really neat things given your sculpting skills!

And yeah, it's nice to still have those sorts of things around. My grandfather had some model trains, and i really would like to find his trains somewhere out there.

I have to admit that i came very close to painting it like snoopy's dog house.

Here's a little kit bash, i think the head is out of proportion to the body so i might replace it... on the other hand it seems a bit cartoony and charming to me. Time will tell! I'm putting together as many beasts and mutants and odd aliens as i can.

He might need a pet frog too, just in general.

I think the head looks pretty good as compared to the arms, the lower torso/legs might be a bit on the short side but if your mutants are consistently top-heavy then it's a creative choice! I like the feudal-world garb too. Helps to aesthetically bridge the beastman head to the shotgun he's holding.

Along with everything else, I especially love your otter models. Would you be willing to disclose where you procured them from?
I'd love to get a couple for my sister if they happened to still be available.

That's a cool beastman conversion. I don't think the proportions are off enough to be immediately noticeable. What is the body based on? Is that old bretonnia stuff?

I think you’re right turtles, the head gives it a cartoonish vibe, but definitely in a good way. I agree with Don too that you could make it in to the theme for these Beastmen

Yeah, the legs are a bits stubby seeming. Thank you, i wanted them to be a bit feudal looking!

Thanks, obviously i love them too. They come from mantic's kings of war figures, the naiads specifically. Each frame has one otter and one frog. I've managed to trade for some seperately obviously, but that's the origin of them. If you do pick some up i hope that your sister likes them, they're great little guys.

The body is from the oathmark humans set, which does have a bit of an old brett look. They're pretty good!

Yeah, he's an irritable looking fellow. Well, i would be too if i found out how the imperium treats innocent beast fellows!

So here's another one, same style, but more leaderly! (using gw's measure of leadership, ie: having a chainsword and a pistol)

Nice! They really are turning out well. I may have to pick up some of that oathmark stuff. I would like to make a "Battle of five armies" themed force but based around the old animated Hobbit movie. Thanks for the tip!

Another cool Beastman, and true to the large head theme. The human bodies work well as Beastmen from a feudal world, especially when paired with a good ol’ autopistol. Cool stuff turtles!

Thanks! the oathmark stuff is pretty nifty, solid on its own and with a lot of conversion potential too! Also, that was one of my favorite movies growing up, i'd love to see that army.

Much thanks! I'm glad that the big ol heads are working.

Oh yes, that part is very vital. I am missing one of the other vital parts though: a giant hat

Heck yeah, beast friends team assemble! Also thank you!

So it's been a while since we saw a non chaos otter! Got to get back to basics!

Here we see a friendly otter helping a marine decide what ammo is best to use! Or something like that....

Very cool model. Love the mix of mkIII and MkIV plate. Also, you could easily use ammo otters as a proxy unit for armorium cherubs.

Everything is better with otters It really looks like the marine is seeking his council. And as someone who has sat through a lot of episodes of Paw Patrol the last years seeking counsel from an animal doesn't even surprise me anymore.

I saw a real otter yesterday. Just thought you'd like to know. It was swimming at the time so I can't say if it was plotting the downfall of humanity or the destruction of the Galaxy, I can only assume it might have been.

Thanks everyone! Normally i want to answer everyone but i'm super tired right now so just know that you're all amazing and your comments keep me going!

theCrowe, the thing about otters is that they can do both. They're perilous creatures.

Total or available to use? Total i'm not sure, but I've got 8 left that i haven't used for anything yet.

And yes, I need more.

In the meantime, here's a kitbash of an imperial guard! I've got a vague idea of an imperial guard army, they come from the same place as the void otters i think.

I've got to fill in her neck, but otherwise I'm fairly happy with her.
