Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Hey folks!

Having been catapulted back into the #1 ranked position, I wanted to take this opportunity to shamelessly soapbox the rigorous daily routines that all the elite gamers engage in. In my last article and routine outline, I talked about unit flash cards, drills, META-honing, internet searches, multi-table simultaneous gaming…

In this article, I wanted to explain the true secret behind a successful gamer: I call it the “Futuristic Action Gaming Simulation.” The key to success with any unit on the tabletop is to truly understand what it is like to BE that unit. How can you truly understand the potency of a Space Marine if you’ve never stood in the shoes of a genetically engineered super-human with massive weaponry? How can you truly understand the terror that a Dark Eldar wych can inspire if you’ve never stripped almost naked and tortured someone to death? Or of a chaos marine if you’ve never mutilated yourself and engaged in every excess imaginable?

"Hey everybody....look I'm ranked #1. Here lemme post some sillyness to stealth that fact in and brag to everyone!"

Yippee! So you've done well at tournaments, failing or not attending the really BIG ones, but since you've got enough disposable cash to hit tons of tournaments you're ranked #1.

Congrats, you're a legend in your own mind.

Personal attacks are against DakkaDakka rules. Please desist in making personal attacks to avoid suspension of your account.

Play nice now, this is the internetz!

What *are* the really big ones? I hit Nova and WargamesCon...missed Adepticon because I was in the middle of moving and a new career. I don't know of anything bigger. Those two are two of the three tournaments counting towards my ranking score. And I chose them because of their size and attendance. Please - fill me in! I like big events.

Well...the first thing that even I noticed was that the first part sounded a little like a shameless plug....I can sort of see where that reply came from. Personally, I wouldn't bring facts like that up in a post unless it was REALLY on topic.

...you sort of invite those sort of responses.

He did have sort of a point though....some of the biggest spotlighted or largest tournaments are Nova, Wargamescon, and Adepticon...none of which you've succeeded at this year, attending or not. Correct Dash? Not rubbing your nose it it, just asking....

Welcome back, Dash. I've always enjoyed reading your guides and reports. Glad to see you're still churning out fun, instructive articles!

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

Welcome back Dash, I was wondering why the army list forum contained so few of your posts these days.

It's a very useful guide you have written, and I think it will help us all in appreciating the roles of our units on the battlefield, however, no matter how much I tell her it will improve my tactical performance on games night, my GF still won't put on the purple oven gloves and leather...

Don't make acronyms out of my battle simulation then. And since you think that's the joke, you didn't get the joke....which is unsurprising.

Please note that I only encourage the actual works if you're incredibly wealthy. Otherwise a simulation would be sufficient. IE, if you need to borrow a jump pack and chainsaw...as opposed to having your own jump pack in one of your secret lairs, then I would encourage you to engage in simulation.

If there are any out there who *do* fall into the fabulously rich category, I'd love for you to speak out from online anonymity and talk about some of your experiences in experiencing 40k.

There's a difference between getting it and thinking it's funny.

Perhaps it would have been, if not for your unfortunate choice of the name of the simulation in the piece. Either way, enjoy your thread. /unsubscribed

When playing as an army,I use tactics in the fluff to make my strategies.Like Tyranids use a connon fodder of Termagants to waste enemy ammo.I use a big brood of 30 to draw fire and prevent them shooting up warriors and MCs.Is this what you mean Dash?
