Welcome to the regimental log of the 197th Bataviran. Here everything can be discussed that cannot be discussed in the recruitment thread.
Trolling is punished by the commissars...
Some regimental traditions:
Dead friends and lost comrades are tattooed on the bodies of the still living friends.
There are Bataviran veterans that have over hundred of these tattoes on their bodies.
Kill records:
"According to the Batavirans, actions speak louder then words. It's better to do ten good deeds to the Emperor then praise him a hundred times. Of course the Batavirans want to show how good their faith is, how loyal they are and that is why they keep track of their kills." And what is more fun then seeing your character grow and packing up kills? I started counting from the battle against Tyranids.
There are a couple of categories:
B. F. = Battles fought, L. I. = light infantry killed, H. I. = heavy infantry killed, M. C. = Monstrous creatures killed, L. T. = light tanks destroyed, Ta. = tanks destroyed, S. C. = special character. To. = total points.
Shortened to: B. F. | L. I. | H. I. | M. C. | L. T. | Ta. | S. C. | To.
Light infantry gives one point, heavy infantry (Elites and commanding troops) give two points, MC give four points, light tanks (skimmers, fast tanks) give 3 points, tanks give 5 points.
Special character give 4 points.

Apply the following: -2 if there is still a squadmember alive, +1 if the unit is destroyed or has fled, -1 if the game was a draw or we won the game, -1 if a friendly unit was within 6''.

New battlereport: We played a small game of combat patrol. On a 4’by 4’board. Deployment was spearhead and we played annihilation. My opponent was also IG. I forgot the camera, so no pictures… (I will bring it next time!)
I used this list:
CCS: 85
krak, meltagun x 2, meltabombs, vox
PCS: 40
AC
IS: 120
melta, commissar, pw x 2, meltabombs
IS: 80
melta, vox, pw, meltabombs
IS:75
melta, pw, vox
My opponent:
Vets: 155
melta x 3, chimera
Vets: 155
melta x 3, chimera
Sentinel: 40
AC
Sentinel: 40
AC
I got the first turn and my opponent failed to seize.
The little black hooks are cover.
“We ‘re send out to patrol the city, because it was said that mutants had set up camp in this area. We ‘re allowed to engage if possible. When we saw the mutants, our commander ordered us forward.”
1th turn: CCS & blob run forward, due a lucky roll, I can “movemovemove” twice on the blob and run 13 inches! The blob is now in cover. PCS fails to hurt the sentinel.
“Together with the other sergeants and the commissar, we ordered our men forward. Demitrix Nulstovsky immediatly started yelling curses at the enemy.”
My opponent drives towards me with his chimera’s and sentinels.
The CCS goes down to one meltagunner and a company commander with 1 wound.
The PCS loses one guy and the blob loses one guy.
“The mutants got into their vehicles and the sentinels opened fire on our commanders.”
2th turn: Everything moves forward again and the CCS destroys chimera 1
The PCS shakes sentinel 1 and the blob destroys the other chimera. (7 veterans get out.)
The CCS charge the veterans in close combat and manage to survive.
“Our commander bravely threw himself and Bryon Reinne into combat and tied up those bloody mutants.”
My opponent fires his sentinel at my PCS and cause them to flee.
Veterans2 kill 3 in the blob and charge, killing 2 more. (Blob down to 24)
The blob strikes back and kills all but four veterans.
Veterans1 kill the CCS in close combat.
“Our company commander got beaten down in combat by those mutants and the sentinels opened fire on the platoon commander. Then we got attacked by the mutants. We got into close combat with them and I managed to strike some down. When I looked back I saw see our platoon commander fleeing away… That coward, I hope they find him back and make a nice servitor out of him. ”
3th turn: My blob wipes out Veterans2. I consolidate into cover.
“Those mutants were no match for our glorious soldiers. We killed all of them. The mutants look better when they are on the sharp side of a bayonet than walking around.”
My opponent fires with everything on my blob and charges with the other veterans, killing 3. (Blob down to 21)
“The mutants fired at us, but we kept the men motivated.”
4th turn: I get into 12’’ of veterans1, open fire and kill all but one. The last veteran flees.
“We moved closer to the enemy and fired with our lasguns! It’s nice to see how easily they die due our fire. ”
My opponent moves his sentinels away and fires at my blob. (19 left)
“This battle was almost over. We had wiped out the mutants except for those two bloody machines. Yet they tried to make a run for it.”
5th turn: I move towards one sentinel and manage to stun.
“We decided to go after one of the sentinels. While we ran after it, some men opened fire and one of the meltagunners managed to shake one of the fleeing machines.”
My opponent kills one IG with his sentinels. (18 left)
“Knowing it was well out of range, the fleeing sentinel fired at us before he continued to flee. ”
6th turn: I destroy sentinel1.
“The sentinel that couldn’t get away, was blown up by our brave meltagunners.”
The last sentinel keeps distance and fires at my blob and I go-to-ground. 1 IG dies. (17 left)
“The last sentinel kept moving away, so we decided to lay upon the ground, waiting for it to have vanished.”
7th turn: I keep laying on the ground.
“We patiently waited until the fleeing machine was gone.”
My opponent fires on my blob again killing one more. (16 IG left)
“The machine fired one more shot and killed one of our curious soldiers. After that the machine moved out of sight and we didn’t see it again.
Later when we moved away, we found that damned machine. It got stuck in some pool and the driver was impaled with a stick. “Greetings from the 222th Catachan” was carved into the stick.
This was a good battle and good for the morale of our men.
May the Emperor smile on you.
Sergeant Sam Aas, first platoon, fourth company, 197th Bataviran.”
In the end I won: I think I was really lucky this game, because my opponent couldn’t use his heavy flamer. If he did, I would be in a lot more trouble.
Heroic persons: The blob squad. I can probably say that they won this game almost singlehandedly.
If it weren’t for the sergeants, the commissars and the meltagunners, I wouldn’t have won this game. And let’s not forget the unnamed heroes that made up the majority of the blob squad.
Also, let’s not forget Bryon Reinne, the last meltagunner in the CCS that blew up a chimera.
Casualties:
CCS: One of the two meltagunners died during the attack. The rest is lightly wounded and will be back in action again soon.
PCS: Here one meltagunner died, as well as one of the AC loaders.
Infantry squads: 3 dead soldiers, the rest will be back in action in a couple of days.

Bataviran 197th/222nd Catachan "Iron Wolves", arrogant, dedicated and ruthless!
Captain Detlev Vordon, regimental commander.
Colonel Vladimir Russki, regimental commander 222nd Catachan.
Hazah!!! Praise be to the God Emperor of mankind!! May the bright light of his noble spirit fill the galaxy and burn away all darkness cast by those heretics and xenos who dare to defy his untold power! Rejoice comrades! For tonight we dine in the light of our glorious victory! (Sneaks away from the main body of soldiers and rolls up his sleeve, useing the edge of his axe he carves a thin line into his skin). There, another kill to be remembered. . . hmm. . . that makes a total of 11. . . sigh. . . nowhere near enough. . . I hope the others are doing better (Rolling his sleeve back up, Demetrix returns to the edge of the crowd of soldiers, and contents himself with listening to the banter between soldiers)
“Finally, we received word from our regimental commander major Falkenhorst. We had to advance in front of the army and take the tower ahead of them. There was an important communication set up in there and if we kept that position we would have a large advantage in the following campaign. If that wasn’t possible, then we had to prevent the Tyranids from attacking our flank. Sounded like an easy task, although it disturbed us that we would be under another company commander instead of our usual commander…”
We deployed up to 12’’ and my opponent went first. I failed to seize. We played with two objectives, marked with the green circle.
At the start, the field looked like this:
He kept his Trygon and Hive tyrant in reserve and I kept Marbo and the Stormtroopers in reserve.
1th Turn:
My opponent spawns 13 little Termagaunts and the Tervigon is empty. Then he moves them forward. So that means my opponent will has 3 troop choices and I have 4.
“So after marching for a couple of hours, we arrived on our destination. We had send out the Stormtroopers to scout ahead and Marba, although none of them had reported back. That was quite disturbing. Another setback was to see that a large Tyranid was already sitting near the communications tower. But the worst was that some Termagaunts noticed us and immediately came towards us.”
I move forward and make a run movement because I haven’t brought any long-range firepower. I keep one platoon squad hidden.
“We had to take the tower one way or another, so we went forward.”
2th Turn:
My opponent his Trygon appears and he moves everything forward.
“While we were running forward, a large Tyranid appeared out of the ground! He just climbed out of the sand and started firing at us.”
I move forward with one PCS, the rest of my army remains stationary.
Marbo appears and throws a democharge. He manages to kill 7 Termagaunts. Opening fire with a platoon I kill 3 more gaunts. There are 3 gaunts left.
One of the two platoon command squads is still in cover.
“There was some confusion on the battle field. Marba was already near the tower and she threw a democharge, killing a large part of the Termagaunts that came at us. The soldiers opened fire on the Termagaunts while others fired at the Trygon.”
3th Turn
My opponent his Hive Tyrant appears and together with the Trygon they open fire, they kill 1 Guardsman. The termagaunts get back in cover. The 3 remaining Termagaunts attack Marbo.
Marbo kills all of them and the Termagaunts kill Marbo.
“Marba struggled with the surviving Termagaunts while the rest attacked us… When suddenly a large flying creature appeared out of the sky! It just flew into the battle!”
I move my platoon command squads forward and a blob squad. The other blob squads open fire and hurts the Trygon (4 wounds remaining).
“One way or another, we had to get that tower and I went forward with my squad. Most of the soldiers still fired at the larger creatures and wounded them.”
4th Turn:
My opponent moves his Termagaunts towards his objective and his Tervigon a bit forward.
The Trygon and Hive Tyrant get in close combat with my army and inflict a lot of casualties.
“The flying creature and the Trygon attack our soldiers and inflicted a lot of wounded and casualties.”
The storm troopers arrive and put two wounds on the Tervigon.
The PCS’s move forward and my blob gets wiped out in close combat. (I forgot that I had summary execution!)
“The storm troopers finally did something, they were probably hiding ot get the best shot and they fired on the large Tervigon. While that happened, our troops broke and were run down by the large Tyranid.”
5th Turn:
(The landing field is removed for the sake of the photo’s.)
My CCS gets wiped out by the Hive Tyrant. (I forgot I had an inv. save on my commander!)
The other blob gets assaulted by the Trygon. I take some casualties and I inflict 2 more wounds. (2 remaining)
My storm troopers get slaughtered by Termagaunts.
“The storm troopers chose the wrong time to appear, because the Termagaunts immedialty attacked them and overran them. But that wasn’t the only thing, our commander also died.”
My PCS’s rushes forward and my commissar, in the remaining blob, kills the Tervigon!
When I need to roll to wound I roll a double 6.
“Still I urged my squad to go forward when the large Trygon fell down. The commissar had climbed on his back and driven his power sword through the back of it’s skull, an action worthy of such a great man.”
6th Turn:
The hive tyrant assaults my remaining blob, killing everything besides the commissar.
“However as soon as this creature went down, that flying thing attacked the squad. He just smashed his way through them…”
All or nothing, I sprint forward with everything. I manage to get one of my PCS’s near the objectives. None of us holds an objective and we contest the same so it’s a draw.
“Despite all this, I charged forward with my squad. We managed to sneak into the tower and close the door. I took a look around and all the equipment was damaged. Everything was broken, twisted or scattered throughout the room. So we went to the roof and we could already see the rest of the regiment arriving in the distance.
We prevented the Tyranids from assaulting our regiment and we had the tower, however we couldn’t fix it and we lost many a great soldiers. Atleast we crushed many of those bugs!
May the Emperor smile on you,
Lieutenant Arntsz "Suv" Suberiv, first platoon, 197th Bataviran”
Afterthought: So… I really need to learn my army better. I forgot the invulnerable saves, although not a disaster, it still was important.
And how could I forget summary execution?! The most important rule of a commissar… If the second blob lasted longer, the entire game would have turned out different.
(wo)Man of the match: It's got to be the commissar, that killed a Trygon on his own.
Still it was a very good game and I managed to buy a box of 2th edition Cadians and a Wyrd model for 18,- euro. Just wondering, but would this lady be suitable as a priest or as a commissar? Or would she be a better sergeant?
Casualties:
CCS: All died, but it wasn't our usual commander.
Stormtroopers: One of the stormtroopers died, the others survived.
One of the blob's has only wounded and no big problems.
The other blob has no problems at all and will be back in action next time.

born on the hive world of steelfall larry made his living like many other children: as a juve ganger, though unlike others he sold his incredible skills with technology to the highest bidder until age twelve, where he hacked into a freighter's main computer and stowed away to batavaria where he worked as with the mechanicus and computerized his left eye into an outwardly human but truly augumentic organ. soon though he joined the imperial guard as a trooper but at the recommendation of the magos he who was his former boss he was initiated as a stormtrooper into the 197th not three days ago

Vordon: I'll point it out to Major Falkenhorst, our regimental commander!
Maybe he'll send us on another patrol.
Also, we never asumed you have been wiped out, only one Stormtrooper died.
Perhaps you should see one of our medicae? That Tyranid did hurt you on the head after all...
(As for all of you, maybe I have a little game tomorrow, but I ain't sure since I have a lot of exams this and the following week, thus no games.)

A slight problem... GW hasn't delivered my Stormtroopers yet. (It was around two weeks ago...)
Correction: They haven't even send it away. My FLGS says that at best, I'll have them around saturday, however it can be later.
So I cannot paint them yet.
I'm sorry...

Captain Detlev Vordon, regimental commander.
Colonel Vladimir Russki, regimental commander 222nd Catachan.
I was thinking about introducing medals into the regimental log.
A couple of examples:
Medals:
Iron eye: Get a total of 5 kills.
“Honing your training in boot camp, you know what to do on the battlefield.”
Bronze eye: Get a total of 25 kills.
“You are experienced in combat and accustomed to your weapon.”
Silver eye: Get a total of 75 kills.
“As an expert with your weapon, you know the exact capabilities and where to aim.”
Iron tank hunter: Destroy 5 tanks (Light or normal).
“Upon the field of battle, you don’t flinch for a hostile tank.”
Bronze tank hunter: Destroy 15 tanks (Light and normal).
“You have destroyed quite a number of tanks, you know where to aim and you know when to fire. ”
Silver tank hunter: Destroy 30 tanks (Light and normal).
“Destroying many tanks has helped us achieve many victories, that’s why you are awarded with this medal.”
Iron monster hunter: Kill 5 Monstrous creatures.
“Bringing down five of these monsters isn’t easily, that’s why we give you this medal.”
Bronze monster hunter: Kill 15 Monstrous creatures.
“You’ve brought down a lot of monstrous creatures, helping us achieving victory once more!”
Silver monster hunter: Kill 30 monstrous creatures.
“A large monster is attacking you? Just hand you your weapon and you will fix it.”
How do they sound? Cheesey? Stupid? Boring?
If you guys like it, I can make some more as well as some pictures for them.

Try coming up with some more creative names, something that isn't to repetitive or generic, I know it's hard, but try anyway, you never know what you might come up with. Instead of using Iron Bronze and Silver for example, you could use mundanus, normal (just don't put anything), and maxima or perfecta, that way it sounds a lot cooler.
Also some ideas for new medals:
The Ribbon of Crimson: Awarded to a Commisar who manages to keep his unit in line (When his/her squad fails its morale then passes thanks to the Commisars reroll)
The Master's Cross: Awarded to an officer who shows a fine example of leadership on the battlefield (When he rolls inspired tactics upon giving an order)
