Hey everyone, I'm new to 40k, although i've been playing Fantasy Warhammer for some years now. Now i am trying to decide what army to choose, and the one that appeals to me the most is Necrons...which could be a problem considering how out of date they are... So the question is: are the Necrons worth their money in the 5th edition and even more importantly, is there an update somewhere in the horizon for them? Thanks everyone!

I guess it all depends on what you want from the game? are you only looking to collect? what about gaming? tournaments? or just to convert? there are plenty of armies out there which are great in some respect, not so great in others.

Gaming and collecting are my interests, and from time to time I do dabble in the conversions department. Tournaments don't interest me (not yet anyway!

). So as far as gaming and collecting goes are Necrons worth the shot?

Crons should be next for an update (after tomb kings). Their current battleforce box is arguably the best valued battleforce.

As for gaming, they can be good when used right, but can also be unforgiving.

I would hold off on the Necrons...they are definately long overdue for an update and their has been rumblings about necron revision. Just hold of buying them for now

True, earlier this evening i was comparing points value with a friend who has decided on Tyranids. His battleforce barely reaches 500 points while the Necrons easily get 800 points with theirs.

The Necron 'dex is outdated, but can still put up a fight if you know what you're doing. I would say to get the battleforce and a 'dex and play. If they get updated soon, that's just a bonus!

To my mind, the best thing you can do now is start necrons, even more because they appeal to u. In a few 3-4 months a new 'dex is on the horizon which means: New models!(For ur collecting and painting) and a brand new shiny codex to use them and actually cause some pain!( which is now pretty hard, we necrons are the most weak codex). If you start now you gonna get friendly with the necrons, their fluff, their modells, decide on ur painting scheme,perhaps buy a battleforce or two or read some novel (I suggest FOD, it is amazing cuz its got things about the necrons we dont know and some new units the codex is about to bring) and when the dex comes out you will buy ur army and be awsome

Also perhaps play a game or two and see how the 40k mechanics work and be ready for the new dex

I have already got a battleforce. Wanted to get it now before they changed it cuz in my opinion it was way too good to overlook. With the current codex the battleforce has more than 800 points worth of models inside! Sure all threads we've both been following show that points are going to change, but still I think it's a good deal. 3 Destroyers? I mean really?
