Seeing as 40k has virtually taken over my life, I thought it was about time to join the forum.

It all started eighteen months ago....being an RPG gamer I've been surrounded by GW staffers, wargamers, minis, but never really took my fancy. Then my b/f ran his favourite tabletop rpg. Rogue Trader. Played an ex-Imperial Guardsman archmilitant, did the subsequent small amount of research. Which turned into more research. Which turned into reading Guard novels. And resulted in a friend giving me my first squad to happily sit down and try my hand at assembling and painting myself that Christmas. Now I keep trying to force myself not to buy more until I've assembled and painted the moutainous piles of unopened boxes and painted the city's worth of assembled terrain.

I even managed to get the girl who sits next to me at work to start collecting and playing her beloved Space Wolves (though partly in revenge to her ex-partner who collected but never played a single game).

Mwahahahaha.

So soon I'm taking a week off work for leave just to unwind and destress from being so strung out.

And I shall spend this week swearing and crying and screaming as I try to get the effects I want on the terrain and happily gluing my fingers together putting together that which I have unassembled.

Ah. Bliss.

If only my boyfriend knew the monster he'd unleashed....who am I kidding? He just would've run Rogue Trader sooner.

Well, I was playing Doom when I was ten (an ex was so miffed that his g/f was better at Doom than him - a guy!) and have been an rpg, larp and ccg gamer for about thirteen years. Gluing and painting models instead of trying to make costumes when you can't sew - so much easier!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Limbo - it doesn't matter, mine are grey 'after' I paint them, too.

Le sigh.

HAHA! Nice to see another true gamer enjoying the game!

The models got me into the game but the fluff solidified it for me! After reading the CMS 2nd ed codex over and over I just new this game was for me! (that was back when the codex was 1/2in thick and included all sorts of goodies)

Welcome to Dakka! Hope you have fun~!

With the terrain, it's all about what you have at your disposal! It is to my belief that, with enough effort and attention, anyone can achieve the sort of paintjobs they love (but not eight year olds or "special people", sorry guys. actually, sometimes special people ). the real comes when you run out of a certain colour you need, that my friend is a b tch. So i would like to tell you that BEFORE you sit down and get immersed in the hobby, restock your glue, check your paint and make sure your brush is big enough for the terrain you're painting! oh, also make sure most of your windows are open, it SUCKS to get a glue headache Even though i've never had one i know you fell really high and it probably screws up a giant portion of your brain.\

I love to know the background first as well! although i would LOVE to read some of the 40k books, i don't usually buy stuff online and i have only just found a place who stocks them but ATM i'm broke.... .....

Monk1junk1, it wasn't glue that was the problem (assembled ages ago, just not painted), it was the bronchitis that meant I couldn't hold a brush for two days and running out of undercoat half way through a building (four cans of undercoat lying around, all empty).

I stuck the background on the Dakka Fiction

I do have a question though: In my profile on the sidebar, it always says 2 images, even though I have uploaded eleven images. And it says 1 vote, but none of my images have any votes on them. Post count number ticks over though. I'm confooosed.
