I got into an argument with another player about the value of orbital relay, and, in the heat of the argument, may have overstated my opinion of it's value.
Anyway... in one week, I've got to bring my orbital relay-based army to fight his mystery army.
This list is meant as a delivery device for 5 orbital relay strikes a turn. I have 1 week to tweak it.
2000 points
Brother Captain w/Orbital Relay - 200
Grand Master w/ Orbital relay - 225
10x GKSS, 2xPsycannon, Psybolt, Rhino, MCDH- 290
10x GKSS, 2xPsycannon, Psybolt, Rhino, MCDH- 290
10x GK Interceptor Squad, 2xPsycannon, Psybolt, MCDH - 300
5x GK Purgation Squad, 4x Psycannon, MCDH, with Razorback+TLLC 260 (defensive line)
3x Techmarine with Orbital Relay - 420
All Squads are deployed out of vehicles, split into combat squads, and form an expanding ring around my orbital relay core.
The rhinos and razorbacks become houses for the techmarines.
The Interceptors become scoring units OR scout shunt into opponent's back line to cause damage and draw fire.
The Purgation squad is the last line of defense for the tech marines.
Thoughts?

If the orbital strikes hit, they can be devastating.
Its a different kind of GK army, keep it.

Servo skulls, don't they help your scatter rolls?
It would really do a difference if you could include some.
1D6 scatter - BS will score a hit almost every time

Orbitals always scatter the full 2d6", no reduction for BS and (arguably) that trumps the servoskull reduction too.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Yeah, full 2d6 scatter. If we were being fluffy about it, i'd say you reduce your scatter by your unit's leadership as you have to call it in as precisely as possible. Pure silliness.
Funny list, would love to see it in action.

Also, its a shooting attack made by a model. So, the opponent still gets a Cover save, when applicable. Keep that in mind. Also, the Lance is a small Blast, thus very prone to missing.
A guy at my shop tried this and it is just not reliable. A smart opponent can just spread out and negate most of your strikes.

I got to playtest a 2250 version of this list today. First of all, the lance small markers are amazing, thanks to the notation that if any part of the marker, not just the center, is over the vehicle, then it's a full strength hit... 2/5 of the strikes are spot on, considering that I have 5 per round, that's 10 accurate 10-1 lance small markers which do not require LOS and have unlimited range. Not quite as reliable as a squad of broadsides, but more psychologically devastating.

If it's working for you... good luck! I hope you win your little wager.
But this seems entirely too unreliable to me... and I'm a Daemons player!!

Yea, the full scatter, small blast, and whatnot make it so unreliable. I wouldn't want to base an army around that as a core concept and in GKs, why take point inefficient stuff with already low numbers? Just not my deal.
Also, no LOS needed, but that means they get cover saves - don't forget. So, for a vehicle they will get a 3+, since you can't actually see it.

Cover saves from smoke and such also...
The hardest part is just keeping the OSRs alive. The GM and BC are pretty tough, but can still be ID'ed, the techmarines just have the AV11 candy coating.
I'm still trying to figure out how to optimize for their protection. If I attach the GM and BC to squads, that's wounds, but then those squads are immobile and essentially benched until the fight comes to them, which in a typical GK list with a low model count, is crippling.
The really big fear is Outflank. The warpquake protects me from deepstrike threats; but outflanking units can just walk right up to my dudes and eat them.
I was thinking, if I lose the BC for Coteaz, and stick him in a chimera with a couple of monkeys and some MM Servitors, his out of sequence shooting attack might discourage walk-ons, but that's an expensive answer to a cheap question, that weakens my OSRs by 20%.
I also don't want to start down the slippery slope of removing OSRs in exchange for guns.
It's really hard to math-hammer OSR. I tried to MH a razorback with a 5 man tac squad to see if I could wipe out the squad in one turn. Turns out, it only happens about 20% of the time. Most of the time, there are still 3 marines standing. However, heavy vehicles and GeQs give up their points really easily, except now my head hurts.

Either lose the purgator squad for a squad of purifiers with 4x psycannons or outfit the purgators with 4x incinerators.

Drop the Brother Captain for Karadread IMO. He still has the relay and can even use it on your own guys. That and he provides morale help to keep everyone in the fight longer.
