Subject: Eldar - should I bother with magnetising Bright Lances, Starcannons?

Fellow wargamers
I'm at a point where I am magnetising my weapons on the Eldar tanks that I own.
Should I bother magnetising the Bright Lances, and Starcannons?
Shuriken Cannons and Eldar Missile Launchers fall into a similar category, but slightly more useful than Bright Lances...
I know Scatter Lasers are a must, so I will be magnetising them. I'm just trying to prioritise my model building for maximum utility.

EML and shuriken cannons in my limited eldar experience are not used as much as lances and scatter lasers.
If you are magnetizing the mount, you might as well have scatter lasers/lances/starcannons magnetized. I would consider EML and shuriken cannons non-necessary, magnetize them if you feel like it.

Thanks for the quick reply!
I will get around to magnetising all of them, I am just working out which would be most useful to magnetise first

Are you talking about wave serpents or falcons?
EMLs are a great loadout for falcons, but not for wave serpents.
Bright lances are okay on wave serpents, but not falcons.
I personally am not a fan of shuriken cannons on the turret of any Eldar tank, but some people like them. I pretty routinely put the underslung cannon on wave serpents.
I haven't seen a star cannon anywhere in an Eldar army since the release of the current codex reduced them from 3 shots to 2.

You should only magnetize them if you feel like doing alot of experimenting, or your worried about a new codex invalidating your old build. In the case of the latter.
The eldar weapons are also easy enough to "break" off and remount if necessary.

I remember a local player mounting mass shuriken cannons because they were the cheapest, on everything (including war walkers). I have lots of wave serpents but two falccons on the way in, so will have three falcons.
I also have 4 vypers to fit out, but they're more for fluff than serious play.
My current falcon is one of those first edition ones that only came with a scatter laser; hopefully I can salvage the housing from another weapon to make it a little more hot-swappable.
It's a shame starcannons got nerfed that hard. Probably all the MEQ fanboys having a cry.
Thanks for the thoughts guys, still thinking about it.
Fitting all the tanks together will be a big project... need to prioritise so I can use them for games as quickly as possible.

The reason I'm not a fan of shuriken cannons as the primary gun on any Eldar tank is that you have to close to 24" to shoot. There are just too many things that can shoot back at that range. 24" is one of the most common ranges for cheap secondary antitank weapons (multimelta, plasma gun, assault cannon) in the most common armies (marines) in the game.
For example, just this last weekend I was playing my space marines against an Eldar player who had done all shuricannons on his serpents. So in order to shoot at my rhinos, he had to close to within 24", which is also the range of the multimelta that the guys in the rhino have. So he wound up trading his str6 shots with my str8, AP1 shots. The final score? I killed at least one, maybe two wave serpents with multimelta fire while he got, I think, one rhino--in a KP game which I eventually won.
(Not to mention that he couldn't really approach my Multimelta dreads at all with their effective range of 30")
If he'd had scatterlasers instead, I wouldn't have been able to touch him with my non-move-and-shoot multimeltas or my dread multimeltas. Plus he probably would have shot down more of my speeders than he was able to with the cannons and the fact that my speeders were able to stay out of his range quite a bit.

I'm a fan of the Eldar Missile Launcher myself and tend to take a whole bunch of them and not really that many Bright Lances at all. The reason being as you get the added bonus of versatility. The only reason I can see the point of taking the Bright Lances over it is for the more heavier armour like the Land Raider. Generally for every 2-3 EML I take 1 BL.
As for the Meltas, Wave Serpents shouldn't really be all too afraid of them if you're transporting the correct units to deal with it. The built in shield helps, but I still wouldn't bring them in too close to enemy units anyway. Generally zooming around with Star Engines and the Eldar Missile Launcher does it for me.

The only options I ever use ar the EML, Scatter laser and shuriken cannon. The others are really overpriced for how well they perform, If I was you I wouldn't magnetizing the BL or star cannon until either 6th ed comes out, or Eldar get a new dex.

If i can, i'll take scatter lasers on everything.
Enough S6 shots can deal with AV10-11 rather easily, against AV12 you can get sides shots or simply suppress the vehicle. Av13 is generally weak to side shots (preds)
For AV14... firedragons.
I've also had decent luck with outflanking walkers against vehicle, even if shooting fails, 9 S5 attacks on (generally) rear AV10 can get lucky.

I always put shuri cannons on dragon wagons. This is because they need to be kept cheap, and their primary duty is to shuffle dragons around. Lets face it, dragons need to be up close and personal, no sense paying a premium for extra range on their transport On Troop Transports Scatter Lasers- go to weapon of choice Missile- Good if I don't have enough AV12 coverage in a list Bright Lance- I take these on my troop serpents if I'm only running a single squad of dragons for whatever reason. (I like to casually play with Banshees, what can I say)

Shuriken cannons are amazing for their cost. Just put them on things you know are going to get close - wave serpents for example.
Also, three shuiken cannon War Walkers for only 120 points? That's preposterously cheap. 18 S6 shots or you can get a single Wraithlord with less than half that.

Should magnetize every weapon possible. You never know what a new edition change will bring. Magnets are your friend.
