As the person that painted those I would say that marble is a very difficult effect to achieve with out an airbrush.

Simplest method is to lay down your base color, switch to your accent color, then sponge on a mottled pattern and brush-paint some veins. Color selection depends entirely on what you want the thing to look like. Black and white is hard to make convincing without resorting to glazing mediums and layers of surface effects, but I've seen a very nice green done with the above method.

I must say, though, hand-painting a marble effect isn't all that difficult - getting it to look decent... that's the tricky part.

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

Well that looks fairly easy. I would guess a base-coat of an off white, then highlight the edges in white, then paint the veins in a color slightly darker than your base-coat. YOu could also add veins of lighter color to give some variety as well.

Our very own littleboyblues did an awesome tutorial on freehanding that included a fantastically detailed old marble effect for his frescoes:

Believe it or not but you can actually get marble paint! The idea is you add a few drops of it into water give it a stir and then dip the model in it. I've been tempted to try it on a chaos tank, gold marble on say a Black Legion Land Raider would look really good. The only place I know that sells them is a company in London called Hobbys. The paint manufacturer is called Waco.
