Hey guys, I'm new to the forums. Thought I would introduce myself real quick/my history with 40k.
Back in highschool around 01 I begun to collect some 40k miniatures, starting out with painting basic eldar and space marine models. Slowly I accumulated a Chaos Space Marine Khorne Dedicated army, after a while I sold all my miniatures-needed money at the time.
Now after several years later and graduating college my interest in 40k has been rekindled, I'm really interested in modeling, painting techniques, and conversion pieces/army's.
I'm a little unsure what the best way to get back into 40k is---I posted in the 40K Army list forum for a little help, but maybe someone has a suggestion in this area?
I've looked at the Assault on Black reach box set and think its a good deal, and I can get my painting skills back up to par for whatever army I do choose to play semi competitively/casually.
Thx for any advice/etc. etc.!

AoBR is a good pick if you want to start out a marine or ork army. Pick up some more models that you like the look of and paint them up.
There is a load of good stuff here on this forum hope you enjoy yourself.

Hey
Welcome to Dakka!
As Fett said, if you're interested in Marines (any flavour) or Orks then you cant really go wrong with AoBR. If not then the best bet is to just pick up the codex and either a couple of troops or their battleforce (some are better than others).

Hey!
AoBR is a good deal just don't use it for non-vanilla marines. If you don't know what they are and to be honest I didn't when I first started, they are just any chapter in the Space Marine codex.

Thx for the welcomes!
I think I may go grey knights with adpatus mechanicus mixed in. I really like ecclesiary (sp?) models, and ad-mech related.
However I also really like demons, and may go thousand sons with pink/blue horrors (I really like the models).
I'll just be casually gaming with some semi-competitive play, I think the AoBR is a good place for me to start seeing how my painting ability will need to get back up to par--the orcs/space marines can give me a good practice run in assembley and painting before I get started on my real army.
I'll mostly be playing at home with friends/gf, and maybe at my local GW store. I want to also get into terrain making, any good sites that have great tutorials for custom terrain? I was thinking modular/tiled.
