I am going to be building an entry for the orky vehicle comp and I need some advice?

I don't have a lot of space so I need to find tiny electricals such as flashing LED's and motors, as small as possible if my fellow crazy dakka peeps could supply me with some links I will post my work as soon as I Have something done.

heres everything I bought the other day... brass tube and copper tube for the structure to space out the skeleton on when I get it back, grain of rice sized light bulbs, wire and styrene strips... K.S.Models in Stevenage is a treasure trove of bits and pieces plus they're doing 50% off all games workshop stuff at the moment...

You should see a tiny yellow lightbulb in the palm of my hand I have 15 of these total for the project and possibly some LED's blinky colored lights in the cockpit anyone?

Here's a very rough mock up of the scale of the main fusilage and wings, the tabacco tin in the middle is the main body and the rulers each side are the wings, Ish.

Here's a bad photo of the autocad file that I drew up for the skeletal structure of the bomber

I'm going to string together a bunch of these 3V batteries to make some 12V or 9V power for everything

What I need help with is a couple of low rpm electric motors for the front of the jet engines I want those bladey things spinning and sharp/pointy.

I can't see the pictures on the preview so I have copied and pasted the shortcut link to the gallery just incase it dosen't work

This looks like it will be interesting. And to get the pictures from the gallery onto here you copy and paste the URL from forums box below the image on the right onto the posts you are writing. just click preview on the posts on you have done this to check what the finished post will look like. hope this helps

To change the heading, you have to edit the heading of the first post. That is the one that shows up on the P&M Blog list.

Looking forward to seeing some progress!

Warmill are odviously very busy fellows at the moment so they haven't got back to me yet with a rough quote, tonight when I get home from work I am going to send them the completed autocad file for the bomber for them to cut....

I hope to have some progress as soon as I get the pieces back from them.

Anyone got any idea where to get a tiny low rpm electric motor from????

Update warmill got back to me at the weekend (yeah I know I should have updated earlier) so the rough quote was around £15-£20 and they think they should be able to lasercut it later this week.

Why is all the money gone, Why is the money always gone. I seem to be broke at all the worst times anyway another fortnight and I get paid again and Warmill can bill me for the laser cutting job... so soon my loyal followers soon,,,,.

Very interesting! I can not say that I know anywhere that sells small motors. However, I do know a company that sells flashing LED bulbs (and other cool stuff!)

No problem I only have 15 bulbs and a shed load of LED's that went missing when i resigned from my last modelmaking job about three years ago which may or may not have been ruined by my leaky garage... but flashy strobe lights are perfect... Now where all the money gone again?

Alright alright I know it's been ages and I still haven't made any significant progress. I'm sorry guys however my fevered little mind has been working and I have a question to ask of thee my fellow dakkernaughts....

Do any of you fancy building a 3d model of a couple of orky jet engines to fit inside my ork bomber? size approzimatly 30mm max diameter by 100mm length? preferably with a compartment inside at least 24.5mm in diameter and 23mm in depth with screw fit end cover (probably use the exaust as the cover part which needen't be less than 30mm diameter? I am going to attemp this myself however I have never had much success with 3d modeling so the results might be a bit "Mehh"

An update with actual stuff going on... Zomg! right so the parts arrived a few days ago and yesterday I got home from work and sorted out the pieces and did a mock assembly. then I sat back and thought "I really should do some work on autocad and quickly send another tiny file to warmill to fix the problems with the design here but then I thought it would take ages so what the hell. so here's some of the pictures I took.

as you can see the big piece right there is the same as some of the cut outs which are tiny on the MDF sheet. Warmill were kind enough to send me the tiny version aswell as the proper sized one. so two grot bombers you say????

right this stage I had already started glueing it all together the wing is placed for photo purposes only and the aerofoils are pushed together so that the don't get stuck to stuff whilst the superglue was drying, now it's dry they will be moved out toward the skeleton and then covered with polystyrene.

Top down image the nose is at the bottom left and tail section is top right. the aerofoils are still not in the right position.

Looking good there! I could sort of see what you were going to be doing from cutting the parts out but I was still some way off! What was the problem with the design you needed fixing?

well I would have liked to make the main fusalage a bit wider so it would be worth while putting models and crew inside plus some doors for the crew to get in and out might have been a good idea. Ohhh and the wing sections, I cut the backs off the main sections when I should have left them in place to seperate the areofoils.

Progress has been very slow at the moment as the money has all gone away... but payday is this thursday and i should have the funds to buy the rods and tubes to finish the sketeton. I have found and ourchased a couple of 300rpm electric motors and some zephyr missile launchers from kromlech.

I have started to skin the wings however it's a long process very fiddley and I can't close it up because I can't finish the wiring untill I have a second rod in the wing....

Well payday has arrived and I have spent the last couple of nights up until about 04:00AM and a fair amount of progress has been made. I have soldered the connectors into the wing mounts to get electricity to the lights in the wing tips, I've added bulbs elsewhere including bomb bay and tail wing section (although I haven't actually built the tail wings the lights are there to be built around) and I've finally found a battery compartment solution that I'm half way happy about. Pictures to follow this evening hopefully as I'm at work right now. I've lined a piece of copper 22mm plumbing pipe connector joint with styrene and wired in some battery contacts that I stole out of a battery operated led chain. The plan for tonight is more photos posted then button up the battery compartments and fit them into the superstructure. I'm utilising some 500ml coke bottle lids and caps to secure the battery compartments into the rear of the engine sections as I need them to be replaceable. Hopefully I can get the electric motors for the jet fans mounted tonight as well. And tomorrow I shall be gaming with some friends.

Ohhh a quick question for those of you keeping up to date with my build. I have five of the Kromlech zephyr missil launchers and i was considering mounting a couple of forge world aircraft punisher cannons ( http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Images/Product/DefaultFW/xlarge/punishercannons.jpg ) on the nose of the plane what do you guys think? I am planning on placing a couple of swiveling gun mounts on each wing kinda like the one on the world war 2 english bomber so a little space for a person surrounded by guns??? (http://www.acesofww2.com/Canada/canadian_ags.html ) like this but mounted to the surface of the wing what do you guys think?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
here's the copper tubes soldered into the brass tube that will hold the wing onto the main fusalage, the solder isn't pretty but it holds a current Ohhhh yeah I'm using the brass rod to run electricity to the lights instead of running wires and so far in my experiments it seems to work fine.

here's a shot with the complete structure and some of the wings done, the underside which you can't see is not finished so I could solder the wires to the rods and stuff like that.

here's a close up of the bulb wired onto the skeleton, I would have prefered to use copper tube but I couldn't find any in a useable size.

there's three bulbs in the bomb bay but without a skin they're really hard to see. as you can see they're also soldered straight to the structure.

This is looking good so far and looks looks a cool design leading to my question, Would you allow WarMill to produce the parts for others? I would like to have them make me a set of parts but since it is your design I figured I should ask you first.

actualy yes I would love others to use the pattern, After putting mine together so far I have a couple of idea's that might improve the design. or you can ask them for it as is.

well yeah it really does however I would have prefered to use copper tube/rod to carry the current rather than bronze. I just couldn't find any copper tube/rod that matched the holes I had drawn and cut.
